The Bocandy Starter Box includes 5-7 product from U.S. and abroad. I've been checking out more international snack and candy boxes lately, but this is my first time reviewing Bocandy!

Super Natilla (buy a 6.5 oz. bag for $1.78 on Walmart.com)

So I just got about 8 of these rolling around in the box, but it looks like they are normally sold in a bag, individually wrapped. Super Nilla is a pecan flavored toffee candy from Mexico and almost tastes like pecan salt water taffy. I can't say I'm a fan of these. Something about chewy pecan flavored candy doesn't really do it for me.

Kras Bananko - Value $0.56 (Buy a case of 36 for $19.99 on Amazon)

I'm going to be honest with you, the sight and smell of this Croatian candy bar does not sit right with me. I'm not one of those people who are into banana candy, and I just don't think I can bring myself to eat it even (especially?) when dipped in chocolate.

Pepecuate Japanese Style Peanuts

I'm having a heck of a time finding any info about these snacks on the Bocandy site even though it says to go there to find out more about what's in my box. I think these are actually a Mexican snack but said to be "Japanese Style". A quick google search uncovers that they are also called "Cracker Nuts" and did indeed originate in Mexico, where in the 1940s a Japanese immigrant by the name of Yoshigei Nakatani invented them. Essentially, these are coated and deep fried, not totally unlike my beloved Indonesian "Medan Style" peanuts from Top Munch last month. These aren't as fried tasting and flavorful though.

PulparinDots Sandia Flavored, 30 grams - Value $0.65 (buy 20 packs for $13.00 on Amazon)

These Mexican candies have watermelons on the front, so I thought they'd be a fruity candy, but these are very weird and spicy. It kind of conjures up the same feelings I had about sour pickle balls from April's MunchPak (spoiler: those feelings were NOT good).

Kabaya Thomas & Friends Chocolate Coated Cookie Sticks

These are basically my beloved Pocky, made by a different Japanese company and branded with Thomas the Tank Engine. By far the best candy in the box.

Kabaya Hello Kitty Strawberry Coated Cookie Sticks

Same thing here but in strawberry flavor and branded with Hello Kitty. I'm not a huge fan of the milky strawberry stuff, so I will most likely pass these on to a friend.

Dobrogea Eugenia Biscuits - Value $1.00 (buy a box of 24 for $23.99 on Amazon)

Ok, so I thought this would just be your basic chocolate cream filled cookie, but there is something strange happening with this Romanian "biscuit" that I cannot explain. As soon as I opened the package, it smelled like a strong chemical, related to plastic, and I got an immediate headache. Against my better judgment, I ate a piece of the cookie and felt nauseous. Nope nope nope. I don't like this at all. The smell is overtaking the whole box and I have no idea what it even is. After some searching online, it seems that this has rum flavor in it, which must be what I'm smelling. Honestly, this may just be spoiled. Please send help.

Ricolino Duvalin Bi Sabor - (buy a variety of flavors available on Amazon for $12.05)

Lastly, we have this little single serving of what looks to be a half vanilla/half chocolate cream resembling a nutella-like situation. Kind of weird that it doesn't come with anything to dunk in it, so I just dipped a finger in to get a taste. So, it IS hazelnut and vanilla cream and tastes pretty good, but again, I wish I had a cookie dunker or something.

Verdict: This box was ROUGH on me. I did not care for most of it, either because it wasn't my taste, or it gave me a headache. The Thomas the Tank Engine pocky-esque stuff was the only thing I really liked and I'd rather just buy Pocky. It was hard to track down costs for these items and the Bocandy site offered no help. Sigh. Even at a cheap $9.99 (+ shipping), this was a big miss for me.

If only that’s what it was! (Though still would probably pass…)

The Mexican candies are watermelon flavored tamarind paste. Tamarind is not my favorite either…

Marne Orenich

Maybe it’s the tamarind? Although I thought I’ve tried and liked tamarind soda. Hmmmm.

Ha ha, we just had someone leave a couple boxes of those Duvalin things on our staff table! The vanilla and strawberry (my favorite!) flavors. The boxes come with a strip of little plastic spatulas to eat them with, but you have to break each one off individually, so I’m guessing they broke down a full box to send out, but there was no real good or sanitary way to send out the spatulas.

Ugh. Thanks for explaining, Zali! I saw a spatula in a YouTube video I watched but no such device came in my Bocandy Box. :/

I tried one month, ended up with two ( due the their pre-billing cycle ) . Ah , not a fan of snacks nearing their expiration date.

Marne Orenich

Ah yes, the pre-billing cycle trickery!

This review was pretty funny despite your suffering through some of the snacks.

Of all the MANY boxes I’ve subscribed to over the years, BoCandy is easily the worst. With all the yummy treats from around the world I just don’t understand how they manage to consistently pick so many vile ones to include in their box and still manage to stay in business. Reading your review brought back flashbacks of the months I subscribed. 😖

Oh wow, at least I’m not alone! Thank you for making me realize I’m not a total brat, Jessica!
