Purr Packs is a monthly subscription box for cats. You can choose from several different subscription tiers, with customization offered for higher tiers (for example, you can exclude certain protein sources in treats).

Good to know: There are now shipping charges of $4.95 in the U.S. Subscribers at the time of this change (like me) are grandfathered into the free shipping plan. Instead of a traditional information card, there was a card with a URL where you can find out more about the items in the box.

purr-packs-march-2017-catnip

Mylar Bird? – Value $1.43

I'm not sure of a brand name here. Various cats liked this one. Sneaky chewed on it a bit. I’ve linked to what I think is the same item up above.

Categories Go Fish (pressed catnip) – Value $3.99

Pressed catnip toys are always a win at my house. Pretty much every cat likes them. I don’t think I’ve seen one with a plush head before, though.

Ourpets Catnip Totter Mouse – Value $7.99

This pressed catnip toy was slightly more popular than the other. Madison rubbed himself all over it and rolled around on the floor. It was cute.

purr-packs-march-2017-angus-mice

Mesa Fun-Mice (3 pack) – Value $2.98

Angus kept trying to run off with these (still attached to the backing) while I was taking photos. He also had a lot of fun with them over the weekend. (I’m having trouble finding this for sale online so I’ve linked to a wholesale website that has an MSRP.)

Yeowww! Chubby Mouse – Value $5.49

Always happy to see Yeowww! anything in a box. These toys must have really good catnip because I find the cats playing with them MONTHS after I get them. Angus and Monkey are especially interested in this.

purr-packs-march-2017-pasta

Pet Candy PCQ Squirrels – Value $5

Here is another thing Angus tried to run off with. He is so interested in all things with feathers.

Pastabilities Cat Lovers Pasta (14 oz) – Value $5.50

There is usually a novelty item meant for humans in Purr Packs. This month it was cat-face-shaped pasta.  We do like to keep pasta around in case of emergency (like bad weather with no food in the house) and we didn’t have a backup, so this has gone into the pantry for future use.

purr-packs-march-2017-treats

Snack 21 Herring Steaks (0.88 oz) – Value $2.99

These were a bit of a miss. My cats don’t seem to care for dried fish treats. They are interested in the smell but they never actually eat the treats.

Zuke’s Natural Purrz in Salmon (3 oz) – Value $3.19

These, however, were a huge hit. I don’t care if I get a bag of these in every cat subscription box, because my cats really like them. Yes, they smell, but they’re not too fishy.

purr-packs-march-2017-wands

Ourpets GoFish! Teaser Rod – Value $10.99

I’m still not sure I’ve got the operation of this one just right (the mechanism for advancing and retracting the string is not intuitive) but it works quite well as a dangly toy on a stick. Many of my cats like dangly toys on sticks.

Rascals Cat Toy (interactive wand) – Value $7.94

This was pretty popular but it fell apart after about five minutes. Granted, my cats were playing rather violently with it, so it may last longer for other people.

Gratuitous cat photos ahead:

purr-packs-march-2017-angus1

Angus is finally at the stage where he is taking treats from me! Sometimes.

purr-packs-march-2017-angus2

Angus goes after a dangly toy.

purr-packs-march-2017-angus3

I love this picture.

purr-packs-march-2017-angus4

Angus really liked hanging out in the box. He was rolling around in there.

purr-packs-march-2017-madison1

Madison with the pressed catnip mouse.

purr-packs-march-2017-madison2

It is difficult to photograph, but what happened is that after a little while with the pressed catnip mouse, Madison was rolling all over the floor. This is what he does with really good catnip.

purr-packs-march-2017-madison4

And Madison eats a treat.

purr-packs-march-2017-monkey1

Monkey sniffs a treat. He is not very food-motivated.

purr-packs-march-2017-monkey2

Monkey eventually succeeded in getting Angus out of the box and then he claimed it and wouldn’t move for a very long time.

purr-packs-march-2017-sneaky1

Sneaky will ALWAYS get excited for treats.

purr-packs-march-2017-sneaky2

Action shot! I’m kind of happy about this, actually.  he’s on prednisolone for her asthma right now and that usually makes her sluggish, so it was nice to see her play.

purr-packs-march-2017-sneaky3

And another action shot. I could fill this review with blurry photos of Sneaky jumping off the floor. She had a lot of fun with this toy.

purr-packs-march-2017-sparkles1

Mr. Kitty pretends he doesn’t like pressed catnip toys. I know otherwise.

purr-packs-march-2017-sparkles2

Here is Mr. Kitty rubbing his chin on the pressed catnip mouse.

purr-packs-march-2017-sparkles3

And here he is, sniffing it. I was hoping to get a shot of him biting it (his usual response to such toys) but I think he was mad at me after I took him to the veterinary ophthalmologist earlier in the day.

Verdict: I calculated a value of $57.49 for the March 2017 Purr Packs box. That is an exceptionally good value for a cat subscription box. It is quite a good value for Purr Packs (usually one of the better-valued cat boxes) even without the usual scratch pad included. Almost every item was a hit this month with one or more of my cats, too. This is consistently one of my favorite cat subscriptions and this month was no exceptions.

I definitely loved how happy this made my cat! However, their customer service has really been lacking. I have asked SEVERAL times for them to cancel my subscription (I no longer can afford to budget this into my monthly expenses) and they have not done anything about it. I can’t find anywhere on the site to cancel! I also did not receive one of my boxes and asked for a refund. I haven’t heard back from them regarding that either. Severely disappointed. I would not recommend based on my experience.

It seems like the Multi-Mega cat is getting to be a worse value every month. The box is once again a smaller size AND there is no scratcher in it. You might think after smaller boxes in both January and February (actually, I think I was one of maybe only a few people to get a smaller January box) they would make up for it to Mega subscribers in March.

I was reading one of the most common reasons for subscription boxes to lose subscribers is that people getting the “mega” versions don’t feel it is good value compared to the smaller boxes, and I totally get that because I am about to unsubscribe. I think if people just MUST have this pack for their kitties, they should save themselves $10 and get the Fun & Love pack EVEN IF they have more cats.

Cats…you could send an empty box of the month, and they would love it. Especially if there was catnip in it. I see they like the toys and treats, but they love the box the most.

Cuuute! Does the slim only come with toys and not treats? I only have one cat and she doesn’t need a super huge one.

Nat

Yes, only toys. No treats or scratcher. I get it and It is more toys than my cat can play with in a month! 🐺

Chris

I think they all come with treats, but you can opt out of them by contacting customer service. That’s what I do, because I have a kitty who can’t have most of the treats (and she thinks it’s entirely unfair if the other kitty gets treats).

Ragan

Mr. Kitty can’t have most treats but the other four can, so while I feel really mean not giving them to him, I do get the treats.

I think KitNipBox also has a “no treats” option. Not sure about the other cat subscriptions.

Love those actions shots. Mr Kitty looks happy and Angus was so cute in the box. I think this is my favorite box. I don’t get it but it’s on my wishlist. Hello to all your furries from Leeloo and Louie.

Sorry for the duplicate comment. Thought the first one didn’t post because I corrected spelling errors.
