Ipsy’s theme for this month is ‘Over Easy’. Loni, the editorial director of Ipsy, explained in their app that she has been a workaholic lately and she thought that everyone should slow down and take care of themselves more. I couldn’t agree more with that!

I know that not everyone will like this character bag, especially when that character is a lazy egg, but I love it! I find this mascot weirdly cute (or kimo-kawaii – in Japanese). Plus, how adorable that the zipper has a word ‘meh…’ on it and shaped like a speech bubble!

Now, onto the items!

Ciate London –  Wonderwand Gel-Kohl Hybrid Liner in Black – 2.8 oz. Value $10

This eyeliner is double ended, with a pencil liner on one side and a blending brush on the other, so that you can create both sharp or smudge looks. This creamy and pigmented liner doesn’t dry down instantly, so it’ll give you some time to work with, however, once it dries down, it won’t smudge at all. I had it on for about 6 hours today and it was on point until I removed it.

Seraphine Botanicals – Lychee + Gold FULL SIZE! Value $14

Another full sized item? Yes, please! Seraphine Botanicals is a new brand for me, but I think the color of this blush is GORGEOUS! This blush is made with 99% natural ingredients, Vegan, Gluten-free, Cruelty-free, and formulated without mineral oil, Parabens, or Phthalates. I love that their box is printed with soy ink, too!

This blush is a combination of peach pigment and gold shimmer, aka – perfection. The shimmer is fine and looks natural when applied on skin, and it lasts a long time, too. It’s definitely my favorite item from this month’s Ipsy bag.

Winky Lux – Double Matte Whip in Angel Food, 1.8 ml Value $6

This whipped liquid lipstick is Cruelty-free, Paraben-free, and Gluten-free, plus it’s enriched with avocado oil and vanilla. Even though it dried down matte, my lips didn’t feel dry at all. The lasting power is also impressive, pretty much 6+ hours even after dinner. Did I mention that it also smells soooo good?

OFRA Cosmetics – Eyeshadow in Gold Rush, 2g Value $7.50

Although this eyeshadow is only about half the size of OFRA’s full-size ones, it’s still as big as normal Colourpop and Makeupgeek eyeshadows. The pigment is intense, and I love this warm golden brown shade! It went on well even without primer and lasted a long time on my oily lid. Nothing to complain about!

Hempz – Ultra Moisturizing Herbal Lip Balm FULL SIZE! Value $9

Yay for another full-sized item in my glam bag! This balm is a blend of hemp seed oil, shea butter, and avocado oil. It has a light minty-citrus scent. The product worked well and didn’t leave my lips feeling sticky afterward, but there’s nothing really special about it.

Here is the look I completed using everything from my July Ipsy bag. I can only show you half of my face because I have a stye on my other eye at the moment and I didn’t want to put anything on it. That eyeshadow is pigmented though!

Verdict: This box has a value of about $47, which is on the higher side of Ipsy! I received 3 full-size products in this bag, and I love that I can create a full-face makeup look out of these items! Every shade I received worked with my skintone and they all go well together, too. Great job, Ipsy!

What do you think of the July Ipsy Glam Bag? What items did you get in your bag?

Jira discovered the world of subscription boxes when she first moved to New York in 2017 (subscription box is not a thing in her home country!). Thanks to MSA, she’s now subscribed to almost 10 beauty and lifestyle boxes, with FabFitFun, BeautyFIX, and Clean Beauty Box as her favorites. Ps. Her boyfriend thinks that she’s only subscribed to Ipsy, so please keep this a secret between us 😉

  1. I got this same bag and I love it. I actually think my favorite item is the hempz lip balm though. It is super moisturizing and lasts for a really long time on my lips!

  2. I was not excited for the Gudetama bag at all, but i like it soooo much more in person. The bag is shimmery and then Gudetama is matte, and it is so cute. Love.

    • Same here. I think maybe the overall quality of Ipsy bags is improving? I love that the bag is lined and the outer fabric and zipper are sturdy and don’t feel cheap.

