Surprise Pawty is a monthly subscription box for dogs.  Choose a box for tiny (<10 pounds), small (10-30 pounds), medium (30-50 pounds), or large (50+ pounds) dogs. My dog Nyx is an 86-pound Rottweiler and this is a review of the “large” dog box.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

There was an information card detailing the items in the box – this month had a St. Patrick’s Day theme.

Earth Rated Dog Waste Bags (1 roll) – Value $0.75

We get a lot of these in dog subscription boxes but they are something we will always be able to use. Nyx is able to walk a bit more (her knees are way better now) and of course the neighbors don’t want her leaving anything behind…

Dog Bone Shaped Carabiner Clip – Value $0.54

In your first box, you’ll get one of these clips. I have a dog waste bag holder with a loop so I think I will try to use this to attach the holder to my key chain or something so that I always remember the bags when I leave the house. (I don’t know if what I linked to is the exact same item, but it is quite similar.)

LOQI Dog Woof Bag – Value $10.95

This tote folds up and fits in the little pouch (the little pouch is not attached). I am not very good at folding it up compactly yet but I will get there. This is so small and lightweight that it will go in my purse for emergency trips to Whole Foods (it’s on the way home from work so that’s where I stop to pick up things we’ve forgotten).

Petrageous Thinkrageous Treat Bank – Listed Value $13

Nyx doesn’t understand treat banks because she can’t have many treats at a time and she can’t eat kibble, but as far as she is concerned, a new rubber toy is also pretty great. This is size-appropriate for an 86-pound dog, too. (This is a new toy to market and I can’t find it for retail sale so I took the value from the information card.)

Bow Wow Pet Horseshoe Rope Toy – Listed Value $13

Nyx LOVES rope toys. I never get good pictures because she is always tugging and snarling at the ropes. But this does seem to be pretty sturdy so far and she is enjoying it. (Bow Wow Pet products show up in subscription boxes fairly often but are hard to find for sale online so again, the value is from the information card.)

surprise-pawty-march-2017-treats

Amelia and Holly’s Kiss Me, Canine Treats (6 oz) – Value $12 (buy a 4 oz bag for $8 from Amelia and Holly's Treats)

The main ingredient here is chickpea flour. In fact, these are vegan and grain free and don’t have any of Nyx’s long list of triggering ingredients. (Surprise Pawty promises to work with you to provide treats your dog can have, even with food allergies and intolerances.) Nyx was over the moon excited to try these (see below).

Flavorit Nylon Bone in Mint (for dogs over 50 pounds) – Value $9.99

We get a lot of Flavorit bones but that is OK. Nyx loves them (and they make for great pictures). This one is mint and I am hoping it will ultimately freshen her breath, which has been a little stinky lately. So far, so good.

Below is a photo of something you are not going to get to see very often, but Nyx actually could have this treat so I gave her one. If she doesn’t have any digestive issues (she has inflammatory bowel disease) she’ll get more. She was SO HAPPY to get it so I am crossing my fingers for her.

And of course your obligatory Angus photobomb…

Verdict: I calculated a value of $60.23 for this month’s Surprise Pawty. That is right in line with the value from the information card and is about 50% above the cost of the box plus shipping on a month-to-month basis. The toys were all appropriate for a dog like Nyx (plus she loved them) and she could even eat the treats, which is a rarity. This was a really great month for us from Surprise Pawty!

Kinda off topic but my family and I always put a few reusable shopping bags in each car for those emergency grocery trips.
And the doggy poo bag, we tie some to the leash and replace it when we get home if we end up using them.

Nyx is so cute. Is seems like Angus knows when the camera is out and needs to get in there. Hope the treats work for Nyx.
