Fortune Cookie Soap Box - summer 2017

The theme of the Summer Box is "A Pirate's Life For Me!" To be honest, I haven't seen all of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, but the new one looks pretty good! It's definitely got the summer blockbuster vibe, so this theme is perfectly timed! The information booklet lists out all the items, and I love the pirate-inspired names!

Bring Me That Horizon - Fortune Cookie Soap

This month’s namesake soap fades from blue to yellow and features some gold glitter. I always like to display these for a bit, but I loved the scent of this one so much that I started using it right away! The scent is very cool and watery. It feels very beachy, which makes sense because the scent is described as sea mist, water lilies, sand, cactus pear, and desert ghost flowers. My fortune said “I’ve got a jar of dirt!” I always have a cartoonish moment when I first use the soap, because it is really slick, and the shape always leads to me almost dropping it a million times. I like the shape, so I try to keep it as long as possible, but I always end up unfolding it and turning into a big glob at some point.

Calypso - Solid Foot Scrub

This monthly box often includes a few core items and then a variety of other products. This is one of the FCS products I hadn’t tried yet, so I was excited to see this! This scrub looks like a little lump of coal and was much more malleable than I expected! I think I expected something closer to a bath bomb consistency, but this is like a sugary scrub that’s been formed into a loose square. The scent of this was delicious. It was fruity, floral, and sweet. I really loved the juxtaposition of the looks and scents in this box. This scrub smelled like peach blossoms, berries, sugary amber, vanilla musk, and fig. It’s easy to pull apart, and it creates a nice, small lather. The charcoal color becomes a light grayish lavender when it’s mixed with water, and it created a nice exfoliating consistency.

Walk the Plank - OCD Hand Sanitizer

FCS always includes a hand sanitizer. This bottle is the perfect size to keep in a handbag. I appreciate the irony that the sanitizer is a slightly grimy color. As always, the alcohol scent of sanitizer hits me hard and is never that appetizing, but the FCS hand sanitizer scent notes linger nicely. Walk the Plank contains notes of bourbon, sugarcane, pomelo, and dried tobacco with mandarin zest. The bourbon and citrus come through the most for me. I really like that sweet and citrusy scent. It lingers for a while without being too strong.

Black Pearl - Exfoliating Body Wash

Most of the scents in this box mix tropical influences with more masculine scents, as is the case with this body wash. With pineapple, pink pepper, tobacco, suede, peony, and jasmine, this body wash smells like an awesome vacation! I love candles that include tobacco and suede scents, but I don't think I've tried it for bath products before. I really liked the depth it added to the fruity and floral notes. I also loved that the color of the body wash was basically dirt! The booklet describes this body wash as "freedom from smelling like a dirty pirate." That's pretty much how I felt after using this!

Monkey Business - Whipped Cream

I’m always happy to see a whipped cream in the box. The FCS formula is very thick and hydrates my skin nicely. I used this before looking at the booklet and struggled to figure out the scent. I decided on banana bread but with something else on top of that note, and I was pretty close! The scent is lemon, pineapple, and banana almond cake. Artificial banana scent can be awful, but the mixture of this with a sweet bakery tone, as well as citrus notes, works really well!

Mermaid Tears - Shimmer Perfume Oil

This perfume oil looks so pretty in the bottle! The teal blue looks iridescent in the bottle, and it leaves the faintest sheen finish on your skin. This is described as sugar cane and morning dew. There is a sweetness to the scent and morning dew is a great way to describe the fresh, garden scent. This bottle is tiny, so it’s easy to keep with you for touch-ups. I appreciate that because I find that I usually have to reapply a perfume oil once throughout the day. I love the bright color of the Mermaid Tears and the way it stood out against the muted tones of the other items.

Aqua De Vida - Facial Cleansing Oil

This was actually my first time using a facial cleansing oil! The bottle of oil is clear, but the blue color on the bottom spreads with a few shakes of the bottle. The oil smells like coconut and spiced rum. The scent was pretty, but if I were to invest in a big bottle of cleansing oil for everyday use, I might go for an unscented option. For a small sample though, I really liked the scent. I followed the instructions from the Fortune Cookie Soap website. I put a few drops in my hands, rubbed it between my hands, then applied it to my face. My original concern was that this would feel too oily, but it didn’t feel too different from other face washes I use. It felt like it partially absorbed into my skin, and after I rinsed it off, I felt really moisturized. The scent lingered for a while, and my skin felt really smooth!

