The theme for April is Earth Day! Very appropriate for an eco-friendly box.

The products this month aren't listed on the info card; you have to visit the website to see all the details.

Happy Baby Banana, Plum, Sweet Potato, and Oats Pouch (128 mL) - Value $1.79 (available on Amazon in a case of 8 for $19.58)

(I couldn't find individual packets available online, but this brand usually retails for around $1.79/each at our local Target.)

I'm always happy to get snacks in subscription boxes, even if they are for my kid. My son is 2 and he still really enjoys these kinds of fruit pouches and they are a regular snack for us.

I love that Happy Baby brand is all organic and they have some interesting flavor combinations, like this one! Unfortunately, it wasn't a hit with him; he took one sip and then handed it back to me and said "Take away!"

ecocentric-mom-and-baby-april-2017-mouthwash

Dr Brite Cleansing Mouth Rinse with Vitamin C, 3.4 fl oz Travel Size - Value $6

(My first photo was blurry so I had to reshoot this after I had sampled it - you can see in the next photo that this arrived full to the top!)

I've used natural mouthwashes intermittently before and have never really been impressed. I actually liked this formula though, and it didn't bother my sensitive teeth. It didn't have much of a bite and left my mouth feeling very fresh.

I also love that this is a women-owned company, in addition to being non-GMO, vegan, and cruelty-free. I'm curious to keep using this and see if I notice any of the promised whitening effect.

2 South of France French Milled Soaps, 1.5 oz - Total Value $2.12

I swear my mom used to have this exact brand in our powder room at home growing up. I don't usually think of these little paper-wrapped soaps as eco-friendly, but the ingredients are fairly simple. I guess my mom is an OG ecocentric mom! 😉

We received two - an Almond Gourmand and Wild Climbing Rose.

They smell amazing, too! I don't usually love rose on anything except actual flowers, but I'm loving this for spring. Nice hand soaps are truly one of life's little luxuries and I'm always happy to have more on hand.

ecocentric-mom-and-baby-april-2017-coconut-hair-mask

St Topica Coconut Hot Oil Hair Mask, 1.5 oz - Value $5 (Buy a pack of 3 for $15 on Amazon)

I was surprised how solid this felt in the pouch! The instructions indicate you can heat this hot oil treatment in the microwave, but knowing how easy coconut oil 'melts', I'd probably just let it heat up in a hot shower. You need to leave this on for a minimum of 20 minutes, but they recommend overnight.

I'm not a huge fan of hair masks because they tend to weigh down my fine hair too much for my liking. Luckily my husband has coarse curly hair and has found they work really well, so he gets to enjoy this one (provided it's not too fragranced for his liking).

This product does have 4.5 stars on Amazon, too, with lots of people saying it's great for their dry and damaged hair. I also love that this product is organic and cruelty-free and uses relatively simple ingredients.

ecocentric-mom-and-baby-april-2017-salve

Previse Skin Ointment Salve, 1.5 fl oz - Value $37

I am sensitive to fragrance so I always appreciate a new non-scented product to try. The consistency reminded me a bit of the Honest Company Healing Balm; it comes out thick but warms and spreads quickly. This is a non-lanolin product and is safe for use while breastfeeding, and contains alpha bisabolol:

Alpha Bisabolol is a potent extract from German Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla or Matricaria recutita). Alpha Bisabolol help prevent skin irritation while protecting the skin from everyday damage. Unlike petroleum and lanolin, Alpha Bisabolol has been shown to help promote our skin’s natural healing process while fighting the signs of aging with antioxidant benefits.

Luckily as the weather warms up, my dry winter skin is clearing up, so I can't say if this product is really effective or not. It's definitely scentless and massaged into my hands easily, and a little goes a long way.

ecocentric-mom-and-baby-april-2017-parakito

There was a curious little envelope from Para'Kito in our box, too:

ecocentric-mom-and-baby-april-2017-mosquito-repellent2

4 single use Para'Kito Mosquito Repellent wipes - Total Value $4

I am so happy to have these - I need to find a good natural bug repellent this summer!

Mosquitos are fairly common near our house thanks to a wooded area nearby that is a bit damp. It's supposed to be a bad year for ticks here in the northeast, and I've heard that some essential oils can help with ticks too - I'm curious if this might happen to be a good solution for both kinds of insects.

ecocentric-mom-and-baby-april-2017-mosquito-repellent

You can see here the active ingredients are oils: citronella oil, mint oil, clove oil, rosemary oil, geranium oil, and peppermint oil.

I pricked a tiny hole in one packet so I could smell it -- it smells very strongly of citronella, but I could still smell the mint and even the geranium a bit. This smells a lot better to me than the last bug spray I used, so I can't wait to test this out and see if it actually works.

These also don't expire for a full year, which is great!

ecocentric-mom-and-baby-april-2017-reusable-snack-bags

2 "Snack Happens" Reusable Snack & Everything Bags from ItzyRitzy - Total Value $19.98

Reusable snack bags are something I've always meant to try, but haven't! So I was pretty excited to see these in my box. They can be hand or machine washed and line dried. (Ecocentric Mom notes that parents with younger babies received one larger sized "Travel Happens" bag instead of two sandwich sized snack bags.)

The fox and whale patterns are cute and the bags are a good size too, about 7" square: big enough for a sandwich or a generous handful of pretzels. I probably won't put anything too wet/messy inside (like a PB&J), but for goldfish crackers and such, these are perfect.

ecocentric-mom-and-baby-april-2017-snack-bag-prints

My son just learned how to zip and unzip (a new skill he has been using a lot lately on our couch cushions, much to my chagrin). These should be great to bring a snack along in the car.

ecocentric-mom-and-baby-april-2017-snack-bag-detail

The inside of these bags is a thick, wipeable vinyl-like material made of PUL. Polyester Urethane Laminate is a fabric coated with polyurethane, similar to oilcloth, and these bags are BPA-free, PVC-free, and lead-free - all things I personally try to avoid for when buying fake leather products like handbags, shoes, or even shower curtain liners.

ecocentric-mom-and-baby-april-2017-coupons

Finally, we got a few coupons for St Tropica and Happy Baby, too!

Verdict: The April Ecocentric Mom Mom & Baby Box has an overall value of about $76 - that's three times the cost of the box! Even without a couple of the items being a home-run for me, I think Ecocentric Mom is overall a low-risk subscription for trying new eco-friendly, safe, and green products for yourself and your family. I always find something new I didn't even know I needed, and in this case, I feel like everything this month is actually useful to me and not just filler.
