Stitch Fix Maternity Clothing Subscription Box Review – May 2017

Stitch Fix is a monthly styling subscription service. When you sign up you take a pretty in-depth survey about your sizes, your style, and pricing preferences, and then your personal stylist sends you 5 items to try once a month. The fee for this service is $20, and that includes free shipping and free returns. And if you keep any of the items they send you, you get to deduct the $20 fee from the total. (If you keep all five items, you also get a 25% discount!)

This is my invoice sheet. It lists the prices per item and the discount I’d receive by keeping all 5 items. With the 25% discount and my $20 styling fee factored in, this box would cost me a total of $233.50 to keep everything – an average of $46.70 per item and a total discount of $104.50.

Every StitchFix also includes a note from your stylist and a card showing each item and styling inspiration.

Madigan Baylee Maternity Scoop Neck Dress – Cost to Keep: $74

I had to try this gorgeous dress on first. I love this print! The colors are gorgeous and the dress feels so high quality. It’s got a stretchy lining so it isn’t see through at all and I feel like I get some extra support from it. I really feel like owning this dress means I also have to now own some purple or coral flats/sandals? I don’t know, but I had to keep this.

Loveapella Maternity Gisela Maternity Lace Detail Knit Top – Cost to Keep: $48

This top is okay. I normally love Loveapella. I like the fit, shape, and color but I feel like the print could be a little more flattering and I don’t generally care for lace details. I don’t hate this shirt, though, and it’s a comfortable tank with nice coverage and a good fit that I know I could use this summer. I kept this for the 5-item discount.

Liverpool Taylor Maternity Cuffed Denim Short – Cost to Keep: $54

Uh, I knew I’d be keeping these as soon as I saw they were from Liverpool. The length is perfect, not too short or long. The material is comfortable, but what really sold me is the material of the maternity band. It’s definitely a fantastic quality like the rest of what I know from Liverpool, and after I had it on I knew I couldn’t go back.

Pale Sky Lottie Pleated Maternity Blouse – Cost to Keep: $64

Um, hello! This outfit is adorable which is great because I know exactly how to always wear these two pieces but awful because it means I have to also pay for both of these pieces. The good thing is that this top really can work anytime, not just during pregnancy. The material is light but still opaque – it’ll be perfect for keeping cool this Summer. The arm holes are not too big, which can be a struggle with sleeveless tops, and the length is also spot on for me.

Lila Ryan Kent Maternity Capri Skinny Jean – Cost to Keep: $98

Last summer I bought my first pair of white boyfriend jeans to wear during the summer, through Golden Tote. I loved this departure from my normal wardrobe and had fun mixing my outfits up from plain jeans and looking a little extra stylish. This summer, I can’t wear them, obviously. These jeans are perfect maternity replacements. And they’re insanely comfortable. The fit is spot on and, again, the maternity band is so high quality and feels like butter. The price tag is daunting for a pair of jeans I can only wear for a few months but the quality stands out and my maternity wardrobe is so selective and small that I get a lot of wear out of each piece. I’ll definitely be wearing these a lot, and knowing they’ll hold up and I’ll be comfortable makes it worth it (especially when considering the 5-item discount for the whole box).

Verdict: This month Stitch Fix gave me a new stylist – this seems to happen when I have a couple boxes in a row that I don’t really keep much of anything from. I like this stylist! I feel like she really nailed the kind of items I like to wear. I could definitely like the Loveappella top more than I do (I wish it were just a v-neck with no lace, at least), but keeping it is worth it for the 5-item 20% discount for the other items since I know I’ll probably still wear it this summer. The box total was more expensive than I prefer, but the quality and style is there for me. I’m generally frugal with maternity clothing, shopping clearance and second-hand, but I don’t mind investing in some items that help me feel great because I know they’ll get tons of wear since my maternity wardrobe is relatively small (last pregnancy, I bought a ton of maternity items from Old Navy and once I dug them out for this pregnancy, I realized most of my things – tops especially – were really worn out from being worn all the time).

Side Note: I’ve noticed that I actually like my maternity wardrobe, as a whole, better than my regular wardrobe… My gut says that’s because it’s much smaller and the items I do have are all ones I love and that feel good. I purged a little when swapping my maternity items in, but I would love to actually be able to get down to a comparatively minimal regular wardrobe of just items I love and feel good in and reach for. I’m not ready to go to one of those 18-items-total capsule wardrobes, but I can definitely do a lot to be more selective with my clothes. WHY does that feel so hard every time I try to go purge? I get in the mood to get rid of at least half of my things and then go through it all and end up donating, like, 6 things. What the heck?
