We have the full spoilers for the July 2017 Emma & Chloe box!

The featured designer this month is Nilai Comar.

Nilai Comar was born in Turkey and gave life to her own jewelry brand 10 years ago. Nilai’s jewelry is heavily influenced by her eastern background, having spent 18 years visiting the great bazaar of Istanbul. Nilaï is a chic, bohemian brand, working with 24K fine gold plated jewelry, natural stones, and lucky symbols.

More from Emma & Chloe:

How was Nilai born?
The brand Nilaï was born 10 years ago from a piece of jewelry made by my eldest daughter Victoria. The first collection in a long series, I had a craze for kids jewelry before quickly progressing onto jewelry for moms. I reflected for a long time on the name that I wanted to give to my brand, it was very symbolic to me. I decided to use my Turkish first name, Nilai, which means the ‘The Moon of the Nile’.

You use a lot of colour in your collections, how do you select them?
We have two collections that follow the seasons of fashion. For the summer period, it is an explosion of color with turquoise hues against coral to create contrast. In the winter, we get a little mellow, we use deeper blues such as Lapis or Carnelian blue. Three seasons ago, we started working with semi-precious stones. These offer more neutral colors such as the Labradorite crystal, a sober and subtle stone which I particularly like for its protective properties.

What material do you prefer to work with and why?
I prefer to work with semi precious stones and yellow gold. It’s my eastern influence that comes out. I am a gold addict when it comes to the finishes of my creations.

How would you identify your brand and style?
Bohemian and rock influences intertwine themselves in the mix of my jewelry. The rock side, as I see it, is the accumulation of pieces. The boho style is the play on colors and the structure of jewelry pieces to create one’s own look. At Nilaï, we collect jewelry to our hearts content! I also like products that are two in one or three in one for example, when one changes a necklace into a cuff by turning it several times around the wrist.

You are our designer of July, what does your jewelry mean to you?
This jewelry represents summer. We don't always wear the same jewelry every day, I personally like to wear lots of color. We create our own collections according to the seasons and July’s piece will be my favourite for the summer.

What colour swimsuit would you recommend wearing with the piece of July?
Definitely turquoise or coral.

Do we know the approx value of this piece?

They value their pieces from $100-$250. I believe. I love the designs, but the quality is awful. I wouldn’t pay more than $10.00. Sorry. Love the concept / designs. All my rings tarnished.. threw them away. Focus more on the jewelry quality than the magazine… just sayin…

I have just cancelled my subscription after joining last year. Whilst for the most part the designs are very cool, the quality of the pieces are very poor. All my rings tarnished and turned my fingers green and I only ever received one pair of earrings during my entire subscription. I love the concept and the magazine is a nice touch, but I feel they need to focus on providing better quality pieces. I understand this is only costume jewelery, but I have been so disappointed over the last few months….Definitely not worth the money in my opinion.

Perfect for summer! Love cowrie shells. Hahaha y’all! Not an alien. Claws. A football. A vulva -though you’re not alone, which is why they’re often used as a fertility symbol. Or a sperm. It’s a cowrie shell y’all. Summer iconographic. Will look great with the sautoir from June! Go to Nilaï’s site, and you will see that this piece is actually quite delicate. These macro shots are deceptive in this aspect.

Always a nice curation from Emma&Chloe. It’s so nice that they consider how the piece will reflect not only the current season’s trends, but how well the pieces from former months will go together. Customer service is beyond topnotch. Excellent sub!

This fact doesn’t change the fact that this pieces look disgusting for me. I’m so glad I’m not a subscriber right now.

all I see when I see this is either a football, the alien from the cover for the movie Alien, or a ladies private part…….

Cara

Haha I saw ladies parts too the first time I looked. Then I swore it was a plated version of those seashell necklaces I had 10 years back

Jodi

and maybe a sperm…. lol

Lol, it’s not claws, it’s shells. I believe they’re called cowrie shells? This will look great stacked with my Hawaiian shell bangles that I bought after seeing the Popsugar June Spoiler #1 aloha pouch. https://www.mysubscriptionaddiction.com/2017/05/popsugar-must-have-box-june-2017-box-spoiler-coupon.html

The picture had a girl carrying the pouch with the coolest bracelets, everyone kept commenting on them. Turns out they’re everywhere in Hawaii so I bought some online.

Great summer piece! I love it!

This reminds me of those plants that came out of the green tubes in the original super Mario brothers video game!!

Me too!

L

Yep, I don’t think so.

I can’t decide if the ends look like lobster claws or clamps. Neither are all that appealing in jewelry form :/

Julie

Agreed!

Stormy

It’s claws! I saw this somewhere else, last week and it’s not attractive, in my opinion.

MM

Like last month’s, it’s pretty, but also kind of kitschy and not something elegant like previous months. I really like the more elegant, delicate looks from the spring, and the bolder pieces from the winter, so I’m hoping for a return to that. I might end up gifting this one. I think I’ll probably keep the sun horn necklace from last month, but I’m not crazy about the design, and silver and turquoise is such a common color combo.

Stormy

Kitchy, exactly. If it had anchors instead of lobster claws, I’d be all over it.

Emma

Ha, definitely not elegant! But I think it will be ok stacked. It’s not something I’d ever consider buying, it’s almost creepy (reminds me of LIttle Shop of Horrors), but for a really casual summer look, stacked, it’s ok.
