Kiwi Crate sent this great instructional booklet for the activity. My daughter (7 years old) recently moved over to the independent realm so she was able to follow the instructions and complete this arcade activity without any assistance from me. Clearly, Kiwi Crate did a great job on the instructions!

Kiwi Crate also included this magazine which my daughter has loved reading. Typically she isn’t too interested in reading the booklets that come with the subs but again, I have to give it to Kiwi Crate for doing a great job on the magazine.

The magazine then has various sections for kids to explore:

  • Read - Steve, the Kiwi, visits an arcade with his friends. They all work together (teamwork!) to win a stuffed gorilla.
  • Draw - drawing pictures with shapes
  • Play – penny arcade, skeeball, pinball
  • Explore – learning about games in & the history of an arcade
  • Make – build your own arcade

First Cira made the claw. She got frustrated once but was able to finish it by herself and in about 15 minutes.

Next Cira assembled the handle and attached it to the claw. This took maybe 10 minutes or less. Seven-year-olds are super silly, right?

I thought making a pompom would be cool for her but she said it was boring. It didn’t take very long to complete – about 10 minutes- but you know how kids are. I like the little handle Kiwi Crate provided for making the pompoms. That will be handy in the future!

Here is the completed activity. I think it turned out really cute and I loved that Cira was able to do the activity independently. It wasn’t the sturdiest contraption, though. Cira was playing with the claw in her room and it fell apart pretty quickly. Although, I can’t really vouch for how well it was put together.

Verdict: We really enjoyed our first box from Kiwi Crate. Cira completed the activity alone and was able to do it all in about one hour. Plus, she’s enjoyed the magazine Kiwi Crate included and she picked out additional activities/crafts she wants to make in the future.

I can’t believe what you get in this sub for $20! The magazine, the activity and then all the activities and information from the Kiwi Crate website which is fabulous. Plus, Kiwi Crate does a great job with their communication. I knew when the box was on its way and then received a follow-up email asking for feedback. I think this is a top notch subscription for kids.

Great review!

My son has moved up to Tinker Crate now, but I still love seeing what the Kiwi Crate activity is – we loved Kiwi Crate so much 🙂

I’m a bit confused that this is the crate you received. We received this crate almost a year ago on a ‘deal.’ My daughter put it together as a 6 year old, and needed assistance. We thought it was a fun idea as her parents, but she was not very amused (and this kid likes projects). Every time I look at Kiwi Crate I want to like the idea, but it’s just not something that works for us yet…or ever.

Hi there! I am really curious as to why you don’t think Kiwi Crate will work for you. I am considering the product for a niece of mine but do not know what to think about it. Any shared experiences (bad and good) would be helpful! Thanks – Mark
