Unique Vintage Mint & Sushi Short Sleeve Phoebe Swing Dress – Value $98

I like this dress because the print is quirky. I actually don’t think I’ve ever eaten sushi (other than a meatless/fishless California roll-type thing), and it’s not going to happen now since I am a vegetarian, but the colors are fun and it’s getting warm enough down here to wear this.

This is hand wash or dry clean only. It seems well made. Regarding sizing, I don’t fit neatly into the size chart on the Unique Vintage site, so I picked a size that would fit my hips and bust but might be tight for my waist. This was a bit hard to zip in the waist area, but the fit is pretty good otherwise. So look at the chart if you decide to sign up, but use your judgment if you don’t fit perfectly into any of the categories. So far, every dress I have received has had a swing-type skirt so the hip measurement is pretty forgiving. But I’m glad I went with a slightly smaller size in the waist because otherwise, I would have fabric gaping up top.

P.S. Pay no attention to the ends of my hair. I am getting a trim this weekend. (Hair product suggestions for dry ends are also welcome.)

This is totally something I would wear to work, although I want to cover my arms a bit since the air conditioning can be a bit much during the summer. So here is the dress with a white shrug I already had. I think I’ll probably try to find one that’s a bit shorter and doesn’t hide my waist. Obviously, I am not wearing the petticoat to work…

Verdict: The dress I received from Unique Vintage this month had a value of $98, which is definitely above the cost of the subscription. Plus, it was actual regularly-priced merchandise and not from the clearance page. I happen to like the sushi print – I think it’s cute – and look forward to wearing this when I’m out and about.

Hi Ragan! I happened to stumble across your review while contemplating on whether to buy this dress! Like you, my measurements don’t match up to their sizes perfectly, so I’m wondering if I should size down to fit my bust (and go with an inch tighter on my waist)? What was the difference between your waist measurement and the dress’s? Any tips/advice will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

So I order the small. I have a 34B bra size and I wear XS in most shirts and I just can’t do the mediums or I’d be swimming in the top. But I am a bigger size on bottom than on top.

My waist (last time I measured it, it’s been awhile but my weight has stayed about the same and my pants still fit) is 27.75 inches. Unique Vintage’s size S has a waist size of 26 inches listed. I have fit into everything they have sent with this subscription but some of it has been a bit of a squeeze around the middle. I don’t remember this one being a problem.

Don’t even worry about hip size with this one. Because the waist is high up and you can fit a petticoat under it, hip size is totally forgiving.

Thanks so much for replying so quickly! I have the same bust measurement and am afraid to order size M for the same reason, an extra 2″ around the top seems like a lot of empty space.

I’m glad you replied, I’m going to go order the size S! It’s pretty perplexing to order clothes online since I’m in between sizes.

Anyway, you’ve got yourself another subscriber! I’ve just read all of your reviews, and am looking forward to future ones 🙂 Thanks once again, Ragan <3

That dress is so cute on you and although the print is “busy” I think your gorgeous hair balances it out. If that makes any sense.

A little pricey for the dress. I don’t think I would wear it, but you look cute in it.

the dress is really cute, and looks great on you as always!

(OGX Vitamin E oil for your ends. I use it to keep mine looking nice between trims)

I don’t have any of that on hand but OGX isn’t too pricy and I think they carry that brand at Target so I will check it out.

Hey Ragan! I love the dress! 🙂 I use Davine’s Oi Oil on my ends and it works great! They have info on their website’s FAQs, but looks like this is vegan, but not gluten-free (if any of that stuff is important to you). I think I’ve been using it for about a year, and I use it every other day sparingly.

I don’t stick to vegan or GF beauty items. I might have some of that in my stash. I do like the Davines Oi shampoo and conditioner.
