Each collection comes with an invoice with your price to keep each item and retail prices. If you keep all items, you get a $4 discount on your next box. If you decide to return an item, you are refunded the “Your Price” amount. You also get a note from your stylist with any extra info and a suggestion to go to Wantable’s Stream feature, where you can request items you would like to try.

Here’s what my stylist picked for me this month:

Beautisol Exscrub Me? - Cost to keep: $8.61 (Retail Value $17)

Beautisol is a company that sells products mainly geared toward self-tanning and this is one of their facial scrubs. Of course, you can use it even if you are not tanning and get great benefits. It has a nice consistency and is gritty enough to polish your skin but not be abrasive. You don’t need to apply much pressure – it does the work for you. It smells like tangerines and has some great citrus oils to help your skin feel refreshed. The downside is that it is formulated with polyethylene beads which are not good for the environment. I’m not sure why they didn’t go all natural (they included jojoba beads too) and make this a more responsible product.

GLOW for a cause Facial Nourishing Cream - Cost to keep: $19.25 (Retail Value $38)

If you have skin that loses lots of moisture during the day, this cream is worth a shot. Calendula is touted as a great ingredient for preventing skin from drying out. It is nice and rich but sinks in without leaving a sheen or tacky feeling. I have been using it as my last layer of my nightly skin routine and have been waking up with soft, glowing skin. I like that it is not heavily fragranced and has a light scent of orange. Jar packaging isn’t my favorite, but the product is worth it.

Eddie Funkhouser Hyperreal Hydrating Lip Gloss Meow Meow - Cost to keep: $5.57 (Retail Value $10.99)

The description of this lip gloss says it “provides a brilliant, color-rich, multidimensional finish” and I’m guessing that is probably true for any other color but this one. Meow Meow is a sheer gloss with a yellowish tint which wasn’t super flattering on its own. I have swatched it below to show what it looks like worn alone but from now on, I’ll wear it as a gloss over my matte colors to get a different look. It has a bit of shimmer and is moisturizing. The texture is a little thick but not sticky and there is only a hint of scent.

Eddie Funkhouser Micromineral Foundation Powder in Light Medium - Cost to keep: $6.58 (Retail Value $12.99)

I typically use mineral powder foundation as my everyday go-to so I was happy to see one in my box. I use my normal brush to apply it and layer several layers until I get the medium coverage that I like. The finish is natural and matte enough that I don’t need another powder or spray. My bronzer and blush apply nicely on top and it lasts throughout the day. I think the color is close to a match for me, but maybe a little too yellow. I’m pretty neutral on this one. I still like my other mineral powder foundations better so I’ll probably be sending this back to try again.

All of the items swatched from top to bottom: powder foundation, scrub, cream, lip gloss.

I used the GLOW cream to prep my skin for the powder foundation here and got a nice natural finish. I used the gloss alone here but would probably layer it over one of my matte colors more often.

Verdict: This month’s Wantable Makeup Collection was a nice introduction to this subscription for me. I like that I got items in the makeup and skincare categories to try. I’m sending some items back but the process is simple and I can give feedback to my stylist so they can have a better idea of what I’d want. The value of this box totals about $79 plus free shipping.

I always liked this sub and subbed on and off for years. The customer service has always been fantastic. I had wondered why they stopped reviewing it on this site so I’m happy to see it back!

I wonder what they do with all the used product they get back. Seems like a huge waste. I don’t see this working as a sub box because they can’t send it out again.

I know I would probably keep an item instead of returning. Even if I didn’t use and put it in my trade bag. My daughter and friend swap out the unwanted stuff. Like I don’t use nail polish at all. My daughter loves crazy lip and eye color (I can’t c me with bright purple lips).
I think a lot of people might keep and the next box is $4 less.

They probably don’t get as many returns as you might think. Myself, while I might make the effort to return clothes, I probably wouldn’t go through the trouble of returning beauty products that will total less than 40 bucks. I’ll probably just give the misses away to someone that might like it, unless there is something seriously wrong. If 3 months in a row are misses, I cancel.

And while I don’t know what’s true and what’s not, I have read that these brands pay to be in the sub boxes hoping you will like and repurchase their products. I wonder what the percentage is on that is. I mean, I subscribe to a lot, so I have to really love something to go out of my way to repurchase. In 3 years of subbing, I have probably repurchased 10 or so items. I think that’s a fraction of 1% of the things I am sent to try. I just get so many things in the subs that there are very few I run out of. If I liked it enough to run out, that means I kept using it despite other items coming my way, so I’ll buy again. (Balance Me, So Susan, Lord & Berry).

When I had a business I believe we could write off returns we could not resell on our taxes as losses. If we had a large amount of those though I don’t think we could of handled it financially. I totally get your point!

So I needed another sub like I needed a hole in my damn head, but you made me buy this. I’m so excited at the prospect of a sub that might actually customize?!? Based on my answers and feedback? I mean, I realize I have to give them a learning curve, but I have high hopes.

This wasn’t the best box for me this month. I usually don’t return but I won’t use any of these.

So, this is confusing for me. You get the makeup and are able to swatch it/test it and then send it back if you don’t want it? Or it has to be brand new in the package for you to send it back?

Tiffany

It does not have to be brand new in package. The Wantable Makeup Collection has a no questions asked return policy within 28 days of receiving your collection. If you opt to keep everything, you get a $4 keep-all discount on your next month (next month will be $36). if you decide to return anything you get a refund of the “your price” amount but not the $4 keep-all discount. I hope that helps. Let me know if I can answer anything else.
