Smartass and Sass is a monthly subscription box designed for gals with a sense of humor.

Each month, you'll receive 4-8 awesomely irreverent items handmade by artists and small businesses. The women behind Smartass and Sass might not take themselves too seriously, but they are serious about supporting the creatives behind the items in their box and paying a fair price for their quality goods.

I have a bit of a sailors mouth, one might say, so I think this month's theme is right up my alley. This month it's "Get Your Sh*t Together" which is also a good kick in the butt for me, the ever procrastinator. These items kinda walk the line between a healthy snort when you first unwrap them and going "Ew", just a little.

I love that this box supports small indie makers of a myriad of items, all of them being women as far as I can tell. It's nice to receive a box that you know is uniquely curated and full of things not everyone already has. It's also a great way to find new vendors you may have never known existed otherwise!

The thank you note from Abby & Kim is a nice touch.

There's another little card enclosed with a quote that runs with this month's theme, and chance to win a bonus item in your next box for reviewing. Free stuff is always cool!

"I hope your day is as nice as your butt" Greeting Card - Value $4.00

I think this minty/teal letterpress card is rather lovely. I have a few lady friends with nice butts that would really appreciate me calling it out and brightening their day.

Dat Booty Lip Balm - Value $3.75

Humphrey's Handmade has a slew of funny lip balms in unique flavors, but I like this simple mango flavored bees wax one. Are you picking up on the theme yet?

Hot Sh*t Pot Holder - Value $10.00

This mint pot holder with gold 'n white triangles and black lettering is quite literally for holding "hot sh*t", but I see what they did there! The back has a silver heat resistant backing and it features a hanging loop, so you can display this in your kitchen and let your guests know how highly you feel about yourself! Super cute design!

"Wake up, Kick Ass, Repeat" Blank Notebook - Value $3.00?

One can never have too many blank notebooks for jotting down to-do lists, journal entries, or song lyrics. This one is a simple Smartass & Sass branded book with a sort of water color-y style design with blue, red, and deep purple, with a reminder to kick ass each and every day. I like that sentiment.

Poop Washi Tape - Value $4.50

This gross-yet-cute washi tape by Julie Ann Art made me giggle. I'm a big fan of washi tape, but haven't seen anything quite like this! I know in Japan, poop is good luck, so don't turn your nose up at this too quickly! Her other tapes look pretty awesome too! Great discovery!

"Take a Poop? Please Light a Match" Matches - Value $4.00

These are actually really nice, classy matches that are obviously cheeky as well. They come in packs of 3 for $12 from Inkspot Workshop. I light a lot of candles, so I am always in need, and these are of course perfect for guests in the bathroom.

"Do Epic Sh*t" 15 oz Mug - Value $16.95

This mug is HUGE! I drink coffee every morning and collect mugs, so this is a real treat for me. I love the orange and pink lettering giving me permission to go ahead and "Do Epic Sh*t", because some mornings I just forget to, ya know?

Bonus Item!!

Smartass & Sass Stickers - Value $2.00?

I'm overjoyed by all of the stickers I've been receiving in boxes lately, and these are no exception. The colors are really great, and have some silly-ass things to say! I'll definitely be sticking these on stuff that I mail out to my friends!

Verdict: I quite liked my first month of Smartass and Sass! I can see some people not being into all the butt and poop jokes, but I am sort of a rough & tumble, snarky gal, so I can appreciate these items. I thought the design of all the items were great, and the colors were harmonious and pleasing. The message was crass, yet positive, which I can get down with. I love love loved the mug and will no doubt find uses for all the other items. I'm actually tempted to order some pizza and/or boob washi tape now too! The dollar value calculated to $48.20, so this box has more than paid for itself.

What do you think of Smartass and Sass? Is it "too much" or "not enough" sass for you?

Awesome box!! I’m totally shocked at so many negative comments. The nature of the box is this kind of fun. If you don’t like it, find another one. There’s makeup, food, clothes, hobby, arts and crafts, etc. I love the curation and would be all about every item in that box :). My boyfriend even thought it was a “cute chick box”. I just wish it was cheaper. The 6.95 in addition to the high price point box is a little stiff. However- I still loved it that much I might bite the bullet and get a subscription if the next one is as good!!

So where is the “classy” part of this box? To me, this is more like crass! I could see maybe one box as part of a gag gift. But 3 to 6 months of items like this? Uh, no thanks! I can see all these items ending up at a garage sale along with the retirement and over-the-hill gag gifts.

I’ve enjoyed the reviews of this box – I just wish it were a tad bit cheaper (or maybe if they built the shipping price into the cost of the box). And I def have a potty mouth so all of these items would be wins for me!

Yes! I agree that free shipping is always a good idea!

Annabella

I feel like I need to go wash my eyes . I cringe every time these words/jokes are used in public and think: What have they got to prove so badly? To who and why? Are they overcompensating a bit perhaps? Anyway, I don’t like it when more ugliness is introduced into the world than it already has. I personally don’t like to think on these subjects any more than I absolutely have to.

I think a lot of people feel the same way you do, Annabelle. This box certainly is not for everyone out there!

On a flip side, what does one have to prove by being politically correct? We are no longer in 1800s. Let that sailor mouth loose!

However, I do think the contents of the box are a bit too teenage for me.

I find the box too over the top. The concept is great—I love a smartass saying as much as the next person but this is not funny it is crude. There are ways to be smartass and sassy and do it with class.

I’m a northerner, and this box is just too much. It’s a flush and not a royal one!

Hahaha, nice little jab there, Deb!

I find this box tacky. Not because of the premise behind it but because most items just appear to be for shock value and not to be “sassy”. You can be bad ass and sassy and do it with class.

I think part of it is seeing all of these items together in one box, it can be a bit overwhelming, for sure.

Good for them! It’s nice to see a box take risks like this. No it won’t be for everyone but honestly most boxes are pretty boring. I at least got a giggle out of some of this 🙂 I really hope MSA continues to review it!

I got a giggle out of it too. I don’t think all months will be as crass as this one, but we’ll do our best to weigh in so everyone knows what to expect!

Kathy

So not my kind of box. Although I have a similar kick a$$ notebook which I love, everything else is too much s**t. I would not be able to use this and I don’t know anyone in my personal or professional life that could use or want this. So glad I waited for a review before ordering. I would have been very unhappy with this box.

Marne Orenich

That’s what we’re here for! I’m glad we could help you make an informed decision, Kathy!

I don’t need more tchtokes in my life but kinda wish I did; the curation on this is great. What a fun box!

Marne Orenich

I agree that the curation, particularly the color theme, worked really well.

Great review Marne!

I kinda love this box. Trying to find a way to get one since I’m not a current subscriber since the poo emoji is my spirit animal. 😉

Thanks Andrea! LOL- poop emoji spirit animal!

This must qualify for “sentence of the week”, if not the month.
