I ordered a custom fragrance after doing the test kit. First, the test kit…

Dea is correct that the basic scents they send in the test kit are one possibility on each basic scent. I had 1 “love” (citrus), 3 “likes,” and 2 “no ways.” I had fun trying the 6 scents in the test kit. They are adorable tiny rollerballs that are in the test kit. I figured with 4 scents they can choose from, I had a decent shot at a good custom scent.

Now, for the custom scent…

Their first try was not very good. It was too woodsy &/or musky. Even after the fragrance “settled,” it was still not something I really liked. I think it MIGHT by okay for a winter fragrance, so I am keeping it to try it again in about 7 months. Also, my scent preference might shift by then. Anyway, one of my “no ways” was woods. I don’t understand why that was in my custom fragrance!

Scent Truck stands by their custom fragrances, so I could request another fragrance at no cost since I didn’t like the one they sent. What I did was, I sent them an email with details about what I didn’t like about the fragrance and I listed 2 of my current favorite fragrances to “guide” them in a better direction. They wrote back the next day saying they will gladly send out another scent. And, the new scent has already shipped and I haven’t been charged for it (yet)!

If they charge me in the next few days, I’ll post again. I’ll post again after I get my new custom fragrance.

I received my second custom scent 2 days ago. It didn’t like that one either. It was a bit better than the first, but I just don’t like either of the first 2 scents. Both fragrances are so heavy with woodsy & chypre scent that I don’t like them. I can’t smell any of the citrus or aromatic scents the I loved because I like bright, fresh scents. There was nothing bright or fresh about the second scent, in my opinion.

So, I didn’t like either of the first 2 custom scents and they charged me for both even though I contacted them after receiving the first one saying I didn’t like the first one.

I contacted them again, to cancel the subscription. Then, they said they would credit my account if I let them try again. I might let them try one more time. The first 2 scents were so far off from what I like, I don’t have much hope for a third. If I go for the third, I’ll post how it turns out.

My husband had scent trunk and really enjoyed it, and looked forward to receiving it each month. When they switched to the new model, his account was cancelled with no communication. He was super bummed and chose not to sign back up.

I did that scent test for $4.95 last week. Of the six basic scents, I had three likes and three dislikes (no loves at all). They claim that they can craft something for me out of that, but it still sounds like it would be a huge possible range within these parameters – a huge gamble. I didn’t go ahead and request such a custom crafting for $11.99. Too gun-shy yet. The “floral” test roll-on, for example, was only one floral scent. That doesn’t really say anything – I love gardenia, like tuberose, and can’t stand freesia. But they are all floral scents.

All online reviews are of the test kit for $4.95 – none of those bloggers went ahead and ordered the custom blend.

Hey I’m Will, co-founder at Scent Trunk! You’re right, the kit isn’t meant to narrow down too precisely because we want to make sure we can still be creative. The kit gives us an understanding of the scents you gravitate towards, so we know which direction to go.

It’s not a big risk though – if you find that you don’t like what we send, we’ll try again – on us!

I’ve been trying to rate the boxes that I receive using an iPad. After I put in the ratings, the pop up of the ratings just sits there and I have to get off the page to move on. Not sure that my ratings are entered or not.

I’ve been trying on my desktop, but no ratings options show up. Rather, I continue to see the message “This content cannot be displayed in a frame” in the heading along with more text below that.
