Yum Earth Organic Sour Twists, 0.7 oz
We don't regularly keep snack food and candy in the house, so when I see candy or chocolate in a box I almost always go straight for it. I used to think I hated sour candy but I'm really coming around to it, and these were delicious!
I've really enjoyed all the snacks I've gotten so far in this box, too. These are mostly sugar to be fair, but the ingredients are all organic and there is no corn syrup.
Watermelon + lemonade was a delicious combo and definitely has me feeling warm thoughts about the summer days ahead.
Organic Fiji Face & Body Lotion, Pineapple Coconut, 3 oz - Value $10
This lotion is made in the US from primarily coconut oil and has a very summery piña colada scent! I am really not a fan of scented lotions (especially on my face), and this one was pretty strong, but the formula itself was great - very moisturizing and quick to absorb.
Previse Marine Granules Exfoliating Mousse, 2 fl oz - Retail $45
My sensitive skin hasn't always done well with scrubs. I liked the last Previse product I received from this box, though, so I was happy to give this one a shot. They really hold up to their zero-fragrance promise and this product was absolutely and completely odorless.
Even though the ingredients in Previse products sometimes fall into the "how do I pronounce this?" category, they do a good job of explaining them all on their website, with clear reasons why each ingredient is there. Diatomaceous earth ("fossilized algae") is the exfoliant in this product, which I thought was a nice natural alternative to micro beads.
My face did feel smoother and brighter after using this, as you'd expect. So far I've had no adverse reaction and plan to keep using it, but just once or twice a week for my skin type. This should last a long time at that rate!
Z Skin SPF 45 Organic Sunblock, 2 oz - Retail $18.95
I apply sunblock every day, but I also love to have extras to tote around in case we're outside all day. This formula is interesting - it's a lot less opaque than I'd expect a zinc-based sunblock to be and goes on a lot more like a coconut oil lotion. The fragrance is nothing like any other sunblock I've tried and is pleasantly minty and fruity.
The ingredient list for this product seems really vague though (are those oils? juices? raw fruits?), so I'll admit, I'm pretty skeptical. It absorbed way easier than I'd expect a sunblock to go on. I do really, really like the idea of adding citronella so it doubles as some insect protection, though. Combo sunblock + bug repellent is something I truly need in my life!
I haven't worn it out in the sun for very long to really test out how effective it is, but I'll definitely report back when I do. If it performs well, this may actually be my go-to choice for sun protection this summer because of how easily it went on (with the insect repellent benefit a close second).
Visha Mommy Bright Eye Booster 4-in-1, 0.25 oz sample - Value $22.50?
This small sample pot is from another brand previously featured in Ecocentric Mom, Visha.
They suggest using this not just around your eyes but also around your upper lip and mouth.
For me, the difference wasn't as dramatic as when I tried the Visha Advanced Bright Eye Booster (which contains caffeine), but it felt nice and cool going on and made me realize that I probably neglect how much moisture these areas really need. This is a nice sized sample so I should be able to keep using it and see if I notice a difference over time.
Basil Seeds from SeedsNow.com - Retail $1.99
Our last item is a small one, but one that is totally usable: Basil seeds! I always pick up some fresh herbs for potting on our porch during the spring, and it's one of my favorite things about cooking in the summer - just walk outside and grab some extra flavor!
Plus a bonus $5 coupon is always good in my book.
Verdict: This box always seems to have a really high value: this month, the May Ecocentric Mom box contains around $98 of product! If you're on the lookout for more natural products to incorporate into your daily routine, this box is worth checking out: for me, there's always at least one or two items over the cost of the price of the box that I end up really liking, and the rest is just icing on the cake.
