Tea Box Express is a monthly box of tea goodies! Rather than just having tea and nothing else, you’ll get a few edible treats and accessories as well.

The North Bank Tea and Coffee Press (2 cup) – Value $23.96

I actually decided to bring this to my office. I like making Crio Bru but my knockoff Keurig machine doesn’t handle Crio Bru well (I think the lack of good reusable K-cups is the problem). It is so much easier in this, and it is pretty easy to clean, too. (This is a 12-ounce press; 2 “cups” refers to small coffee or tea cups rather than actual 8 fluid ounce measuring cups.)

Malvi Marshmallow Confections in Vanilla Salted Caramel (1.75 oz) – Value $4.67

I am always a little disappointed to receive marshmallows in a subscription box because they fall into the NOT VEGETARIAN category (these contain gelatin). My husband did enjoy these, though. He reports that they tasted exactly like the name implied and that they were a bit crumbly.

Note: there were no package weights listed. I believe these are the “sample” size listed on the Nelson’s Tea website (since the next smallest, 2 oz, says “2 oz” on the package). I have valued them accordingly.

Nelson’s Tea Really Root Beer Herbal Tea – Value $2.50?

I think I should have let this steep a bit longer for a stronger flavor, but it really does smell (and taste) like root beer! This has a lot of ingredients but the top two – sassafras bark and sarsaparilla root – are probably mostly responsible for the flavor.

Nelson’s Tea Winter Nights Cinnamon Apple Orange Black Tea – Value $2.50?

This is a good, basic spice tea. Because it’s a black tea, I’ve actually been drinking it during the day rather than at night so the caffeine doesn’t keep me up. But the cinnamon scent and flavor are warming and not too strong.

Nelson’s Tea English Breakfast Black Tea – Value $2.50?

I am a fan of plain black tea. I drink at least one or two cups of it a day. I expect this will be the first tea from this box to completely disappear.

Here are the black teas. Nothing too unexpected here. The plain black tea is on the left and the Winter Nights one is on the right.

And here is the Root Beer tea in the French press!

Verdict: I calculated a value of $36.13 for the January Tea Box Express. That is about $5 over the cost of the box plus shipping, which is pretty good. Although I couldn’t eat the marshmallows, I am using the French press frequently and I like all the teas.

It’s no fun when you can’t eat them, though.
