Therabox June 2017 Box

The Therabox theme for June is “Sunny Days” and the Happiness Activity is a 30 Day Happiness Challenge. The brochure says “this 30-day challenge combines positive psychology, mindfulness, & neuroscience techniques to rewire your brain for more happy!”

Therabox also includes a list of all items included in the box which I always find helpful.

30 Day Happiness Challenge Calendar – Value $5.99

Therabox sent both a card calendar and a card insert describing the various happiness activities for the month. Subscribers can post their pictures on Instagram with #theraboxchallenge. Activities include things such as going a whole day without complaints, watching the sunrise at dawn, taking a bubble bath, visiting a local place you’ve never been, and trying visualization techniques. I really love this month’s activity as it incorporates the social aspect (the Therabox crew is doing it too), a start date (July 1) and multiple ways to work toward behavior changes. Plus, consistency is the key! If subscribers only do half a month, they're bound to feel better.

3W Clinic Intensive Sunblock Face Cream – Value $19.99

I like getting sunblock and other beauty products in my boxes. This Korean product is a double duty cream that doubles as a makeup base. While I like receiving these types of products, I’d really prefer to have something without parabens.

Organic Sunflower Sugar Scrub – Value $15.00

This sugar scrub smells lovely and contains real chrysanthemum flower buds. I love scrubs so this is a great product for me. Although it was well wrapped, the oil from this scrub still leaked into the box.

Crafty Closets Rustic Wood Sign – Value $10.99

This is a really cute sign and although it isn’t my style, my sister will love it. This is a different and nice addition to the box.

All Natural Strawberry Lip Balm – Value $5.99

This is a bonus item that all new orders receive when they use the code BONUS at checkout. I love this balm for summer with its berry scent!

Verdict: Therabox is such a cute idea! Plus, the box is usually well curated to the monthly theme and well packaged. Several items in this box inspire a feeling of relaxation and calmness when used which is on point with the box mission and the other items work well with the theme. Mr. B’s Necessities make a common appearance but the brand provides high-quality products so I’m happy to receive them.

I think this would be a great box for someone who is sick, sad or just needs a little pick me up. I’m certainly going to keep this box in mind the next time I need to send loved ones a little something.

As for the value, there is about $74.91 (or $80.90 with the bonus lip balm) worth of products for $34.95 (plus $4.99 shipping) which is really good for a box of this kind.

I think this would be a great box if it were geared towards pre-teens, but for an adult seeking to make positive changes in their life, it’s almost insulting.

Thanks for doing this review for us Shawn! I’m hoping to see this box improve because I love the concept. While some of the ideas on the calendar seemed a little “cute,” it is true that most of those things do contribute to long term wellness. Maybe more focused themes each month would be helpful.
Ideas: a nice journal and pen with prompts, notecards/stationery and an assignment to reconnect/express gratitude/ask forgiveness, a small project (like planting seeds in a small pot) with all supplies included, a book and accompanying workbook (Drs Cloud and Townsend are excellent authors among others), a music therapy CD (or download), a sleep routine and tools (bubble bath, melatonin, pillow spray, gratitude list, etc).
Excited to see next month’s review and the direction this takes!

Spot on Hillary! I really love the concept of this box and think the first 2 boxes were a little closer to the mark than this June box. Having worked in mental health for almost 20 years, I can think of so many other things that would be a little more appropriate for a “therapy box”. Your suggestions were fantastic!
Although the items in the box are not, in and of themselves, bad things to receive, I am like you. Perhaps a little more focus in the curation of the box would make it an awesome box!
That being said, I am really looking forward to seeing the next couple of boxes.

Thank you Christine!! 🙂

I actually like the contents of this box. Sunscreen for outdoor walks in nature for reflection, and the daily challenges or self care activities look neat. It seems like a pick me up and nourish and take care of yourself box.

I find it incredibly hard to believe that this box is curated by practicing therapists. If it is, they must not be very good therapists! This is lazy at best, offensive at worst. A 30 days of happiness challenge? And some candles and lip balm… how uninspired. These items seriously missed the mark for the kind of box they are attempting to make. Seems more like an “online misconceptions about what self care is” box… easy pass!

If I paid $34.95 for this box I would expect more, much more. What kind of therapist tells someone to be happy? What kind of therapist tells someone what to do? Therapy is painful. It isn’t a bunch of banal platitudes in a pretty little pink calendar. It isn’t second rate sunscreen and an ugly sign telling you what you are doing now essentially isn’t good enough. If this box was marketed as a feel good spiritual box then maybe it would work for some. As a therapy box I find it is kind of offensive. Maybe I should just get over it.

I completely agree. It seems the creators of this box really took the more trivial use of the word into account when curating the items. Nothing about this box has anything to do with therapy.

Would you be happier with a white noise machine and a $150 bill? It’s a cutsey, feel good box. What kind of therapy do you expect for $35?

Marilyn

I agree that it would be a nice box to send to someone who needs a little cheering up. The sign is one I need – “be humble” that definitely is an area I need to work on!

What a generic box! All it’s missing is a scarf and a little notebook!

Value is good. Items are okay. Yet when I think of a therapy box I think of different items and a better curation.

To many beauty items for a therapy box. The items in this box don’t match up to the name of this box. The items need to match the name of the box more so for me to like this box. The Korean sunscreen seems way off in this box. The sticky notes are fine for this type of box. The sign also seems off. If it said think happy or relax it would fit in better.

What I would like to see in this box is similar to what mindfulness box and yogisurprise has done and included relaxation and unique items in the box. Have the items flowing in a theme verses random items

The box is still new and can improve. Which I hope they do. Maybe they can speak to therapists and people going to therapy on what should be included and preplan each box prior to shipping. There is a lot of room for improvement for this box. It’s just a matter of improving while the box is still new.
