There isn’t a traditional information card with this box. This month’s theme was “Whimsy.”
A note on prices: Items like this can come from a variety of different suppliers at many price points depending on how many you buy, etc. Even different colors of the same size and shape of glass beads are priced differently due to materials needed to make the colors! So I have opted not to provide prices in this review.
Please note that no directions are given, and you have to supply your own needles, stringing materials, tools, and findings. Also, note that you will receive this towards the end of the month or the beginning of the next month if you live in the U.S., since it is shipping from Canada. (Blueberry Cove Beads did recently start using a new shipping service so now you can track your packages, though!)
Pink Glass Rounds
I’ve actually been wearing a lot of hot pinks lately. I used them in my necklace this month, but I have some left over (you get a lot), so I can make a few other things.
Polymer Clay (or Resin) Flowers
I’m not huge on the “whimsy” theme (it’s just not my style), but I did like these. I used the two pink ones in a necklace, and I still have the cream-colored one left to do something else with.
Opaque Aqua Rondelles
These fit well with a color palette I’ve been using lately. I used a few in a necklace this month, but I have some left over to play with in other pieces, as well.
Glass Disk Beads with Flowers
These are good for a fun spring or summer design. I used a few, but again, I have a lot left over to try other things with.
Bunny on Crescent Moon Brass Charms
Brass Cat Charms
This month, we got some brass-finish charms. You will usually get a few metal components with this subscription, but they do not always have the same finish (like here, where the left ones are antiqued and the right ones are not). It is best not to try to add a patina to the charms, as they are usually plated (I found out the hard way last month) and not solid brass. Both of these are whimsical; the cats are probably small enough for a charm bracelet, but the bunny charms are a bit large and would be better suited for a necklace or something similar.
And speaking of cats, you can see Angus has run across my photo area and left a few cat hairs…
Wood Bird Buttons
These are pretty cute. I like collecting buttons to use as clasps in wrap bracelets, and that is probably how I will use these.
Turquoise Colored Glass Beads with Flowers
These are a little smaller than marbles, and they went nicely in the necklace I made this month. I used all three of them.
Lampwork Glass Beads
I am still trying to figure out the best project to use these in. They might look good mixed with some porcelain I already have, especially on a pink or yellow ribbon, if I can manage to get one through the holes in these.
Glass Beads with Foil
I love these. I have a project I’m saving pairs of glass beads (especially those with foil in them) for, and these will go into my collection of materials for that.
Ceramic Bunny Beads
I’m not much into wearing animal jewelry, but I know a couple of people who like bunnies, so these will probably be incorporated into a gift (earrings?) for one of them.
I decided to try to replicate the style of something here that I’d seen online. I originally intended to make this a lariat necklace but I ran out of thread before it was long enough, so I added a clasp in the back. I learned a few things: (1) I am not particularly good at micro-macramé, nor do I have the patience for it, and (2) Micro-macramé is hard when there are two cats trying to eat your thread. I had to keep pulling it out of Monkey’s and Angus’s mouths. But it was a worthwhile exercise, because I learned something!
Verdict: I did not calculate a value here because it is hard to find similar items when you don’t know the precise materials the beads are made from (I do wish there was more information on the card that comes with the box, in case I find something I’d like to order more of). I feel like the numbers and types of beads included were representative of what you would receive in a given month. The theme this month was not my favorite, but not every theme is going to appeal to every person, and I did like a lot of the individual beads and charms, so I am happy, overall.
