The box came with this information card detailing the items in the box. There are also usually coupons and/or product literature.

Vegan Cuts Snack June 2017 Box

Nutryttiva Banana Bar (1.06 oz) – Value $0.83 (buy a 24 pack for $19.90)

I’ve had these lots of times from lots of different food subscription boxes. Each bar is apparently made from three bananas, and they taste pretty good (looks are another matter) but I would say a fresh banana is more filling. Still, this could be a good option if you are unable to take fresh fruit with you.

Vegan Cuts Snack June 2017 Box

Garden of Life Sport Protein Bar in Chocolate Fudge (2.7 oz) – Value $2.36 (buy a box of 12 for $28.32)

We are big consumers of protein bars at my house but we usually buy ones with whey in them (i.e., not vegan). So it is interesting to have a vegan protein bar to compare every now and then. This product is new to me, although I am familiar with the brand. At any rate, this had a decent flavor and a much more appealing texture than some other vegan protein snacks.

Vegan Cuts Snack June 2017 Box

Pure Growth Organic Apple Cinnamon Breakfast Biscuit Bites (1.2 oz) – Value $0.70 (buy 6, 5-pack boxes for $21.12)

This is another brand I’m familiar with from subscription boxes, though this product is new to me. Think of these as mildly apple-flavored cracker/cookie hybrids.  (They do have the appearance of dog training treats, though.)

Vegan Cuts Snack June 2017 Box

Enlightened Roasted Broad Beans in Garlic and Onion (1 oz) – Value $1.25 (buy a case of 48 for $60)

I’ve had these before though possibly in a different flavor. If you like getting protein and fiber from beans but are a little tired of crunchy chickpeas, these are roasted broad beans (aka fava beans).  The flavor was not too strong (you know how garlic and onion can be in snacks) and these were not so hard that you’d break a tooth on them.

Vegan Cuts Snack June 2017 Box

Nature’s Bakery Organic Brownie (1.3 oz) – Value $0.99

Another brand I’m familiar with from food subscription boxes! Actually, this is a product I’ve bought a few times before. These are good if you want a little bit of chocolate in a package that is carefully portion-controlled. These stay soft for a long time (although not forever) and I don’t really notice that they are lacking butter and eggs.

Vegan Cuts Snack June 2017 Box

Chickpeatos Crispy Chickpeas in Tomato Basil (1 oz) – Value $0.72 (buy a 5-ounce bag for $3.59)

I am pretty sure I’ve received this exact item from Vegan Cuts before (though there is a small possibility it was Love with Food instead). These are OK for chickpea snacks although not quite as flavorful as the ones from Saffron Road.

Vegan Cuts Snack June 2017 Box

Foods Alive Lemon Chia-Crunch Power Crackers (0.75 oz) – Value $1.75 (buy a 3-ounce bag for $6.99)

I’ve had these from RawBox before. They are raw and seedy so they don’t have the texture of regular crackers. But, the lemon flavor makes them work fairly well without any toppings or spreads.

Vegan Cuts Snack June 2017 Box

Nutiva Organic Hazelnut Spread with Cocoa (0.78 oz) – Value $1.50 (buy 10 packets for $14.99)

This is another subscription box standby. I learned the hard way not to make a sandwich with this (because even though it sounds good in theory, a chocolate sandwich is actually not that fun to eat for lunch, even when you have nothing else available). But it is good for spreading on apple slices.

Sun Warrior Illumin8 Organic Meal in Vanilla Bean (40 g) – Value $1.87 (buy a 1 kg package for $46.72)

This is another product I’m familiar with from RawBox. I make a smoothie every morning and incorporate some protein powder and that’s where this is going. I find that this blends into a smoothie fairly well for a plant-based protein, but I don’t really like mixing it up with liquid and drinking it as a shake.

Guru Organic Lite Energy Drink (8.4 fl oz) – Value $2.04 (buy a case of 24 for $48.99)

I get this a lot in subscription boxes. But, it only has 10 calories and the taste doesn’t turn me off. I drink caffeine all day so I can’t say whether this gives me energy, but if I am going to get a drink with this subscription, I’d actually prefer something like this to the Soylent of a few months ago.

Vegan Cuts Snack June 2017 Box

Hippeas in Far Out Fajita (1 oz) – Value $0.68 (buy 10, 4-ounce bags for $27.12)

I’ve had these before in another flavor, but I like this one better because it doesn’t claim that it tastes like cheese (the “Vegan White Cheddar” flavor definitely does not taste like cheddar). These are airy, crunchy chickpea puffs (kind of similar to Snapea Crisps in texture).

Vegan Cuts Snack June 2017 Box

Cherryvale Farms Peanut Butter Cookie Mix (12.5 oz) – Value $6 (buy 4 boxes for $23.99)

I was excited to see this in the box but mildly bummed when I realized I actually had to put forth some effort to bake in order to have cookies. We don’t have enough peanut butter in the house right now to do this but will buy some extra this weekend. This has a mixture of flours instead of egg as a binder.

Yumbutter Organic Chocolate Espresso Peanut Spread (6.8 oz) – Value $6.99 (buy a case of 6 for $37.75)

This came in a past Vegan Cuts Snack Box as well. If you read any of my food or fitness subscription reviews, you’ll know I hate coffee. Last time, I gave this to my husband (a coffee drinker) for a proper evaluation. He ate it but said it was really bitter and that when you put this much coffee flavor into something, it needs more sweetener to be palatable. So, this might work spread onto something sugary (like an apple, or in a peanut butter and banana sandwich) or with jelly, but is kind of hard to take – even for coffee lovers – on its own.

Vegan Cuts Snack June 2017 Box

Enjoy Life Plentils in Dill and Sour Cream (0.8 oz) – Value $0.45 (buy a 4-ounce bag for $2.26)

These are free from the eight major allergens. (I am not sure how they get a sour cream flavor without dairy, but I ate these already and the package is long gone.) They are a puffy texture that you wouldn’t recognize as coming from lentils if the package didn’t say so (they have lots of starchy stuff in there, too).

Verdict: I calculated a value of $28.13 for this month’s Vegan Cuts Snack Box. That is the second month in a row where the value was at least a couple of dollars above the cost of the box, which is wonderful for a food subscription. I felt that most of the items were the sorts of food that would disappear from the kitchen over the course of a few weeks if you bought a whole case, but that there was nothing I was super excited about either (except maybe the cookie mix, which will take some effort). A lot of items were repeats from either Vegan Cuts or another food subscription. However, it is always nice for me to know I can just start eating the snacks without reading the ingredients list to see if I can actually eat something (since I am vegetarian with no food allergies).

What do you think of the June 2017 Vegan Cuts Snack Box?

Any coupon codes to try this box out? 🙂

Ragan

They don’t usually offer coupon codes. Sometimes they have sales in their shop on their limited edition boxes, which often contain items from past months of the subscription box.

I want this box so much; I just wish more of their choices were diabetic-friendly.

I don’t really even like bananas, but I love those Nutryttiva banana bars!

The chocolate ones are better. (Not sure if vegan, though. I might’ve gotten that one in Love with Food.)
