How to Relax by Thich Nhat Hanh – Value $7.49 on Amazon (retail price $9.95)

I’ve never really thought about the importance of relaxing at the beginning of a new year, but it’s probably a good idea. I have only read a few pages of this book so far but it’s already full of great ideas! From Amazon:

How to Relax is part of The Mindfulness Essentials series of how-to titles by Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh, introducing beginners and reminding seasoned practitioners of the essentials of mindfulness practice. Pocket-sized, with original two color illustrations by Jason DeAntonis, How to Relax shows how critical it is to regularly interrupt the hub-bub and routine of our lives to stop, relax mindfully, and recharge.

Thich Nhat Hanh says that when we relax, we “become calm water, and we will reflect reality as it is. If weíre not calm, the image we reflect will be distorted. When the image is distorted by our minds, itís not the reality, and it causes lots of suffering.” Relaxation is essential for accessing the tranquility and joy that lead to increased personal well-being. With sections on healing, relief from nonstop thinking, transforming unpleasant sounds, solitude, being peace, and more, How to Relax includes meditations you can do to help you achieve the benefits of relaxation no matter where you are.

Scientific studies indicate that meditation contributes tremendously to well-being, general health, and longevity. How to Relax is a unique gift for those who want a simple guide to achieving deep relaxation, controlling stress, and renewing mental freshness and clarity, appropriate for those practicing in any spiritual tradition, whether seasoned practitioners or new to meditations.

With fifteen two color drawings by celebrated artist Jason DeAntonis.

mindfulness-box-january-2017-crystal

Zeolite Crystal – Listed Value $22

Zeolite is known as a detoxifying, healing crystal that pulls toxins from both the body and the environment. It is also useful for removing negative energy. I could always use more of that!

Window Cling + Affirmation Card by My Everyday Mantra – Value $3.99

I love having little reminders like this everywhere. This window cling will stick (and re-stick) to any smooth surface, so it would be great on a mirror. The affirmation card would also be good as a bookmark! It’s laminated. I think little notes of encouragement like this are so nice!

mindfulness-box-january-2017-soap

Kamini Lavender Soap – Value $2.50

Lavender is truly the king of relaxing fragrances, and this soap has a nice, pure lavender scent. It lathers well, too! That’s always my big criteria for soaps.

Sandalwood Amber Aromatherapy Essential Oil Blend by New Age Imports – Listed Value $6.95

I always think of sandalwood as such an exotic fragrance – I think it must have been the first ‘exotic’ fragrance I ever became familiar with many, many years ago. It’s quite common now! Still, it smells wonderful, and this blend with amber is very sultry. Sandalwood has lots of health applications, too.

Askinosie Chocolate – Listed Value $3

This chocolate bar is tiny! There were actually two of them in the box, but one of them hid when I pulled everything out to photograph. Anyway, they were very delicious, but super small, so they were really the perfect little indulgence! (Notice I said “were”…)

Verdict: I am a big fan of Mindfulness Box! Once again, they delivered a great package curation. I also will use everything in the box this month, and I am really looking forward to finishing and referencing this book! The value of this month’s box comes to about $46, which is great for a $29 box!
