Miroja is a subscription box that focuses on minimalist design and plants! They have several different subscription options, and I am reviewing the Small Surprise Gift Box - it includes one plant and one home item.

Miroja-april-2017-0002

This box contains a plant and breakable item so I'm glad it is well packaged. Because this subscription includes a live plant, always open it as soon as it arrives!

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

The box includes a card that tells you where you are in your subscription with information on how to care for your new plant. It also describes the included planter and extra gift.

Now, onto the items!

Concrete Dish Vase - Value $15?

This little white concrete planter is perfect for air plants which don't need soil. The dish is shallow so that plants can just rest inside. I love the dots made by tiny air bubbles in the concrete. It is super light weight and could be used as a ring dish or incense holder if your air plant doesn't survive!

The bottom of the planter has a cork disc attached so that the concrete won't scratch surfaces. The dashed line around the cork adds a design surprise and makes the disc feel like an intentional detail rather than a last minute addition.

Air Plants

Miroja included 2 air plants in this month's box. The included instructions say to submerge the plants in room temperature water for 10 minutes when you take them out of the box. After that, they should only need to be submerged like this every 3-4 weeks, depending on how dry your environment is. Air plants don't root in soil, they bring in moisture from their leaves.

Here's a closer look at the long thick blades on the larger of the two plants.

This is the smaller plant. You can see the tiny hairs on the plant that help it absorb moisture and nutrients from the air.

Air plants are the easiest plants to plant because you just rest them in a dish and they're ready to go! So pretty and simple.

Foliage Gift Tags - Value $7

In addition to a plant and planter, this box includes a home or gift item. This month they included round kraft paper gift tags packaged in a drawstring pouch.

Miroja-april-2017-0007

This is such a nice set of tags decorated with white ink printed kraft paper. The plant design works so well with the theme of this subscription and I love the simplicity. These would work well on a gift for just about anyone and would be so cute for all the baby showers I find myself attending lately! It's so nice that these are stickers because I won't have to worry about finding tape or string to attach them to a gift.

Verdict: This box cost $29.99, which is worth it for me because I love ceramics and tiny vessels of all kinds. Our home gets a lot of light and I am finally able to keep plants alive! I think plants add an essential and polished touch to any home so I recommend this subscription for anyone who wants to add a touch of greenery to their home. If you like to shop for succulents and plants on your own, you will find them cheaper elsewhere but this subscription's value lies in the curation and feeling of sending yourself a gift every month.

I’ve kept some air plants alive, somehow, for a little over a year. My husband assumed for the longest time that they were silk, until he pinched the tip of one off.

After keeping some air plants alive for 6+ months (finally!), including some that look just like those, I would suggest the following:

(1) Submerge them for a few minutes weekly, not monthly.

(2) Monthly, spray with an air plant fertilizer after watering (you can buy these fertilizers on Amazon).

(3) Keep them in a room with a humidifier (a real humidifier, not one of those little essential oil diffusers).

Light seems less important for these.

Whoa, 6 months? That’s great. I’ve had them for that long before but I think they were dead but still passed for kind of alive so I kept them around. Thank you for the tips – these sound much more thorough!

I love the review of this box! It’s the price that holds me back

Agree.. It’s beautiful, but not for $30. This looks like a $10 or $15 box to me.
