The theme for March 2017 is Totoro!
The box came with a little magazine listing all the items included. There is 5 items total.
It also included a page dedicated to the Ghibli Museum which I need to visit someday!
Shinada Fukurairai Plush
This month we get another Shinada plush and there were 6 variations available. The booklet says these are meant to bring you good luck and mine definitely brings me happiness so good luck would be an added bonus! I received the cat and the bottom is slightly weighted so he can sit up easily. Each plush has their eyes closed in meditation. The cat also has a little bell around his neck with infuriates/delights my real cat.
Totoro 3D Jigsaw Puzzle - 9 Pieces
This jigsaw puzzle has nine pieces which, as far as jigsaw puzzles go, is pretty easy! Each translucent white mini Totoro is made of three pieces. You can then display them all separately or fit all three together. FYI - If you try to display them separately, the top figure isn’t able to balance on its own so only the bottom two can really stand on their own. I like displaying them stacked together and this is a great little figure to put on your desk.
The mini Totoro figures are cute from every angle!
For a small figure, this also has a nice weight to it.
Totoro Hand Towel
There were five possible variations of this Totoro towel. They were all cute and I really love the one I received. The textured design is nice and the towel has a decent thickness. I love displaying this in my bathroom! The towel has an “Approved by Ghibli” sticker and it’s always nice to see the confirmation of authenticated merchandise in this box.
Totoro Washi Origami Paper
This origami set comes with 20 sheets of spring themed Totoro prints. The info booklet included a simple tutorial for an origami box that’s great for some practice. I’m still not doing great with my origami but this tutorial is much easier to practice with than the other Tortoro tutorial below. I tried the box instructions on a couple pieces of this printed paper but I’ve switched to plain paper so I can get better at it and then switch over to the pretty paper! I’ve also stashed a few pieces away for scrapbooking and little notes.
Here’s a look at the designs included:
My Neighbor Totoro Origami Kit
This origami kit comes with material and instructions for 3 Totoros, Catbus & the Kusakabe house. This comes with detailed instructions which are in Japanese but it’s easy to follow the visuals and English instructions are available online. Each size included multiple sheets which is good because I definitely need practice. I haven’t attempted origami in a long time so this was a test in patience and instruction following - I was just ok with both. 🙂 But I like that this has a lot of practice sheets you can go through before you finish the Totoro scene.
Verdict: It was really fun to have a Totoro themed box! My favorite Miyazaki film is Howl’s Moving Castle so I hope we get more Ghibli items in the future! I really enjoyed the hand towel and Totoro Puzzle. While I wasn’t very good at origami, it was fun to learn and the assortment of paper was really adorable. I appreciate that they included a nice amount of sheets that can be used for other things. The only item that wasn’t part of the theme was the plushie but YumeTwins always includes a Shinada plush which is always cute. I think this box would have been 100% perfect if they had included a Totoro plush.
