Papergang by Ohh Deer Stationery Subscription Box Review – June 2017

Papergang is a monthly stationery subscription box from quirky UK design team, Ohh Deer. Each month they partner with a different artist and have a theme to bring you paper goods and desk accessories.

(Can we talk about the packaging for a quick second here? MY WORD, it is STUNNING)

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

The Subscription Box: Papergang

The Cost: $14.07 USD (10.95 GBP) + shipping (discounts available for 3, 6, or 12 month prepaid subscriptions)

The Products: Each month you'll receive a box full of papery goodness. The product selection will vary, however, it will include the likes of Greeting Cards, Notebooks, Desk Accessories, and Art Prints.

Ships to: Worldwide

Keep Track of Your Subscriptions: Add this box to your subscription list or wishlist!

The info card is on smooth matte card stock and outlines all of the treasures you received this month. I'm loving the colors in this box: dark plums and warm greys.

Papergang has partnered with Tree Aid to make sure that for every 4 boxes they sell, one tree gets planted in the African Drylands, which helps with vital food and income.

Papergang Drew Patch - Value $0

The very first thing I saw when opening this box was Drew, the Papergang leader! This patch comes with your first box to commemorate you being part of the gang. I love the pencil crown!

Linen Notebook - Listed Value $16.74 USD

The first item is a gorgeous linen notebook designed by this month's artist (photographer), Susan Castillo. The purplish grey background and violet hued leaves conjure up more fall vibes than summer, but that doesn't mean I love it any less.

The cover has "Notes" in gold foil emblazoned on the soft linen.

The pages inside are lined and it has a ribbon bookmark to keep your spot.

Each page has a place to write the year, month, and day for easy journaling.

The leaf pattern continues on to the back of the notebook, also gold foiled with Ohh Deer's name.

Brass Ruler - Listed Value $12.86 USD

How did they know of my penchant for beautiful rulers? I have several rulers already, but not a beautiful brass one like this. The ruler measures at 6.5", including the hole at the end for easy hanging. The front has inches as well centimeters, stamped into it.

The back is a plain, and unstamped. This will look so posh sitting on my vintage desk.

Happy Birthday Card - Listed Value $3.23 USD

Here we have another lovely piece by photographer Susan Castillo, in the form of a birthday card. For those who have distinguished taste, you can use this to celebrate them from afar.

Riso Printed Calendar - Listed Value $0

No value was listed for this small one-page monthly calendar, so it looks to just be a little freebie. It features the leaf design carried throughout the other items this month and is perfect to pin up at your desk for quick reference.

Verdict: I'm really excited to discover Ohh Deer and Papergang because I simply adore stationery and office supplies! Even though this is only the first month, I get the feeling they are the perfect mix of fun and classy, which is kind of where I'm at in my life right now. Looking at their blog and shop, I see a large gamut of different designs and I'm drawn to most of them! Since the items seem mostly exclusive to Papergang, I went with the listed values for everything. Once I converted them to USD, it came to almost $33 for the three items that listed value, not counting the cool patch! The shipping to PA was $ 4.95 GBP (which google says is $6.46 USD), making the total cost of the box only $20.53. I'm really interested to see what future boxes hold!

What was your favorite Papergang item?

This box is amazing. I am just delving into stationary boxes and there are so many to choose from but I am liking this one.

Marne – where did you see that shipping cost listed? I’m a current subscriber, and this is what I pay:

shipping to US is £4.95. (about $6.38.) and the box is £10.95 ($14.12) so it’s $20.50 total.

HOWEVER – everyone please note, that even with the shipping cost from the U.K., the box is still a great value!

Hey Beth! I actually just checked the invoice, and you’re right, the shipping was 4.95 GBP which google says is $6.46 USD. Thanks for pointing that out! I’m going to update the review.

Hmm- I was shocked that the shipping was so cheap, but when I put in all of my address info, that’s the “estimated shipping cost” that it gave me. I appreciate you letting me know how much you actually end up paying! A little over $20 is certainly still a great deal for the great items!

As soon as you said UK, I sighed because I just knew shipping wouldn’t make it worth subbing. But I love stationary sub boxes (already subbing to three) and have been looking for one that is different. After falling in love with this box, I heard the magic words: “shipping was 2.81”. Sold!

Hey Jess! Did you end up ordering? How was the shipping cost for you, if so?

Jess

Yes, I did sub and shipping ended up being higher for me as well. But, I looked on the company’s website to see their other designs in past boxes. Even though it wasn’t a detailed breakdown like a trusty MSA review, they all looked pretty comparable in value to this box so I still subbed. Its still a really good shipping value considering it’s coming from the U.K.

Beth

@marne. Thanks for the review! So glad to see this wonderful sub reviewed. But one thing that you missed is the back of the package, which always features a cut and fold animal! The one for this month is a fox. Last mont’s was a bee.

I sub to Papergang and I cannot say enough good things about it, especially at that cost. I love their products, themes, and everything in the box seems well thought out, high quality, and even gift worthy. Lastly, I’ve communicated several times with their CS, requesting an older box and asking about shipping, and they have been super responsive and helpful. All in all, they’re fabulous, and I can’t imagine ever cancelling my sub!

How cute.

I subbed to 3 months to give them a try.

What a lovely sub. From the packaging to the products and definitely worth the price.

Great review!

I’ve been subbing since the first box and this continues to be my favorite box. I have mentioned it in the forums as well and am so happy to see it reviewed! I’ve cancelled many boxes over the last year, and this is the only one I’ve consistently kept. 😍 So happy to see MSA reviewing it! The value is always there and the monthly themes/artist takeovers are so wonderful.

I agree with Zo. Please, more reviews. The taste here seems not adult…

Tat

…sheesh. More adult…

I have been subscribing to this box since last year and I love it so much. I have entirely too much stationary right now, but I can’t help myself. I enjoyed your review and am happy you seem to like this subscription.

Marne

Jessica, same about having “too much stationery” but I figure it’s something I can use so I don’t mind! Love this box!

I’ve been looking for a new stationery sub. I think this might be it. Great price point. Would love to see more reviews.
