CHC Vintage July 2017 Clothing Subscription Box

CHC Vintage is a vintage fashion subscription box. Choose a dress box or a t-shirt and jewelry box. For the dress box, you can also choose from categories like “90s Grunge,” “Bohemian,” “Vintage Prints,” “Romantic,” and “Minimalist.”  This is a review of the dress box, “90s Grunge” style (I was in high school and college in the 1990s). You can see some examples of what the CHC Vintage folks consider to belong to each category on the sign-up page.

There isn’t an information card with this subscription since the items are vintage and selected according to your preferences. However, there was a nice card with a personalized note and some styling suggestions.

1990s Vintage Maxi Dress

I didn’t calculate a value for this dress because it is vintage. But, it was in excellent shape (no holes, no tears, no fabric pilling, all embroidery intact, it was clean, and the zipper in back worked).

The card said this was a bit more formal than what they usually send me, but I’m OK with variety. It’s a bit of a bra challenge; you can see a little of mine peeking out from behind the bow in back. I am open to suggestions for alternate bras (this is a standard strapless bra since the neckline is kind of wide). This is just a little loose on me but really comfy.

Moving on. If you have noticed, this review is a lot later for July than in previous months. That’s because this is my second dress this month. I first received the following shipment:

And this was totally cute and work appropriate (at least where I work, especially with a cardigan or shrug because it can get a little cold). But. The zipper didn’t work. There was one place it kept getting stuck, whether off or on my body. So I contacted customer service and heard back very soon (under an hour, I think). They promised to send a replacement the next day and I had the replacement in hand before the week was out. They also told me to keep the first dress. I am going to see if I can get the zipper replaced at an alterations shop.

And they also sent this necklace as an apology for overlooking the broken zipper!

Verdict: The dress I received from CHC Vintage was lightweight for summer and super comfortable. I think it would be really good for some kind of outdoor evening function.

Also, I know there has been some discussion in the comments on past reviews of how the dresses I receive, though in the “90s grunge” category according to CHC Vintage, aren’t really “grunge.” Well, if you look at the card for the first shipment (pictured second), you’ll note that the folks at CHC Vintage were choosing 90s garments for me based on my preference for work wear. (There is a survey you fill out when you sign up. I figured if I am going to receive a lot of dresses, I should get some use out of them rather than letting them pile up in my closet. So I opted for work wear when given the choice.) But, work wear is not always compatible with grunge style! They said if I want, I can opt for a grunge-style dress some months by just emailing them and requesting it. I will probably do that at some point so people can get an idea of what other sorts of dresses you might get with this subscription.

I will say, I am impressed with the customer service and turnaround time, and I’m also happy they’re going back to my profile and trying to choose dresses based on my quiz answers. I feel like this subscription is really personalized!

What do you think of CHC Vintage? What style would you choose?

So did u like the dress they replaced? You didn’t say much about it nor have any pics in it.

I couldn’t wear the first dress because the zipper didn’t work. I did say it was cute and work appropriate and that I was going to take it to an alterations shop and see if I could get it fixed.

Did they send an identical replacement? That’s how I interpreted “I had the replacement in hand before the week was out.” I think that’s the source of confusion since it sounds like the question is geared toward the replacement dress in terms of fit/functionality and pics of You in it. I admit I was a little confused about getting a replacement dress and the plan to get the first one (prsumably the same dress) repaired as well.

Can you request lengths with this sub? I prob a my wouldn’t ever wear a full length dress.

Yeah, I had a choice of mini, midi, and maxi. I did not want to do mini but did choose the other two.

Victoria secret has pretty cheap bralettes or any bra that closes in front generally tend to blend in with open back dresses. It tends to only look bad when the hooks are showing.
