Texas-Market-February-2017-Collateral

This month's theme is: "A Taste of Texas." From My Texas Market:

By popular demand, this month's box is inspired by some of our favorite food and drink from the Lone Star State. Of course, we know we can't fit everything in one box, so be on the lookout for a second "Taste of Texas" box later in the year! Enjoy!

The  March Theme Sneak Peek is  "The Bee's Knees."

Texas-Market-February-2017-Info-card

My Texas Market always includes an info card with details about the items included in the box. This month, there were 4 items included, and they gave a little background about the artisans and the items.

Texas-Market-February-2017-Cornbread-Soup-Mix

Texas Two-Step Cornbread Mix - Value $6.00

Southwest Soup Mix - Value $6.00

This gift box came with a soup mix and a corn muffin mix. The soup mix has whole grains and beans, while the cornbread is made with non-GMO corn. The soup instructions said to soak it for 8 hours and then simmer for 2 hours. I forgot to soak it, so I did a 'fast soak' by boiling water, turning it off and placing the soup mix inside for about an hour. Then I brought it up to a boil, added the spices, and simmered for about 1.5-2 hours.

The cornbread was similarly easy - milk, egg, honey, and oil were added, mixed and then placed into a hot buttered cast iron skillet. I baked for the 20 minutes recommended.

I topped my soup with some avocado and my cornbread with some Kerrygold butter and honey. This made for a tasty lunch!

Texas-Market-February-2017-Tea
Catspring Yaupon Tea by Pedernales - Value $7.95

This green tea was pretty light tasting as far as green tea goes. I enjoyed it with a splash of lavender simple syrup for sweetness.

Texas-Market-February-2017-BBQ-Sauce

SuckleBusters Original BBQ Sauce - Value $6.99

I tried this straight out of the bottle and thought it was excellent! They have great reviews on their website and I found them to be pretty accurate - this is just a great BBQ sauce that is exactly what they say it is: sweet, tangy, and spicy!

Texas-Market-February-2017-Beer-Jelly

County Road Canning - Texas Beer Jelly - Value $7.00

This was interesting! I will start by saying that I am not a beer drinker, so I was unsure how I would like this product. I tried it on the cornbread and was pleased! It smelled very yeasty when I opened it, but it tasted almost like apple on the cornbread. So odd! I loved it though and will continue to use it!

Verdict: This month, the value of my box was $33.94. This is the first time My Texas Market has ever come in under the $35.00 mark. It did seem like it was missing an item this month; I think an additional 5th item would have gone a long way this month.

With that said, though, this is a smaller box company and they have never disappointed me in their products and curation. I think a $1.06 deficit from the cost of the box is forgivable once or twice, especially since I enjoyed all of the products this month!

Bekki first discovered subscription boxes in 2014 and they quickly took over her life! (Not quite, but pretty close.) She started with POPSUGAR Must Have, then moved to Little Lace Box, Birchbox, Hamptons Lane...the rest was history. Her favorite product find is Beekman 1802 Fudge (so, so good) and her favorite boxes are Birchbox and Hamptons Lane...but she's always looking for a new subscription to try!

This is an older review, but even so, I’d give points for having cornbread AND soup mix. I know it’s a gift box set, but it’s bigger than the average item.

On a separate note, I’ve been on Pedernales River. I’m curious about the tea.