      • I totally agree. I wasn’t necessarily loving the bag this month but, when I got it in person I really loved it. The quality was nice and I liked how his behind was on the back of the bag. The zipper was sturdy and the matching yellow liner was great.

  3. I’m in love with Seraphine Botanicals! I’m getting that blush and I’m so happy! I’m not a huge fan of the bag design, but the items this month are pretty much a hit for me 🙂

  4. I saw on instagram, some people received gold bags instead of the usual pink. Anyone know why?

    • I got a gold bag. It was the usual Ipsy bubble mailer, just gold.

    • I got a gold bag also, I figured it was because of the theme?

  5. We are bag twins!!! xx

  6. We’re bag twins!!

Any insight on what the Winky Lux smells like? Scented lip products drive me crazy, so I’m trying to figure out whether or not to swap before I open it!

  7. Enjoyed your review Jira, especially your experience with the Ofra eyeshadow, which is probably the only item in my bag I could do without.

  8. I got my bag today and its different. I got:

Rainforest of the sea deep dive (I requested it)
    Iby crease brush
    Chella Taupe eyebrow cream
    Seraphine blush in Ginger+Gold
Trestique mini concealer stick in porcelain

I actually love everything. This might be my favorite bag ever (I love Gudetama!) And I love all my products. 🤗

I looked at all of July’s product and there are so many products I want.

  9. Hey, we’re bag twins! I’m so happy to get my bag. I always love your reviews!

  10. I like the character bag, too, but I’m a kawaii junkie, so. I’m having my second childhood.

I am looking forward to my bag, even though I’m not super excited about all the products (go go Tarte cleanser though!!!), and I wish it would ship NOW. :p

  11. When they released the spoilers for July it was looking like such a good month, but that was no the case.
In my first bag I’m getting
    1. Jersey Shore Cosmetics Mandarin Green Orange & Ginger Mongongo Lip Conditioner
I have a balm from them that I adore. I just hope the ginger isn’t too strong. I hate that smell.
    2. Londontown USA Lakur Enhanced Colour by Londontown-I opted out of nail polish. Got one in may even though I opted out forever in April, emailed them again and I’m getting another one.
    3. OFRA Cosmetics ‘Gold Rush’ or ‘Victory’ Eyeshadow
I love Ofra but these colors just are not fun
    4. tarte cosmetics Rainforest of the Sea™ deep dive cleansing gel
YES! This is the item i requested. I adore Tarte.
    5. Seraphine Botanicals Lychee + Gold
This has the potential to be cute.

    In bag two I’m getting
    1. Beaute Basics TRAVEL FACE BLENDER in LIGHT PINK-I love by beauty blender but i love trying alternatives
    2. COUGAR Beauty Products 24 Hour Liquid Lipstick in Mulberry
I like liquid lipstick, but not this color. I’ve tried colors like it before and never have I once reached for them
    3. Ciaté London Wonderwand Gel-Kohl Hybrid Liner in Black
Wow another black liner to add to my mound of black liners
4.TONYMOLY I’m Real Sheet Masks in Green Tea and Lotus
    The other item I requested.
    5. OFRA Cosmetics ‘Gold Rush’ or ‘Victory’ Eyeshadow
Hopefully they’re different colors, but still not fun colors.
I total theres five items that I’ll keep the rest will go up for swaps or be given away
    I can’t say that 5/10 is good

  12. I think my favorite thing this month is the bag itself! And I actually like all the items inside, but I usually am at least open to them. The only thing that’s not a total hit for me is the Ofra eyeshadow, and that’s just because I find it easier to keep track of stuff that comes in its own package, not that I have to stick in a random palette with other stuff. Makes it hard to know what brand and shade it is if I want to repurchase later.

  13. Wow, I just realized my Ipsy bag retail value this month is over $100!

    I am getting:
    – 111SKIN Space Defence Bright Eye Gel
    – tarte cosmetics Rainforest of the Sea™ deep dive cleansing gel
    – OFRA Cosmetics ‘Gold Rush’ or ‘Victory’ Eyeshadow
    – So Susan Blender Brush
    – Trifle Cosmetics Raspberry Ripple – Ombré Radiance Blush Palette

Will swap most of it, though. 🙂

    • Where on the website do you see what you are getting? thanks,

      • When you log into your account on the Ipsy website, the contents of your bag is on the bottom of the page (under “glam bag”).

