This box included a letter for Nyx!

pet-treater-january-2017-meme

And this meme. I do enjoy this aspect of the box since they started including it.

pet-treater-january-2017-sneaky

Sneaky checks out the box. All boxes are for cats, right?

There was also a card with a photo of a dog with last month’s box items. If you send in a picture of your dog enjoying some Pet Treater goodies, you could be featured on a future month’s card.

pet-treater-january-2017-hello-fresh

And ANOTHER gift code for Hello Fresh. There must be a warehouse full of these somewhere…I’ve gotten more of these than I got AOL CD-ROMs back in the 1990s.

Grriggles Under the Sea Squeaker Ball – Value $9.95

The ball part of this is big enough for Nyx, but I believe she will eat the arms in a matter of seconds, so I am going to pass this on to someone with a less destructive dog. I like cartoon-style sea creatures, though, so I think it is pretty cute.

Shedmonster Undercoat Rake (large) – Value $6.95

This is a useful item. You would think that, with short hair, Rottweilers wouldn’t shed much. You’d be wrong. Very wrong. Anyway, this is an appropriate size for Nyx and I expect to see a lot more use during the spring shedding season.

To Doggy with Love in Wild Mackerel (3.5 oz) – Value $10.99

This is a new brand for me. I think the fish is what was attracting Sneaky (I swear, she can smell through ANY packaging). Anyway, these have a lot of anti-inflammatory ingredients like turmeric (good for the joints), plus they are grain free and made in the U.S!

Emerald Pet Little Duckies (5 oz) – Value $8.06

I think this is old packaging because when I found this online, it was branded as “Smart n’ Tasty.” (I feel pretty good about the Smart n’ Tasty brand; my cats love their dental treats.) These have duck and sweet potato and are grain free, soy free, and dairy free, with limited ingredients for dogs with food sensitivities and allergies. Sadly, duck is out for Nyx (that’s what she was eating when diagnosed with IBD) but I will find someone with a dog who will love these.

Fresh Solutions Pet Carpet Wipes (7” x 9”, 30 count) – Value $6.49

Cleanup supplies are always appreciated. I seem to have better luck cleaning up stains by absolutely drenching the area with a cleaning solution. I’m not sure carpet wipes are going to be sufficient for the mega-stains that IBD animals can produce on bad days. But we will see, I guess. (I haven’t had any stains to test these on in the past week.)

PEZ Candy Bears (5 oz) – Value $1.65

Back when I used to get PinchMe, I got a smaller package of these. They were pretty good (and vegetarian!). These expire on March 31 (better than the last time Pet Treater sent human candy, which expired less than a week after arrival) and one day when I have some extra calories, I am totally going to eat them. (Note: these may not be great candy, but since I rarely get to eat candy any longer and I can’t normally have gummies due to gelatin, they taste good to me.)

Tuff Guys “Lars” by Kyjen – Value $10.88

I lost my photo of this toy and, unfortunately, after Nyx got through with it, it’s not in a suitable state for taking a new one. So here is the photo of her with the clearest picture of the toy (you can also see it up above). It was reasonably tough (the first casualty was its ear) and it did have a lot of squeakers so if your dog deactivates one, the others may still work.

And some more photos of Nyx with the toy. This had so many squeakers. So many. Don’t give this thing to your dog late at night, when you’re tired, or when you have a sinus headache.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $55 for the January Pet Treater dog subscription box. That is about average for this box and is definitely above the cost of the box. Nyx enjoyed the bigger toy and the treats seemed high quality (not sure about the packaging change and if that means the Emerald Pet ones were old stock). I’d say this was a representative month for this subscription. Also, for whatever reason, this box arrived way earlier in the month than I am used to. I figure that’s a good sign.

Pet Treater has the worst customer service. I ordered my first box this month. And it was supposed to ship on the 10th and still hasn’t shipped out yet. I’ve tried contacting customer service and they completely ignore me. I wouldn’t recommend trying. This company steals your money and refuses to give refunds even of the order hasn’t shipped when it was supposed to.

Love the part about not given the toy to the dogs late at night or when you have a headache. My Miniature Pincher loves toys with the squeakers and will only mess with them until he pulls the squeaker out then he carries it around like he just pulled down a deer. I am always looking for toys with multiple squeakers as it keeps him busy the longest.

Thank you for the review Ragan! I’ve only tried Pet Treater and Bark Box…I love the themes that Bark Box has for their boxes, but I’ve kept only Pet Treater as my dog always seems to get his favorite toys from their boxes. My dog loves big stuffed toys with long appendages that he can swing around… Perhaps we’ve been lucky, but we”ve had a number of them in Pet Treater. Also- as a side note – I agree with Tammy and I love those gummies! It’s interesting that I would find out about a new favorite treat for me from a dog box 😊

The free pet coupon didn’t work for me. I tried signing up month to month and said it’s not valid.

I love those gummies, and I am not normally a gummy fan. The texture seems something like a cross between a gummy and a circus peanut. I am taking a break for a few months, but I REALLY want to pick this box up again soon.
