Degusta Box always sends a full informational sheet with values (I always double check these values and add in the current value of the product that I find online, just to ensure that I am giving a correct value judgment!), along with recipes and coupons. I find that these values are accurate sometimes and not so accurate other times. With that said, I still appreciate the info sheet and the descriptions included with the products!
Green & Black's Pure Dark Chocolate with Sea Salt - Value $4.17
So I have a bit of a funny story for you all. I went to Target desperately searching for soy free chocolate - I am trying to avoid all soy in my regular diet and the vast majority of chocolate has soy lecithin as an emulsifier. I don't eat chocolate daily, but I'd still like to have a treat every now and again. Anyway, I searched Target high and low and finally wound up in the Valentine's Day section where I found a bag of Green and Black's Dark Chocolate and Sea Salt minis. I flipped them around, reviewed the ingredients and did a double take when I realized that this chocolate was soy free (If you have an allergy, be sure to look at ingredients as you always would; some Green & Black's chocolate does have soy). So I head home with a bag and find my DegustaBox has arrived! I hauled it upstairs for its photo op, and lo and behold I found this bar in my box! Serendipity.
Now for taste - this is great dark chocolate. I really love the added salt - it adds a complex bite to it! I ate a piece of this chocolate with a Walker's Shortbread round and it was heavenly.
Walker's Pure Butter Shortbread Rounds - Value $3.94
I love Walker's Shortbread. The ingredients list is blissfully short and it's always delicious! The majority of my cookies came intact but a few were broken. Either way, they're still delicious!
Look at all that deliciousness!
Slendier Calorie Clever Spaghetti - Value $4.33
This 'spaghetti' is made from konjac flour, which is a root vegetable. Konjac flour is very high in fiber and low in carbohydrates. It is also gluten free. I opened this pasta and it smelled so terrible. Like rotten fish terrible - but I pressed on. I rinsed it for a minute, per the instructions, and then soaked it in boiling water. After that, I dry fried it in a pan to get some of the moisture out.
I opted to finish my 'pasta' with a pat of European butter, Romano Cheese, and crushed red peppers. I was hoping this combination of strong cheese and peppers would cover whatever that terrible smell was...and I was right. This was actually really good. I ate the entire package (it's small - that's all of it in my bowl) for lunch and was satisfied. I wasn't nearly as full as I would have been with normal pasta but it was a nice change of pace! If you're avoiding carbs for any reason, I would say give this a try, but try not to smell it when you first open it.
Ricola Herbal Immunity Lozenges - Citrus Herb - Value $9.99
These came at a perfect time - just getting a cold or flu or something and these were quite soothing on my throat. I liked the flavor as well!
Grace Coco Chips - Listed Value $2.99
I wasn't anticipating liking these as much as I did. Maybe I'm starting to like coconut, I'm not sure! The texture was quite a bit better than I anticipated - they were definitely chip like, instead of coconut like. The flavor was great too - nutty and not too sweet.
Popchips Potato Ridges - Salted - Value $1.49
I really liked these! I enjoy the regular PopChips as well but I enjoyed the texture of these quite a bit more.
Popchips Potato Ridges - Tangy Barbeque - Value $1.49
The flavor on these was great - not to mention the perfect texture for a chip. These are a great, healthier alternative to regular chips.
Nando's Peri-Peri Sauce - Hot - Value $2.98
This sauce is quite spicy! It is vegetarian and is gluten-free. It has no artificial flavors or colors either. I ate it with some avocado on a flour tortilla as a quick snack and it was delicious.
Jones Cane Sugar Soda - Orange & Cream Soda - Value $2.00
I am a huge fan of Jones Soda. Their OG cream soda is the best out there in my humble opinion! This soda was just as good if you're a fan of orange soda.
PR Bars - Chocolate Peanut Butter - Value $1.12
These bars have 15 grams of protein and are gluten free. They are only 200 calories, and they are all natural with no sugar alcohols or trans fats. That's a pretty good protein bar! This has a few ingredients in it that I can't eat, so I passed this along to a friend that I knew would appreciate it. She let me know that it was delicious and it kept her full for quite a while.
Bandar Spicy Mango Chili Sauce, 2 packets - Total Value $0.36?
This month, all subscribers received two bonus sample packets of Bandar's Spicy Mango Chili sauce. It was really good but probably an acquired taste for those of us that are obsessed with Indian food. This tasted quite a bit like the mango chutney (just without the sweetness) from my favorite Indian food place. I was craving some papadum to go with it!
Verdict: This months' Degustabox has a value of about $35. The largest amount of that value came from the throat lozenges, which seem like something that most everyone can use - which is great. I enjoyed the mix of products this month like I always do. I have to be honest, taking everything out of the box, it looked like this month had quite a bit less than a usual Degustabox. I'm happy to say though, that the value is pretty on par with other months.