You can also see it in the Ipsy app.

  14. Almost bag twins! I’m getting the TonyMoly sheet masks instead of the Winky Lux lippie.

  15. Nice bag!! I would have loved this one!!

  16. I’m getting the same eye shadow, a brush, the tarte cleanser, a browgal pencil and a hand cream — pretty happy!

  17. great review on a great bag! I genuinely wish I would get the “good” bags more often from Ipsy… This month I’m getting ponds cold cream and I’m quite discouraged. My Ipsy bags never end up being awesome like the review ones. Ah well.

    • This is the first good one I have recieved. I got the Tarte bronzer, Ofra shadow, Avene toner, Cougar lipgloss and the iby brush.

  18. Great review! Thank you for teaching us about “kimo-kawaii,” which sounds like the perfect way to describe Gudetama. Hope your eye is feeling better soon.

    • Thank you, Jessica. You’re so sweet!

  19. Such a great bag! Love that lippie color and blush altho I can’t wear blush.

  20. Kira I know you are a newer reviewerbut I honestly think that your reviews are among my favorite for sure. They’re honest and straight to the point and I love the way that you swatch things that not everyone thinks to swatch.
Keep doing what you do girl and I will keep reading all your reviews. You rock Jira💜💜💜

    • Hi Jenn, thank you so much for your kind feedback! This totally make my day! 😍 You’re an angel!

  21. I like seeing your full face look! It’s a nice reminder how well some of these items go well together. I get frustrated by things like subs sending the same black eyeliner & neutral gold shadow, but you really did get a complete look out of your bag this month.

I’m getting the Winky Lux lip, too, & I’m really excited about it. It’s one of the spoilers I was hoping for!

  22. Great review! Thank you for modeling your makeup items!

  23. Cute bag.

    • Agree! I would have loved this one!!

  24. It should be a rule, that you do not give ugliness to the reviewers! Jira, youre awesome! Thank you for the review, I enjoyed it. Hope to see more from you!

  25. I did not get any of those. I would have liked one of the blushes . I am getting an illuminating brush I hate brushes, liquid black eyeliner another fail, rose lip treatment might be OK, better than sex mascara which I wanted and Nomad highlighter which I requested but wish I didn’t because its tiny.

    • You can email them that you don’t wanna get brushes for a while!!!

      • I ended up emailing them after I saw my brush so I could opt out of brushes and skin care. But agent told me you can not opt out of all skin care only a few so I opted out of of cleansers and moisturizers. She emailed me back and said OK she would opt me out of that but she said nothing about brushes! I am just going to give the brush a low rating and take my chances.

        • They told me before that you can only opt out of two categories of products, so if you chose cleansers and moisturizers, they wouldn’t include brushes on top of that.

          • I am opted out of nail polish, bronzer, contour, eye-shadow. You can opt out of 3

          • You listed four. 🙂

Anyway, I am just repeating what the rep said to me. Maybe it depends on who you get.

          • The agent asked me what skin products I would least like to get in since she could not opt me out of all it was suppose to be same category. She told me I could only opt out of 2 she was pretty firm on that.

          • Bronzer/contour is one. I have been opted out of 3 for 6 months

        • you can also go into your profile, and make sure the brush option isnt checked as well….never hurts to try

    • It used to be three categories, they changed it to two recently.

      • They didn’t change it for me. I am opted out of 3 items. Have been for months.

  26. This is a great review, but I am glad that I am not getting that blush and the Winky Lux because orange would not look good on me…

  27. We only have the eyeshadow in common but my only “gripe” is I wish it came in some plastic packaging or something more durable. I don’t yet have a magnetic palette so this will be damaged in a week if I throw it in a drawer. Ah well, I’m starting BoxyCharm this month, so I should probably hit up ShopMissA and pick up a few.

