Rescue Box is a subscription box for dogs or cats. For dogs, choose from small (up to 20 pounds), medium (20-50 pounds), and large (50+ pounds). This is a review of the large dog box. For reference, my dog Nyx is an 84-pound Rottweiler. Rescue box is associated with Greater Good (the folks who brought you The Hunger Site, The Animal Rescue Site, and more) and your purchase of a subscription will help provide food and vaccines to shelter pets!

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Included was an information card with more information about the items in the box and more information on The Rescue Box’s charity efforts.

Huxley and Kent Bowtie in Red/Navy Stripes (XL) – Value $4.67?

I was totally going to have Nyx model this for you and then when I went to put it on (it goes over the collar), I realized the velcro strap that attaches it to the collar was not big enough for Nyx’s extra-wide collar. But, I know some people with dogs who can use this, so all is not lost. (I had a hard time finding this exact tie but I found a similar one from the same manufacturer.)

Doggyloot Dog Waste Bags (3 rolls) – Value $3.38

This is the first time we’ve received dog waste bags in this subscription box. But, they are useful (not only for picking up the yard, but I scoop the litter boxes into dog waste bags rather than dragging the trash can around with me).

Pridebites Martini Dog Toy – Value $9.99

As you might imagine, Nyx enjoyed this. It is not the most durable dog toy out there, but it was fun while it lasted.  And Nyx found a squeaker I didn’t know was there!

Martini Dog Cookie – Value $2?

This is a fun inclusion in the box to go with the toy and the New Year’s theme. However, there were no ingredients listed and no packaging so I couldn’t identify a manufacturer.  I would really encourage ingredients lists in the future because a lot of dogs have allergies and food sensitivities.

Loving Pets It’s Purely Natural Pure Beef Jerky Bars (4 oz) – Value $7.45

These are made in the USA (so important for jerky treats), wheat, corn, and soy free, and free of additives, by-products, and fillers. This brand has been making the rounds in the pet subscription boxes lately and I do know that my cats like their treats.

Red Barn Naturals Filled Bone (bully stick flavor, 8.8 oz) – Value $7.79

This thing is dense and heavy and should last awhile, even for heavy chewers. (Of course, always supervise your dog with chews of this sort the first few times you provide them!)

As expected, Nyx thought this was pretty fun and didn’t want to give it up.

But here is the toy AFTER Nyx had it for a few minutes.

Verdict: I calculated a value of $35.28 for December’s Rescue Box.  I liked that we got a New Year’s theme instead of the umpteenth Christmas box for December (I get a LOT of dog subscription boxes…). This box pretty much always comes in at least a few dollars over the cost of the box in terms of value and this month was no exception. Plus, the items are generally easy to find at reputable online stores if you are interested in obtaining more of them.

Just before Xmas I bought a Groupon for this box and with a promo code for Groupon, I got my first box for only $8. They shipped a box very quickly, got it three days after ordering. It was completely different than the one here. Looks like a lot of what I got was in their July box, plus I have a small dog. There was no info card about the products, one item, the Jolly Pets Tuff Range Teeter, seemed to be meant for a much larger dog so that was weird to me, but the rest was good:

Jolly Pets Tuff Range Teeter
Outward Hound Gator Squeaker Mat Toy
Loving Pets Puffed Cheese Treats
3 Bully Sticks (no brand/info on the bag)
Ball that lights up and makes noise when it hits the ground (I threw the packaging away and don’t recall the brand; my dog loves it)

Ya I signed up with a $1 first box Cyber Monday deal and got a different “introductory box” for my first one. I stayed subscribed to check it out for awhile and the boxreviewed here is the same one I got this month (except my bow tie was green and pink).

I got some different items and I didn’t see the box listed on the swap site listed some under pet giftbox or barkbox. I don’t think I’ll get it regularly but got a couple as gift and when I signed up they gave me another $5 off my next box.
