The Story Box is a monthly subscription box that sends children’s books. Every month they send out two books that have been curated by a speech-language pathologist.
They have packages appropriate for ages 0-2.5 (which comes with a monthly tip card for parents) and 2.5 -6 (which comes with a parent guide), or a family package for families with kids in both age groups (and comes with a tip card and parent guide).
The Story Box also has a charitable giving program:
A portion of each subscription fee is used to purchase and donate materials to benefit children with disabilities and children from low-income families. Usually, donations consist of books. Occasionally, we also donate toys and other education items that can be used to facilitate communication and literacy skills. Materials are donated to nonprofit organizations, charitable organizations, and professionals that serve our target recipients.

The Story Box always sends an info card with a reading challenge. This month, they encourage you to use prepositional phrases when reading or playing simple games. My son is almost 23 months now, and he's really been using lots of prepositional phrases in the last couple of weeks: "Plane up in the sky!" and "Jump on bed!" are two of his favorites.

Our first book this month is a simple and cute peekaboo flap book with a winter theme.
I love these kind of question/answer books! Each page reveals a different winter habitat animal doing something different.
This definitely skews a bit young for my almost-two-year-old, but he still really enjoyed it and wanted to read it over and over. We'll probably pass it on to his younger nephew before long.
The great thing about this age though is that he likes to play with books on his own and "read" to himself, and this book is perfect for that - he loves playing with flaps! This was also a fun book to learn some new animal sounds like wolves howling.
Winter by Ailie Busby – Value $4.63 on Amazon (retail price $4.99)
Another winter themed book! I honestly keep forgetting it's still February with all the 70 degree days we've been having.
I love the whimsical illustrations in this one, especially the cute dogs and all the details in the kids' clothing!
This book has a lot going on on every page - after reading it through once, we enjoyed going through each page and talking about all the different things we could see, and what the kids and animals were doing.
We've returned to both of these books several times already, so I'm sure they'll get lots of use this month and beyond.
Verdict: The February The Story Box board box was a hit with my toddler! We love our selections this month. I wish I had started receiving this box when he was younger because I find the challenges to be thoughtful and really helpful in finding new ways to read and play. Value-wise, this subscription is a little light if you look at just the price of the books, but I love that The Story Box donates to charity, and (for me) that fact plus the monthly challenges make it worthwhile.