    • ColourPop recently debuted some reasonably priced magnetic palettes, too.

  28. That eyeshadow looks lovely on you!

  29. I thought that bag was so cute I resubscribed. I am loving the blush, hope it’s in my bag. Nice review and I liked that you modeled all your goodies😀

  30. Jira – please note: Seraphine Botanicals boasting that their packaging is made with soy ink is like Starbucks boasting that their drinks are made with coffee. Every newspaper and magazine you see wherever you go is printed with soy ink. Soy ink is the ink that’s used in all printed materials in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand – you get the picture.

As far as Loni saying that she picked the theme because she has been a workaholic “lately” – ipsy themes and bags are designed and decided on many months in advance. That is a necessity because ipsy has more than a million subscribers.

Always qualify claims with facts – don’t just repeat them blindly.

    • Dea,

Metaphorically speaking, you are not invited to my dinner party.

      • Lol

      • Ramona:

        Virtual high-five! ✋🏼💯

(I’m all for verifying claims with facts when necessary…but there’s a fine line between critical thinking and being pedantic…)

        • Let alone “instructing” someone like that: “Always qualify claims with facts – don’t just repeat them blindly,” – maybe they don’t feel like it?..

      • Oh hahaha Passive Agression at it best! Love ♡

      • That’s one dinner party I hope I get an invite to. 🙂

    • Hi Dea,

Thank you so much for your feedback. My explanation here may sound like an excuse, but I just moved to the U.S. this year and I’ve just never heard of soy ink from where I came from (South East Asia) yet, so I was honestly impressed. However, after learning that, I’ll be more careful from now on.

Thank you again for giving us feedback 🙂

      • I like Asian style. Blunt, to the point and informed. Nothing g wrong with that. Welcome to America!

      • I’ve lived here all my life and I’ve never heard of it, either! Not ashamed! Lol

      • Born and raised here and I get excited when I see something say it’s been printed in soy ink…
Nice review! And hope your eye heals asap

      • Jira, you posted a great review and response on this. I’m certain very few Americans (or people in general) even know about these different types of ink and their use in packaging globally. And you definitely knew more than all of us on that egg character (though I wish you had shown the character’s butt on the back of the Ipsy bag . . . I found it so weirdly cute or “kino-kawaii” as you put it).

Thank you for your thorough review and both hand and face swatches of the products themselves for our benefit. 🙂

    • Lately doesn’t have to just mean in the last month! Lately could also mean several or many months! Your comment is ridiculous! Give me a break! Jira’s review was great and very in depth. She repeated what Loni said about the bag. Why wouldn’t she? Just because you think lately means a few days? Jira didnt make any claims that need to be qualified! Also just so you know there are many companies that do not use soy ink on their packaging! You come off extremely arrogant and condescending. Maybe you should become a reviewer since you think you know everything.

      • 😂

    • Dea,

Chill, girl! We are not impressed.

    • Dea – “lately” can encompass a fairly large amount of time. It doesn’t have to mean, “Oh my gosh, I decided this a week ago!” How do you know ‘lately’ didn’t mean, ‘for the past 6 months,’ and therefore came up with the theme and later figured it would be a great summer theme?

Perhaps you should work more on your positivity skills than your so-called fact verification skills. It would do you a world of good.

    • I think “Dea” is a little perturbed that she wasn’t picked to be a reviewer. Awww… I’m so sorry, my dear. **hugzzz and hands over a hammer to help you remove 2×4 from out of your bum**

      • That’s the way I read it too… Hmmmm.

    • i get you, girl…sorry for all the negativity from a few…😨

      • You mean because that comment was so positive? It was seriously out of line.

        • why? because you didn’t like the “tone”? dea’s comment was 100% factual…and, i’ll wager jira isn’t as stressed about it as all of you…

this is a public comment line on the internet–ffs, half of us are prolly dudes!

calm down–getting upset over a stranger’s comment to a professional writer is rather childish–she doesn’t need us “rescuing” her…

          ps–i’m done with this nonsense

  31. Nice review-Thanks!

I’m getting the same blush, lippie and eye liner- and also the Caudalie Moisturizer and the Tarte Rain Forest Gel Cleanser.

