Purr Packs is a monthly subscription box for cats. You can choose from several different subscription tiers, with customization offered for higher tiers (for example, you can exclude certain protein sources in treats).

Instead of a traditional information card, this month there was a card with a URL where you can find out more about the items in the box.

purr-packs-february-2017-dangly

Savvy Tabby Crinkle Bee Wand – Value $4.57

Dangly toys on sticks are awesome if you’re Sneaky. She enjoyed this quite a bit. I rarely get a chance to see if the other cats like these because Sneaky doesn’t let them have a chance…

Ourpets Rattle Ring – Value $12.11

Most of the cats liked this, including Angus and Madison. They had more fun with it when I dragged it around on the floor or dangled over it, but when I am not at home, I hang it over a doorknob.

purr-packs-february-2017-fish

Zanies Sparkle Fish – Value $0.79

This wasn’t in the earlier photo with all the items because it was buried in the crinkle paper. Monkey unearthed it. It does pay to dig through the paper pretty well because there are often a few little toys in there. This is just the right size for Angus (he likes small toys the best).

purr-packs-february-2017-heart

Cosmic Catnip Heart – Value $2.99

Sneaky rubbed her chin all over this thing so I guess it was a winner! It is made from the sort of canvas material that Monkey also tends to like quite a bit.

Pet Candy "Penny Candy" – Value $2.99?

This was another favorite for Angus. It didn’t have a label or tag so I am guessing on the value. (I am not sure if it is official “Pet Candy” brand, but it looks an awful lot like the linked item.)

purr-packs-february-2017-mushroom

Ourpets Cardinal – Value $6.43

This makes noise so you may not want it in the bedroom at night (learn from our mistake…). But it is small and has interesting textures, including feathers, so my cats were interested.

Mad Cat Magic Meowshroom – Value $4.99

Much later in the evening on the day I took the photos here, Madison went absolutely nuts with this thing – as I knew he would, based on past experience with this product line. It has silvervine in addition to catnip. Plus, these toys are really cute.

purr-packs-february-2017-treats

Natural Balance Limited Ingredient Treats in Chicken and Potato (2 oz) – Value $2.99

Mr. Kitty can’t have these and Monkey wasn’t interested (he rarely is). Of the two types of treats we received this month, these were Sneaky’s and Madison’s favorites. This is a brand I have fed many pets over the years; I find it to be of great quality in general.

Wellness Kittles in Salmon and Cranberries (2 oz) – Value $2.99

And these were Angus’s favorite treats. Well, I got him to eat one anyway. They look very similar to his food. He has such an appetite, I am sure he will be on to the treat thing in no time. Wellness is also a good brand and of course, the cranberries may help cats with urinary tract issues.

purr-packs-february-2017-scratchpad

Corrugated Cardboard Scratch Pad – Value $7?

You will get a cardboard scratch pad in most Purr Packs boxes. My cats love these. They are custom made for the box, hence the value estimate. I have decreased the value for this month because the scratch pad was somewhat smaller than the ones we’ve received previously.

purr-packs-february-2017-scratchpad-compare

Here is a size comparison of a previous scratch pad and the smaller one we received this month.

Gratuitous cat photo time:

Angus joined me for the unboxing!

purr-packs-february-2017-angus3

Angus sniffs the treats. He wasn’t quite sure what to do with them but he will learn. He is a little piggy when it comes to food.

purr-packs-february-2017-angus4

He was playing with this toy (small toys are his favorite) but the camera went off just a second too late.

purr-packs-february-2017-madison1

purr-packs-february-2017-madison2

You can hang this toy from a doorknob but the cats had more fun when I moved it around!

purr-packs-february-2017-madison3

I have to get a Madison tongue shot in every review if I can…

purr-packs-february-2017-monkey1

Monkey didn’t want to leave the box again. Also here is poor Mr. Kitty who had eye surgery last week.

purr-packs-february-2017-monkey2

purr-packs-february-2017-monkey3

More shots of Monkey in the box. Lately sitting in the boxes has been his thing, to the exclusion of nearly all else.

purr-packs-february-2017-monkey4

Well, I guess he did have some fun with this toy.

purr-packs-february-2017-sneaky1

Sneaky gets SO EXCITED for treats. Which is probably why she’s overweight. (We’re working on that.)

purr-packs-february-2017-sneaky2

She was rubbing her chin all over the heart toy. She was happy, not angry, despite the look on her face right here.

purr-packs-february-2017-sneaky3

She was also very much enjoying the dangling bee on a wand toy (as I knew she would).

And here are some pictures of Mr. Kitty. He spent a good 10 minutes pushing those bags of treats around with his cone of shame. (He isn’t allowed to eat the treats because of his IBD.) He is doing pretty well now and has the cone off, 6 days post eye surgery.

Verdict: I calculated a value of $47.85 for the February 2017 Purr Packs box. I feel pretty good about that value, even if you adjust it down a bit (there was kind of wide variation in online prices for the toys this month) or up a bit (some of the items linked to above have sale prices listed). This is consistently one of the highest-value cat subscription boxes and meets or exceeds the month-to-month subscription price pretty much every single month. It doesn’t hurt that my cats really liked the items this month, as well!

Yes, mine too. I have three lined up, as they love them so, and that’s when I realized the size difference. I think they’ve switched from shipping UPS to USPS. Mine came very fast this month – maybe two days shipping instead of a week. Was yours sealed?

Mine love their toys (and the boxes and especially the catnip laced shred) regardless of the size! It’s our favorite sub!

Mine always came USPS, at least for the final delivery. I don’t usually bother to track before then because I have so many boxes coming at any one time, so I don’t know about the progress and any hand-offs between companies. Yes, mine was taped shut.

Thanks for posting about the smaller scratcher – I noticed that too, and emailed them, as my box was also unsealed and didn’t seem to have the right number of items. No reply yet, but I’m glad I wasn’t the only one!

The box was also smaller than usual. I’m sure they did it to save a bit of money. Guessing shipping is less with a smaller box. I thought the value was still pretty good and my cats don’t seem to notice the difference.

What’s wrong about the box and scratcher being smaller is that on their website they list the sizes of the boxes, and they are actually sending a 16″ x 10″ x 4″ box when the website specifically states that it is a 18″ x 12″ x 4″ box. So it’s like you’re paying for a Mega box and receiving a Fun & Love box instead.

The Fun & Love box also is described as containing 7-9 items. I received 7 toys and 2 treats, so that part falls within “Fun & Love” parameters as well. It basically seems to be the Fun & Love box and NOT the Mega. 🙁
