The information booklet has a really simple design. March 2017 is volume 2 of this subscription.

The theme for March is Skincare Essentials!

Each page features a different product and explanation. I really like the minimal, sleek look of the information booklet.

Shiseido Senka Perfect Whip N Face Wash - Value $6.99

This popular face wash features two types of hyaluronic acid and silk essence. This didn’t foam up as much as I expected but it did create a nice, small lather. It seems like you could work it into a larger lather with some work. The lather did feel silky and I was impressed with how my skin felt after I washed my face. It felt clean and really smooth, almost like I had applied a primer. This was a really nice cleanser and helped remove some of my makeup, although I still needed to use a heavy duty remover for my eye makeup. A tiny sample of Shiseido Senka Perfect Essence Silky Moisture was also included. This toner/lotion delivered a lot of hydration and paired nicely with the face wash.

Dotfree Deep Clay Mask - Value $8.23

I’ve tried various clay and charcoal masks before so I was excited for this. This mask contains 3 types of clay, charcoal, aha fruit, and collagen. This is supposed to remove impurities while moisturizing your skin. The look and feel of the mask is similar to watery mud. The first time I used this mask I definitely globbed on too much product so the second time I tried it, I made a conscious effort to spread a really thin but even layer. The packaging call this a “Peeling Clay” mask which made me think this would dry and peel off which isn’t the case. This stays pretty moist the whole time (suggested use time is 3-5 minutes) and it rubs off easily with warm water. I used this on its own the first time which left my skin feeling smooth and slightly taut but when I used it after the Shiseido Senka face wash my skin felt really clean and smooth.

Derizum Moisture Veil Skin Cream - Value $15

This skin cream comes out pretty thick and almost felt like a balm to me. This contains 15 types of amino acid, ceramide, hyaluronic acid, and dan-na. This is supposed to help with hydration and anti-aging. It took me a little while to rub it all in but once I did it left my skin feeling really silky. The is supposed to be good for sensitive and dry skin. My skin isn’t too sensitive but it has been really dry lately and a couple days of this cream did help the patchier spots on my face. I really like this as a final step to a nighttime routine.

Melon All-In-One Gel - Value $10

I wasn’t quite sure what to make of this product at first. I love the adorable packaging and wish all of my products looked like cute fruit! When you pop open the top all you can smell is sweet melon. I really loved the scent of this. The consistency of the product inside is a little like Jello and felt a little weird. This does break down into a watery consistency when you apply it to your face so that Jello sensation doesn’t last too long! The booklet describes this as an all-in-one: toner, moisturizer, essence, and makeup base. I love the thought of one product doing a bunch of things but I’m also a little skeptical. I’ve been looking into some longer multi-use-step skincare routines lately but haven’t taken the plunge yet so I’m not sure if breaking down toner, moisturizer, and essence is essential. This felt very cooling on my skin. It felt really tacky while it was drying but once it fully absorbed my skin felt super smooth. I like this as a quick morning product and it did provide a decent makeup base once it was totally dry.

Menturm Lip Dress Pearl Beige - Value $3.15

This is the only item that isn’t an obvious skincare essential. This is an unscented lip cream with SPF 12 and a pale beige color. It’s a nice lip balm with jojoba oil and shea butter. I didn’t find this extremely hydrating so I don’t think I would use this as a treatment for chapped lips but it is nice to have a balm with SPF on hand.

The "color" is more like an extremely pale shimmer but it adds a nice little sheen to your lips.

Verdict: I really enjoyed the “Skincare Essentials” box. It was nice to be able to use each product together and actually cover the majority of my skincare needs. Each product was new to me and the full-size items will last me a while. It was a little difficult for me to find all the items online but my general estimate was around $44 (this could vary depending on the availability of these items in your area). That feels like a good value for a $29 box.

Sarah, I’m curious about your tat! What does the symbol represent 🙂 if that’s not too personal?

Sarah

Not too personal! I’ve spent the majority of my life in Pennsylvania (The “Keystone State”) between Pittsburgh and Philly. When I moved to the west coast for a couple years, a friend and I got keystone tattoos to keep a piece of PA with us 🙂

I was so excited about nmnl when it debuted, but so far the boxes have been meh. Where’s the color?

I think it’s alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) from fruit, not a fruit called aha.

Your aha moment for the day.

Victoria is right – where’s the make(up)?
