Play! by Sephora is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription. Each month they send you six samples, a PLAY! BOOK of tips and tricks, and a PLAY! PASS for in-store learning.

I used to work at Sephora so I naturally couldn’t resist this subscription!

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Every month they include all of the samples in a mini bag with a different design.

Each box comes with a Play! Pass, which is a card you can use at Sephora (in-store) to get 50 extra rewards points, and you can also get one-on-one tutorials and tips of products from a Sephora consultant.

I do have to mention, you can walk in and get shown any tips and even a “mini makeover” at the Beauty Studio (which is where a consultant will do a small demo on you like a certain eye look, how to do your brows, how to contour, matching you with a foundation, etc. and teach you what they’re doing) anytime – with or without a Play pass! So, if you don’t have this subscription (or can’t get off the waitlist), you can still go to your local Sephora and try out all the products featured, or any other products.

This month’s theme is “Beauty Staycation.”

On the very inside of the folded info sheet is thorough details and tips about each featured product. They always give helpful information and advice so I definitely recommend making sure you read these!

Briogeo Rosarco Milk Reparative Leave-in Conditioning Spray - 0.75 oz, Value $3.86

I always use a leave-in conditioner, so I was excited to try a new one (new to me, at least)! I exclusively use ones with spray nozzles because I am all about keeping product off my hands.  I really like this formula, which is fortified with coconut, rose, and argan oils. It sprayed on well, kept my hair soft, smooth, and protected! I also felt like my hair had a little extra texture once I was done blow-drying.

Caudalie Vine(active) Glow Activating Anti-Wrinkle Serum - 0.33 oz, Value $17.16

I’m always happy to try another Caudalie product because I love their brand. This serum is made to protect against pollutants and environmental factors that can be harsh on your skin. The formula is a lightweight, milky serum and it absorbed into my skin quickly. After using for a couple days, I do really like it! It preps my skin well for moisturizer and I know it’s delivering antioxidants and Vitamin C to my face.

Fresh Rose Face Mask - 0.5 oz, Value $12.50

This gel mask is made with rose petals, rosewater, green tea, and algae (one of my weirdly favorite ingredients in skincare products!). It definitely smells just like a rose!

Play! by Sephora July 2017 Beauty Subscription Box

I have dry skin and this mask did help my face feel instantly more moisturized and hydrated! I have enough here for a second (lighter) application, as well.

Bobbi Brown Eye Opening Mascara – 0.17 oz, Value $12.14

This mascara’s pigment is super black and intense. I love it! I also love the huge, fluffy brush but I know many people may be turned off by it, as well. I was able to get good, easy coverage and some increased length. With a clump-free coat or two, I was really happy with it!

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Color Splash Lipstick in Set Sail  0.035 oz, Value $6.13

This new product from Tarte is the winning product discovery for me this month! It’s a matte lipstick, but application was smooth and the formula is hydrating and comfortable. I also got a ton of wear out of this!

This color is gorgeous – it’s a dark nude. Very wearable, great to keep in your purse all the time.

Clean Reserve Sueded Oud Perfume Bonus Sample  - .05 fl oz

It’s great when I find a perfume I actually like as a sample! This one is really nice and lines up well with my taste. It’s sophisticated and woody/musky but still a little sweet and well-balanced.

Play! by Sephora July 2017 Beauty Subscription Box

I think everything comes together smoothly and well-balanced here. Some of the notes include Incense oil, birchwood, honeysuckle (YUM), jasmine, white magnolia, soft suede, patchouli, black amber, skin musk, and a few others. It has some sweetness but in a grown-up and subtle way.

Here I am wearing the Tarte Lipstick and the Bobbi Brown mascara. Note that this is what the lipstick looked like after drinking a Starbucks cold brew coffee and croissant! I love this color.

Verdict:  I loved my July Play! by Sephora box! I actually like everything in it, and found some new discoveries that work really well for me! The value of my box adds up to $51.79 which is fantastic for a $10 box, I think. I’m happy!

Why is it your “value” links never match? Example; Bobbi Brown mascara, says $12.13 but when you click link it says $30? It’s on just about EVERY review of yours – even when you just post. Why are you misleading your viewers? They are the same size too.

Hi Amy,

For all beauty samples we assign a value to, we base it on the size of the sample. So in the Bobbi Brown example, the mascara sample Haley received in this review is .17 ounce, and the link goes to the full-size version, which is .42 ounces. (The mascaras are not the same size, so the values are different.)

Hope that helps clarify!

Clear and accurate explanation:) With so many people following your site now, misunderstandings are bound to happen. I just wanted you to know I really appreciate the information you provide. Keep up the good work!

Janet

After debating for months I’ve cancelled. I didn’t dislike my box but the combination of seeing others get products I want to try while mine always seem less exciting… I’m also in the middle of a product inventory and… so many tiny little samples to use up!

Box twins! Oh lala, that lippie is pretty! I haven’t tried anything yet as I’ve had houseguests, but the BB mascara fluffy big brush is new to me.

Great box this month, and you look really pretty in this post Haley!

I have this box as well and can use everything except the lipstick. It’s a bit too light for my brown complexion. I will need to mix it with another darker color or use a lip liner. Other than that, very nice box for the money.

Twins! Same box..
Excited to get my other one

Thank you, Pandora! 😀

I have the same box and it did not disappoint. That lipstick is amazing. I was worried it would be lipstick soup since the boxes seem to take the scenic route getting here and it’s a million degrees here in Vegas. Happy to say that there was nothing to worry about! Glad to see you around , Haley. I enjoy your reviews.

Box twins! This is honestly the best Sephora box I’ve gotten in a looooong time. I was about to buy the full-size of the Tarte lipstick, in the same shade… until I saw the spoilers here and realized my number matched!

Debbie

Wow great box! I loved my 049 box too but this one looks awesome!

Loba

Love that lipstick shade on you!

Also wanted to note: I always enjoy reading your reviews and seeing how you applied the products. I never really learned beauty application and every time I see your reviews I am inspired to educate myself and try something new.

Haley did you have your baby yet? If so, boy or girl?

Hi, Kristin! This one is another boy, and he’s due in October 🙂

I was super happy with my box. After I got shipping notification, I canceled my sub, but when I saw spoilers, I decided to re-sub and continue with Sephora. This month was exceptionally good.

I am so torn. I feel like I should cancel this since there’s rarely a month where I’m really excited about my items. (except Junes box!) FOMO is hard! Lol. I keep telling myself to just cancel it, but haven’t been able to actually go click that button to do so!

Svetlana7e

I did canceled, but my sobriety lasted two days, on third day, I reactivated it.
