Rescue Box is a subscription box for dogs or cats. For dogs, choose from small (up to 20 pounds), medium (20-50 pounds), and large (50+ pounds). They are associated with Greater Good (the folks who brought you The Hunger Site, The Animal Rescue Site, and more) and your purchase of a subscription will help provide food and vaccines to shelter pets!

Hyper Pet Hyper Flippy Flopper – Value $5.40

Nyx doesn’t understand Frisbees (like at all) so we will be passing this along to someone whose dog doesn’t have orthopedic problems (it doesn’t seem like it will stand up to heavy chewing, which is what Nyx would likely want to do with it). But, if your dog likes summer activities including going to the beach or lake or park or just playing outside in the yard, this is a great inclusion.

Exclusively Dog Best Buddy Bones (cheese flavor, 5.5 oz) – Value $2.89

Exclusively Dog is a brand I see in a lot of subscription boxes. They tend more towards natural ingredients and are vegetarian. Unfortunately, the first ingredient here is wheat flour, so Nyx is unable to have them, but there are tons of dogs in my extended family who would enjoy them. These are made in the USA.

Redbarn Naturals Fetchers (0.83 oz) – Value $2.65

Lately, there has usually been at least one chew of this sort in Rescue Box. I’ve fed this brand to my cats before and have found it to be pretty high quality. This contains beef (esophagus and pizzle) as well as chicken meal, so it may not be best for dogs with allergies.  (This also comes in a large size but based on the length of the treat I received, I am pretty sure this is the “regular.”)

Petstages Slingsock – Value $9.27

Nyx doesn’t understand fetch very well, she just wants to turn every toy into a tug toy.  But, this seems to hold up under those circumstances. You’ll see a few photos of her below, tugging on it, and she didn’t manage to rip it or anything.  This is one I’d supervise the dog with, though, so that no sock parts rip off or get swallowed.

Hi-Bouncer Ball by Caitec – Value $7.97

This doesn’t bounce much on the carpet (Nyx has to play with it inside), but Nyx is a big fan of toy balls in general. Her goal in life is to fit 2 or more into her mouth. Anyway, I am pretty sure this is a new item for us and it was a hit. This would also be good for outdoor activities in the summertime.

Nyx didn’t really understand the point of this toy, but she enjoyed it in her own way, nonetheless.

Verdict: I calculated a value of $28.18 for May’s Rescue Box. That is slightly below the cost of the box, but I believe that is the first time in all the months I’ve been reviewing the box that it came in under cost. (Also, it is only a dollar or two off.) Do keep in mind that a lot of the prices above are sale prices, so the actual retail value is probably a little bit higher. Overall, I thought it was a good mix of items and fairly representative for this subscription, and based on my past experience, you should expect the value to improve next month.

Ragan stumbled across My Subscription Addiction in late 2013 and immediately subscribed to way too many beauty boxes. She's now focused on boxes for her cats and dog, vegan/vegetarian food boxes, and craft subscriptions (and she didn't give up beauty boxes entirely).
