Animal Jam May 2017 Subscription Box: Birds & Butterflies Spring Nature Guide booklet with purple own on the cover

Birds & Butterflies Spring Nature Guide

So I actually spent some time playing Animal Jam in preparation for this review (totally had some flashbacks of growing up with Neopets and Zoobooks). My little bunny is named Cranky Famousartist and I'm not too proud to admit that I had a good chuckle about that.

It's an educational game and there are little facts about different animals sprinkled throughout as you explore the virtual world. This nature guide is like an offline version of that, which is super cool:

The center page is a pull out mini poster!

There's even a quiz and stickers included.

Animal Jam May 2017 Subscription Box: Blue and white raglan tee size 10/12 with "Explorer" Animal Jam graphic

Explorer Raglan Tee

(When you subscribe, you'll give your child's shirt and shoe sizes.)

This design is cute for spring! The image is more of a decal (not a screenprint), so the colors are really rich and the detail is very sharp.

Toucan Charm

When you subscribe, your first box will contain a charm bracelet, then each box after has a new charm that you can collect and add on to build out your collection! I'm sure these are great fun to trade with friends, too, or use as zipper pulls etc.

8-Panel Umbrella

You can never have too many umbrellas in my opinion! The clear design with the character print is a fun way to have a little animal hunt outside on a rainy day, there are lots of different creatures to check out.

This kit comes with everything you need except the hammer. Adult supervision definitely required!

Once you have the birdhouse assembled, you can lift the roof to fill with seed and hang from the small chain:

The finished birdhouse is on the small side, but it's a great design for kids, and I love that they included an interactive project like this in the box. I know my son is going to be thrilled to fill this up and hang it on the porch so he can watch for birds this summer!

Binoculars

I loved binoculars as a kid and I think these are a super fun addition to this box, perfect for keeping a lookout on your new bird feeder or just toting on your next trip to the park. The strap is a little cheap but these are otherwise really well made for a toy, so I feel like they will actually survive multiple summers.

Each Animal Jam box also comes with a game code that you can redeem online for special items - ours was sneakily hidden as the tag attached to the binoculars this month!

Verdict: For $31 a quarter ($25 + $6 shipping), this feels like a great box for kids who are fans of this game. I like that this month had some items that are designed to help get kids outside and connect to nature in real life and out of the game world!
