Chococurb July 2017 4425

Since temperatures have been on a steady incline these past several weeks, I was happy to see that my Chococurb box arrived in an insulated styrofoam box complete with ice packs. It's nice to know that they take a lot of care in their packaging according to the season.

There was no information card included in this month's box, but the items are all available on Chococurb's website. Let's get to tasting!

Mayana Space Bar, 3.5 oz. - Value $8.00

In one word: decadent. This chocolate bar is substantial yet airy. The vanilla-bean nougat was my favorite part though each component compliments its surrounding flavors. If you love Snickers but want something a little more elevated, this is for you.

Amedei Pistacchi Chocolate Bar, 1.75 oz. - Value $8.20

Oh, HELLO beautiful packaging! This Italian-crafted chocolate bar showcases white chocolate (something I admittedly wasn't expecting to find in this box) and green pistachios. The label also boasts an 'Academy of Chocolate Gold Winner 2016' sticker, so you know you're getting the good stuff.

The flavor of this bar was pretty mild overall, but the pistachio adds a definite nutty quality. So smooth and not too sweet! You can taste the quality and care. It was a really lovely surprise to receive some white chocolate among more traditional bars, too. It's not my favorite kind of chocolate, but it's nice to break things up every once in awhile!

Dolfin Chocolat au lait au thé vert Sencha, 2.47 oz. - Value $3.31 USD

I know that Belgian chocolate is really highly regarded, and now I have my own life-changing chocolate experience to share in my reasoning why. This bar is some of the best chocolate I've had. It has that impossibly milky, melt in your mouth texture that I love, and the added green tea is very subtle. It almost adds a calming quality in flavor and just a hint of pleasantly grainy texture.

This chocolate really reminded me of the Milka bars that my Omi would always bring back from Germany when she visited a couple times a year. Same smooth consistency, but something about this green tea variety from Dolfin was like nothing I've ever tried before.

Theo Dark Chocolate Salted Almond Butter Cups, 1.3 oz. - Value $3.39

I've had these Theo cups in the past, so I was happy to see them in this month's Chococurb box because, no surprise, they're delicious. I've always been big on peanut butter cups and would protectively hoard the Reese's variety when a precious 5 or so made their way into my trick-or-treat bag as a kid. These hold on to that same nostalgic concept but with almond butter and better quality chocolate, of course. I also love that Theo Chocolate is organic, fair trade, palm free, and soy free.

jcoco Vanuatu Coconut Pecan Mini Bar, 1 oz. - Value $2.50

I'm obsessed with all things coconut, so I knew I'd likely find this bar to be very tasty. I wasn't wrong! Coconut shavings, raw pecans, and a hint of sea salt give this bar a sort of sweet and salty, tropical flavor.

The jcoco website also further explains the bar's inner label message:

Every time you purchase a jcoco 3 oz bar, we donate a fresh, healthy serving of food to someone who would otherwise go without. This means, your everyday indulgence makes a vital difference to someone in your community!

What a wonderful mission to support.

jcoco Agave Quinoa Sesame Mini Bar, 1 oz. - Value $2.50

Lastly is another bar from jcoco - this one an agave quinoa sesame variety. I was glad to see more from the brand given how much their statement resonated with me! I do prefer the coconut flavor to the sesame, but this one is totally enjoyable too. I don't think I had ever tried a sesame chocolate before this one!

Verdict: I was so pleased with my first box from Chococurb! Being a huge chocolate nut, this box presented an awesome excuse to try 6 different varieties, all very different from each other. I figured that this box has a value of $27.90. I suppose that the extra expense of warm weather shipping packaging should also be taken into account when considering the $35.00 cost of this box. It's impressive that Chococurb goes the extra mile to carefully package their items with consideration for the season. Due to its quality and variety, I do think that this box of artisan chocolates is worth it for yourself or a gift for the chocoholic in your life.

Have you tried Chococurb yet?

My sister lives in Belgium for 1/2 the year and Paris the other 1/2. The Belgium chocolate is simply amazing and makes ours taste the like wax. She sends me a bunch at Christmas and it is my favorite gift ever.

Just to let those who might have a Chococurb Box sent anywhere in the Southeast (or anywhere it gets sweltering hot in the Summer) know, paying extra for their cooler and packs of cool water is a horrible idea.

We sent for one box last Summer, just to try them out and all of our chocolates arrived soft and melted. To top it off, we contacted them immediately to let them know. Unfortunately, we never received any response back from them at all. We won’t be giving them any more of our money.

These look so good! I may try this box in when it’s cooler. Looks like for me that will be in October.
