Benevolent-Beauty-Box-February-2017-info1

Every box includes a folded info card.

The inside of the card provides details about each item and the retail values. I think it’s cool that they use a mark to indicate every item that is also vegan.

Moody Sisters Herbal Blend Dry Skin Cream – 4 oz, Value $22.50

The label says that this cream melts into your skin, and that’s exactly what it does. I love the scent and the peppermint in it, and it hydrates intensely.

Benevolent-Beauty-Box-February-2017-items2

The consistency is like a really soft body butter – it’s thick but easily scooped/spread. The Benevolent Beauty Box info sheet says it's best for dry, mature and sensitive skin, but any skin type can use it on dry patches (I think it could be great as a nighttime foot moisturizer too!).

It also contains lavender, peppermint, and juniper berry essential oils – a lovely combination and I think I have to try that out in my diffuser now.

High Endurance Cosmetics Sweat Pretty Setting Spray – 4 oz, Value $13

My first impression of this setting spray is a good one. It’s talc-free, cruelty-free (obviously, as everything is in Benevolent Beauty Box), and paraben-free. It performs well, too – although I must admit I didn’t try it over a workout because I usually workout in the morning before doing my shower/makeup. I do wish the nozzle produced a finer spray and more of a mist for more even coverage, but if you hold it a good distance away from your face and give it a minute to dry/settle then you shouldn’t have issues.

Palmetto Derma Rejuvenating Anti-Oxidant Mask – 1.75 fl oz, Value $64

I was really excited to try this mask – an “antioxidant treasure trove,” and designed to leave your skin bright, radiant, and promote lift and plumping. When I first applied it, it felt cool on my skin which was definitely refreshing. As I let it sit, it felt tingly (but not painful at all).

However, I had some kind of reaction – and I DO NOT have sensitive skin. Because I was squeezing time for this mask into my precious nap time (well, they baby’s nap time), I didn’t leave it on for a full 15-30 like the label says; I washed it off at around 5-10 minutes. And honestly, I’m glad I did because once I washed it off, my face was red exactly where I had applied the mask! I could see the outline of where I had applied it. I followed with a gentle toner and moisturizer, still with no pain. However for about an hour afterward, my face felt really warm, as if I had been sunburned.

I’m really surprised because, like I said, I don’t have sensitive skin. Admittedly, I’m at fault for not patch testing it, but because I almost never have problems I didn’t make time for it this time. I’m going to have to see if I have the same reaction on my hand or arm, though, because if I just discovered that I’m allergic to something in here, I want to make a note of what it could possibly be!

Mirabella Velvet Lip Pencil, “Love Velvet” – Value $25 (currently on sale for $12.50)

This is a bright-colored lip pencil, and the formula pleasantly surprised me! It’s very creamy and super pigmented.

The shade is a bright red, almost coral-leaning. It’ll be more my comfort zone come spring and summer.

Medusa’s Makeup Lip Paint, “Shag” – Value $12

I haven’t tried much from Medusa’s makeup, and never any of their lip products. This lip paint is intense! Definitely make sure you like the color before applying because this has serious staying power.

(Good to know for swaps: this comes with a plastic seal around the entire bottle)

Benevolent-Beauty-Box-February-2017-items10

Once this dries down matte, it’s there to stay – make sure that if/when you do remove it, it’s with an oil-based makeup remover. This color, Shag, is a pretty pink that should work on many people. It’s more pale of a color than I’m used to wearing on myself, but I like it alright.

Here’s a swatch of the Medusa’s Makeup Lip Paint and the Mirabella pencil. You can really see how pigmented the pencil formula is here.

Benevolent-Beauty-Box-February-2017-items12

Here’s what the lip colors look like on me. The left is the Mirabella pencil (love) and the right is the Medusa’s lip paint (which looked slightly paler in person than it does in this photo).  I like them both!

Verdict: As usual, the February Benevolent Beauty Box brought me a new discovery that I love (the dry skin cream), but overall it wasn’t my favorite month. I am glad to discover every product in the box, though obviously I’m bummed the mask didn’t work for me especially because it’s the most expensive item in the box. As far as value goes, though, everything adds up to over $130! I have come to expect between $90-100 in value from this sub, so this month is actually on the higher end of what I’ve seen from them!

What do you think about Benevolent Beauty Box? Did you have any kind of reaction to the mask like I did?

The Herbal Skin Cream has become my new favorite! Colorado weather dries your entire body and this is the best overnight Cream I have tried. The subtle scent relaxes my body, and like Haley, I’ll be trying this combination in my diffuser. I have sensitive skin, but enjoyed the slight tingle the Palmetto mask gave me – fortunately I had no reaction.

I’m always thrilled with my Benevolent Box!

When that mask was in Boxycharm one of the Facebook beauty box trade/sell groups I’m in had a whole thread of people posting photos of their bright red faces after trying the mask. I didn’t have a reaction, but I also didn’t get the great affects people who liked the mask reported either.

Ouch, I do have sensitive skin and have this mask sitting in my drawer of skin care goodies. I’ve met to try it several times but have been doing sheet masks instead (I’m lazy) lol Thanks to you, I’ll be sure to skin test it first. 😉

The lip paint has parabens even though the card said ‘no parabens’.

Haley, it seems no matter what you try on, you look good in it!

Sorry about the reaction 🙁
However you look lovely in the Medusa lip paint. That color looks great on you

Sorry you had that reaction, this is my favorite mask. I have very oily skin, this mask works wonders for me. When Vegan Cuts had past beauty boxes on sale I stocked up so I would never be without it.

I’m sorry to hear what effect the mask had on your skin. That mask was in Glossybox I think and alot of people reported a similar effect 😒

Blondie

Yes, and I remember someone saying that the mask is intended to have that effect since it’s almost like an acid peel. They recommended to apply it at night because of the redness. My face turns red also and seems like it’s sunburnt but it always goes away and makes my skin feel so good. I love this product!
