Box of Happies is a monthly subscription box for handmade goods. It’s a great way to discover new Etsy artisans.

The box is always protected by an envelope and lots of bubble wrap!

I kind of like these plastic cases. They look to be a good size for storing beads or other craft supplies (and goodness knows, I have enough of those…)

This box was sent to us at no cost for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

The Subscription Box: Box of Happies

The Cost: $29.99/month for a single upcoming month of your choice (when I played with the shopping cart I was also charged tax but I think that’s because they’re in the same state I am) or $29.49 for a random box from a past month; save with longer subscriptions. You can also add a bar of soap or candle to your box for $6.49, or a piece of jewelry for $8

ACTIVE DEAL: Get a bonus handmade necklace in your first box!
CODE: HAPPIES

The Products: 3-5 handmade items such as jewelry, stationery, bath/body items, accessories, and more.

Included was an information card listing the items in the box. Also, there was a business card for Box of Happies.

Box of Happies Earrings – Listed Value $10

This is an earring-heavy subscription. What I like about these is that they match the necklace (see below) in metal tone as well as in nature theme without being too “matchy.” I painted the hooks with a few coats of clear nail polish so I could wear them (I have sensitive ears) although if I find myself wanting to wear them often, I may replace them with titanium or niobium.

Box of Happies Keyring – Listed Value $8

I was just looking at my keychain the other day and thinking it was a little sparse. (I am one of those people who carry around about 5 pounds of keychains for like 2 keys.) So this has already been put to use. If this is not to your taste, it comes in a little box perfect for gifting (as do many Box of Happies items).

Pocket Huggie Beverage Insulator - Value $5.49

I think this has to be the best koozy I’ve received in a subscription box. First, it has sparkles, but second, it is adjustable (to a degree) to fit different sizes of containers (you can also buy them for coffee cups and beer bottles). There really is quite a variety in their Etsy shop, more than I would’ve come up with (including some for holidays, sports fans, and the like).

box-of-happies-january-2017-necklace

Box of Happies Necklace – Listed Value $12

This is nice and simple and not too big for my taste. I think it would look nice layered with some other necklaces. If I can’t find any necklaces in my collection that match, I will just make one – I recently bought a lot of fun brass stampings and I already have some chain in the same color!

box-of-happies-january-2017-scrub

Aloha Beautiful Skin Bath and Body Scrub/Salt – Listed Value $2.50

This Etsy shop is on vacation so I am going with the value from the information card, which seems reasonable to me. This smells like peppermint and is very invigorating. It is also a good exfoliator. Scrubs are probably my favorite bath and body items to receive and also the ones I use the most often, so they are always welcome!

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $37.99 for the January 2017 Box of Happies. That is a fair amount above the cost of the subscription, which is especially good for handmade items. The box contents this month are representative of what you would receive in a typical month (this box is jewelry heavy and you will get all sorts of finishes – gold, silver, copper, brass, etc.). If you like discovering new Etsy and independent artisans or you have an appreciation for handmade products or you just like having a stash of emergency gifts on hand, this is a good box for any of those purposes.
