There’s not a traditional information card with this subscription, but you get a funny dog meme, some information about upcoming themes, photos of featured subscribers’ dogs, etc.

There was also a gift card from Hello Fresh. I have received so many of these at this point that I have (almost) run out of snarky things to say about them. These are the 2017 equivalent of a “1000 free hours of AOL” CD if you are old enough to remember the mid-1990s.

Chomper Gladiator Tuff 8” Frisbee – Value $11.57

This is called a Frisbee, I suppose because it is round. It is clearly not meant to fly (but that is OK because Nyx doesn’t understand Frisbees, anyway). It is a thick plush toy that Nyx hasn’t managed to destroy yet, and that is what counts.

Outward Hound Bottle Squeakers Bottle Bud Squeak Monkey – Value $5.99

There are some pictures of Nyx playing with this below. You can put an EMPTY plastic bottle in here and get some crinkle noises in addition to the squeaker noises that the toy makes. Trust me, two sounds are EVEN MORE ANNOYING than just one. But Nyx loves it.

Here is a shot of the monkey toy so you can see how the bottle goes in.

Outward Hound Pupstop Barrier – Value $8.65

The idea behind this is that you put it between the front seats of a car to keep your dog from coming up between the seats and bothering you while you drive. I don’t really find this useful – do you see all those straps? Way too complicated. Plus, I already have a seat cover that performs the same function but also protects my car seats. I’ll probably see if I can find someone else who might want this.

Vegalicious Healthy Popped Snacks (1 oz) – Value $2.49

These have pea flour, potato starch, and chickpea flour as the main ingredients. I gave Nyx one of these and she liked it, plus it doesn’t seem to have aggravated her IBD (these are grain free and vegan). So that is wonderful.

Vegalicious Healthy Treat Bar (1.2 oz) – Value $2.99

This is another vegan, grain free treat. The first ingredient is buckwheat flour (buckwheat is not a grain), though, and Nyx has had some issues with buckwheat flour treats in the past, so I’ll be passing this along. For what it’s worth, these are currently in production and available for sale in the same packaging you see here, and the expiration date was far in the future.

Vegalicious Healthy Food Enhancer (1.41 oz) – Value $7.99

This comes in a spice grinder (well, I guess you can see that!) and is vegan, as well. It can be used on wet or dry food and contains a lot of superfoods with antioxidants, fiber, and the like. Because it does not have dairy, meat, fish, or grain, I can try it with Nyx’s food, but I am waiting because I only introduce one new item every couple of days (or weeks) due to her IBD. It is nice to receive something that, theoretically, she can have, though.

From Frank: A Journal – Value $6.78 on Amazon (retail price $14.99)

I get a lot of notebooks and such from subscription boxes, but I’ve never gotten one with cute dog photos before. The cover of this one is really quite sturdy. Not sure what I will use it for yet, but I do like it.

Here is a sample page from inside the journal. There were different dogs on different pages.

Here are some shots of Nyx enjoying one of this month’s toys. Look for Sneaky and Angus, too.

Verdict: I calculated a value of $46.46 for the May Pet Treater dog subscription box. That is a little bit lower than usual, but well above the cost of the box. I am actually fairly happy with this – it has somewhat fewer closeouts and more products that are current from the manufacturers, plus Nyx could actually eat at least one of the types of treats with no trouble. I’d say the mix of items is fairly typical for this subscription.

I always come see reviews of this box to see if it’s gotten any better, and i’m always glad i cancelled. I was really excited about this box when i first heard of it, and signed up when they first started this. Subbed for 3 boxes, and hated every single one of them. Just so disappointed! The way i see it is that for $25 i can go to TJ Maxx and blindly point to the same amount of toys, same amount of treats that come in the box and have it come out to the same price. Or just pick quality items, and snacks that will actually work for my dogs for $25. The only reason i keep coming back to see reviews of it is because i love seeing pictures of the animals! haha Nyx and the kitties are too cute to skip reading the review. 😉