Parlay - Lip Scrub

This lip scrub smells of lime and coconut, which is perfect for the pirate theme. The lime scent is pretty strong, and it’s a nice contrast to the sweet sugar and coconut flavors. I put a thin layer on my lips, and it was hard to stop myself from eating it. This is vegan, so that is an option! I rubbed this around for a bit, then wiped/licked it off. This scrub exfoliated my lips nicely. I barely made a dent in the little tub, so I feel like this could last me a little while. I liked the green sugar added on top of the scrub, too. It added a nice tropical touch!

This box also included a cute bonus item: a pirate coin!

Verdict: The Fortune Cookie Soap Box is always such a treat! I know that I love the products that are regularly included in the box (hand sanitizer, whipped cream, etc.), but I’ve really lucked out with the new products! I really enjoyed trying out the facial cleansing oil and foot scrub this month! The pirate theme is perfect for summer, and as always, the scents they included were delicious!

After the last quarterly box this year (winter’s) FCS has decided to merge their quarterly subscription with their monthly subscription.

Their monthly subscription boxes go out the 10th of every month (and auto bill every 9th if you are subscribed, unless you manually skip a month). Each month has a fun theme. Like Jan2018 is Princess vs Villains, Feb2018 is Unicorns.

There will be 4 of the monthly boxes reserved for representing their seasonal collections, like these quarterly boxes did. So if all you want is the boxes for the seasonal collections you can easily skip all other months but those.

You can read more about FCS’s monthly boxes here: https://www.fortunecookiesoap.com/products/fcs-of-the-month-club-1

If you are on Facebook you can join FCS’s official fan group and VIP groups to stay up to date.

Shannon (one of the owners of FCS) posted more info on when the seasonal themed monthly boxes will be released in 2018 in this FB post in the VIP group (I believe you have to join the group to see it): https://m.facebook.com/groups/440104956188448?view=permalink&id=731449070387367

I love this box. I got it about a month ago, wanted to reorder products but they were all sold out ….

Check the monthly calendar on their site and make sure you’re on the mailing list, and also join the VIP and fan groups on Facebook. They will do a restock at least once after the release (they will let you know the day and time in advance) – but you have to go fast. Some restock items sell out instantly, and others may not stay online more than a day or two before selling out. A few times a year they also do “CYO” events (“create your own”) and you can have perfume oil, body whipped cream, body wash, etc., custom-blended or replicated for past scents.

Both the restock and the CYO event are taking place in June, actually. Of course the less people who know about FSC, the better for me :p it’s already hard enough to snag everything I want during launch parties.

Thank you for the information

Holy crap that is so cute! Why have I not heard of this box before?

Thank God it’s sold out so I can stick to my budget this month.

This is actually a sampler type box, giving the people subscribed to it an earlier preview of the collection that will be released for the entire summer. They’ve gotten pretty popular so a lot of items are sold out, but you can find the full-size full range of products with these scents on their website.
This box is only quarterly – to coincide with the seasonal collections, but they’ve also recently started a monthly box that contains themed, full-size products.

I got this one too and I liked everything except the black pearl body wash scent. I think the monkey business one is one of my favorites and would pair well with the Leonor greyl conditioner from the last oui please box.

This was my first box from them and I’m kind of obsessed! I’m not sure about the monthly box, I don’t necessarily want 9 hair products in one month. I could see grabbing maybe a house themed box, definitely sticking with their quarterly one though.

Well, their monthly boxes so far have only contained 7 full-size products. FCS already has a range of hair products that might be featured in the hair box like liquid &/or solid shampoo & conditioner, deep conditioner, leave-in conditioner, sea-salt spray. & They’ve been adding brand new products to the monthly boxes as well. But I can see why some may think 7 products all for hair may be a bit much 🙂
