Typically, Wine Awesomeness ships wine in their signature blue box, but this month’s shipment arrived in a standard brown box.

Each box comes with a booklet that provides information about the month’s featured wines, tasting notes for each bottle, and suggested recipe pairings.
This month’s theme is “Film Noir,” and instead of the usual recipe pairings, this month’s wines are all paired with classic films!
I think this is such a clever idea! Some of the suggested pairings are Chinatown, Casablanca, Strangers on a Train, and Touch of Evil.
Boxes also often include small product samples. (This month’s box contained a sample of tea and a sample of sweetener.)
Now, on to the wines!
2016 Balance Sauvignon Blanc
The first wine I received in my shipment of whites is a Sauvignon Blanc from South Africa. It’s tart and fruity, and Wine Awesomeness describes it as a “pineapple fruit cocktail cup, but for adults.” I find this wine to be flavorful and refreshing. Yum!
2015 Pratsch Grüner Veltliner - Value $12.95
Next up is an Austrian Grüner Veltliner that’s ever so slightly effervescent. (I love bubbles, so I get excited when wine has even a hint of fizz!) The taste reminds me a little of apples and pears, and there’s a nice pop of acidity that makes this wine taste clean and fresh. The recommended movie pairing is 1950’s The Asphalt Jungle, a film that features a brief performance by Marilyn Monroe before she became famous. I think I’ll have to check it out!
Pierre et Papa Vin Extraordinaire- £7.50 (approximately $9.32 in USD)
The third bottle in this shipment is a French “Vin Extraordinaire.” (French table wine is called Vin Ordinaire, so I think it’s cute that this is marketed as Vin Extraordinaire!) I’m not sure what the blend of grapes is, but I’m a big fan of this wine. It’s full-bodied, fruity, and fairly acidic, and the flavor reminds me of tart lemonade with maybe a little hint of rosemary or mint.
Verdict: I really enjoyed this box from Wine Awesomeness. All three wines were delicious this month, and they’re all bottles that I would definitely pick up again if I saw them for sale at a local wine shop. The per bottle cost breaks down to $15 per bottle, which I’m happy with.
