Rescue Box is a subscription box for dogs or cats. For dogs, choose from small (up to 20 pounds), medium (20-50 pounds), and large (50+ pounds). They are associated with Greater Good (the folks who brought you The Hunger Site, The Animal Rescue Site, and more) and your purchase of a subscription will help provide food and vaccines to shelter pets!

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

This review is of the Large Dog, $29.95 a month, box. For reference, my dog Nyx is an 86-pound Rottweiler.

Included was an information card with more information about the items in the box and more information on The Rescue Box’s charity efforts. There was also a card this month highlighting the monthly theme.

Petsport Mint Tuff Balls (spearmint, 2 pack) – Value $2.57

Nyx loves tennis balls. These are supposed to freshen breath.  I can’t say I’ve noticed breath freshening yet, but I’d be thrilled if it works eventually – Nyx could use some breath freshening and the dog toothpaste I tried on her didn’t work out so well for us. (I found a lot of these at discounted prices. I think sellers are trying to clear out stock in old packaging. The MSRP is around $5, from what I can tell.)

Loving Pets Natural Value Chicken Sausage Links (1 oz) – Value $6.25

These seem to be kind of pricey for a 1-ounce bag of treats. At any rate, these are made from natural ingredients and made in the USA (so important for treats). They are also corn and soy free so they may work for some dogs with allergies or food sensitivities.

Buddy’s 100% All Natural 10” Beef Tendon (6 oz) – Value $16.50

Every month it seems I get a new cow part in a dog subscription box. I guess it is good that they are really trying to use the whole animal! At any rate, tendons, being connective tissue, are rich in minerals and things like glucosamine and chondroitin that should help with joint health. Plus, these are made in the USA.

Zippy Paws Jigglerz Dog Toy – Value $11.99

We get a lot of ZippyPaws toys in dog subscription boxes but Nyx always loves them and they are quite well-made. After one evening with Nyx, this still has all its limbs (it is stuffing free). It squeaks when it shakes and when it is bitten and I had to take it away from Nyx after five minutes because the noise was incessant. She sure had fun with it, though!

Peeps Bunny Shaped Dog Treats (3 oz) – Value $14?

I can’t find these for sale currently but I found this site, which listed an MSRP. These are perfect for Easter. They contain dairy in the frosting part but are otherwise free of animal proteins. They do contain some grains and peanut ingredients. These are also made in the USA and are officially licensed by Peeps, from what I can tell.

Here are some pictures of Nyx with the rabbit toy. I am going to wear earplugs next time I give this to her. She did not stop squeaking it the entire time she had it. (Also, Angus photobomb…)

Verdict: I calculated a value of $51.31 for March’s Rescue Box. That is a good deal on a dog subscription box, especially when they don’t make their own items like Barkbox does. The Easter theme was fun (good to not get another St. Patrick’s themed box…) and the toys were big hits. Overall this was a pretty good month for us from Rescue Box!
