Taster's Club is a subscription that sends a new bottle of “must have” liquor to your door every month.

When you sign up for a subscription, you decide what kind of alcohol you’d like to receive.

The following clubs are available: Whisky, Bourbon, Scotch, Scotch Pro, Rum, Tequila, and Tequila Pro.

My Subscription Addiction pays for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

This review is of the Scotch Club, $79 a month, box.

The Subscription Box: Taster's Club

The Cost: $79 per month + shipping for the Scotch Club (Shipping to DC was an additional $15.) Note that the price differs between clubs.

The Products: A different bottle of liquor every month. (My shipments feature Scotch because I joined the “Scotch Club.”)

A note about shipping: Taster's Club does not list the U.S. states to which they ship on their website. Most alcohol subscription companies are unable to ship to all 50 states due to alcohol shipping restrictions, so I’m uncertain whether Taster's Club is able to ship nationwide or not.

Lagavulin Special Edition 8 Year Old - Value $54.76

In addition to being a big fan of Scotch, I’m also an avid Parks and Recreation fan, so when I pulled out this month’s bottle of whisky from my Taster’s Club box my first thought was:

Ron Swanson would be so pleased with this month’s pick!

2016 marked the 200 year anniversary of the Lagavulin distillery, and this bottle is a limited, anniversary release of one of their classic offerings. It’s bottled at 48% ABV and matured in refill European and American Oak casks.

Lagavulin is located on Islay, and this whisky has the iconic peatiness I expect from an island Scotch.

It’s smoky and peaty, light in color, and really tasty.

The dominant flavors are definitely smoke and peat, but it finishes long, clean, and salty, with a smokiness that’s nice but not overwhelming. I’m a fan!

Verdict: I’m really happy with this bottle from Taster's Club. Lagavulin is a distillery that’s long been on my radar (and one with major cult pop culture appeal!), but I think this is my first time sampling one of their whiskies. I’m a huge fan of this limited edition release, and I’m now tempted to seek out their older, and more readily available, 16-year-old malt! I’ve been subscribing to Taster’s Club for quite awhile now, and I do have to point out that this is not a high value (or even a break even) subscription. That said, I do think it’s a fun way to discover new whiskies, and I think it would be a welcome gift for a whisky-loving friend.