I’m pleased with what I’m getting- LOVE Ipsy!

    • What? Bag twins! haha….

    • That’s a good bag!

    • Aw man – lucky! Those were the two things that I wanted the most (and didn’t get. 🙁 )

  32. Are you sure the Ciate liner is full sized? Mine is only 0.02 oz, which is half of the full size (0.04 oz). Half-sized is still pretty nice, though.

    • You are totally right! My biggest apology for that. I saw that my pencil is 0.028 oz and I didn’t see the size mentioned on Ciate website, so I assumed it was full-sized! I will let the team know ASAP

      • No worries, and thanks for the great review!

  33. Love it!!😍

  34. Love your review! I am also getting the same blush, eyeliner and eyeshadow! The colors look good on you 🙂

    • Thank you L, I’m glad you like this review, and hopefully, you’ll love your Ipsy bag too!

  35. …and, this is why i cancelled ipsy–i guarantee, i wouldn’t have gotten the $55 value bag, & i would’ve been pissed, again…

no more of these “some get good stuff, but most get cheap retreads” bags for me…tired of being the poor, red-headed stepchild…

    • Hi Tammy, I’m sorry your experience with Ipsy is not satisfying. My bag value also varied from 25 – 50 each month too. For me, personally, I find that not requesting any item in advance result in higher value bag so I don’t think I’ll be requesting anything unless I really want it!

      • Jira,

That’s very helpful and timely advice. I was trying to decide whether or not to ask Ipsy for one of the August requestables, even though I’m not especially excited about any of them. (Mascara=good. Mask=good. But what other options are there?) Maybe I will experiment and just leave it to Ipsy next month and see how that turns out.

      • …i bet that is a really good tip–i’m going to apply that bit of knowledge to birchbox, and either allow a full-on surprise box, or go total curated…no more picking one sample out!

(i never did any special requests for ipsy, whatsoever, though!)

    • That is my biggest gripe with Ipsy as well. One month, a different blogger’s bag was worth $100 while mine didn’t reach $20. I wish that Ipsy tried to keep that values in the same vicinity.

      • Didn’t reach $20? What did you get?

        • I don’t even remember now. It was last year, and even though it annoys me, I still subscribe. 🙂

      • frankly, i felt like because my profile says i’m 56, the packers just throw any ol’ thing in there…

        i traded ipsy for sephora–much happier…

        • Good grief. It’s not some kind of ageism conspiracy. It’s a $10 bag. Change your profile info if you think they are “discriminating” against you because it couldn’t possibly be that you don’t fit their target demographic – which is entirely true and certainly nothing nefarious going on. 🙄

  36. Great review. All of your items seem to coordinate together so well. Add mascara and you have a full look

    • Hi, Brooke 🙂 glad you like the review. I hope you enjoy your bag, too!

  37. Thanks for a marvelous review, Jira! I love it when reviewers show products in use. I knew the word kawaii, being a fan, but not kimo-kawaii, so thank you for that too. I’ve been slowly warming up to Gudetama, and the “meh” zipper pull totally makes the bag! I’m also getting the blush and the liquid lipstick and I think both will be too peachy for me, but that’s what swaps are for.

    • Hi, KimberlyB, I’m glad you like the review and the bag 🙂 I enjoy Ipsy because I always find something new for me in every bag. I wouldn’t pick this lip color for myself but I’m glad Ipsy picked that for me!

  38. Hi Jira, thanks for the review and do modelling the products, thats a big help. I have re- occurring problems with styes too so I feel your pain! I rarely wear eye makeup, so it hardly seems fair!

    • Hi, Michelle, glad you like the review 🙂 I haven’t had styes in years, so it feels really weird. Thank you so much for your kindness and understanding!

  39. What a great review, those products all look fantastic!

    • Thank you Idzie! I’m glad you liked it!
