The box came with this information card, which basically directs you to their website. I have to admit, I liked the old brochures more – you could instantly tell which snacks were vegan, gluten free, etc. Now you have to read the tiny print of the ingredients lists, instead.

love-with-food-january-2017-literature

There are also usually some coupons for the included products and/or some product literature.

love-with-food-january-2017-candies

Prince of Peace Ginger Candy (3 pieces) – Value $0.22

These are making the rounds in the past six months. I think this is the third box I’ve received them in. They are mostly sugar but nice because a little ginger can calm a mildly upset stomach.

Prince of Peace Ginger Honey Crystals (0.35 oz) – Value $0.55

You can drink this on its own as tea or add it to another tea to sweeten it a bit. Prince of Peace is a nice brand; I love their jasmine green tea and am always happy to get more of this as well.

Dilettante Creamy Latte, Espresso, and Mocha Candies (3 pieces) – Value $1.68

There are usually small candies in Love with Food. Unfortunately, the latte one was completely liquid when it arrived. And the other two were coffee flavored. So they were given to my husband, since he actually likes coffee.

love-with-food-january-2017-chips

Door Country Kettle Chips (original, 1 oz, 2) – Value $2.66

These are pretty standard potato chips here. Plain potato chips are often included in Love with Food; you should expect to see some every other month or so, nearly always different brands.

love-with-food-january-2017-cookies

Emmy’s Vanilla Bean Organic Coconut Cookie – Value $0.90

Emmy’s Dark Cacao Organic Coconut Cookie – Value $0.90

These were two of the first things to go. I really like coconut and I really like sweet things and these were both. Also, they held their shapes, which is not something I can say for every macaroon I’ve had in the past six months.

Goodie Girl Go-Paks in Quinoa Chocolate Chip – Value $0.83

If you have to eat gluten free, it is nice things like this exist. But, I honestly don’t like the texture at all. (I do not eat GF.) They are tough and kind of hard in not such a good way.

love-with-food-january-2017-crackers

Thinables Cinnamon Swirl (1.5 oz) – Value $1.20

Fiber cookies. So. This whole package is only 100 calories because it is mostly indigestible fiber. I was excited – look how much I get to eat for only 100 calories! And I ate the whole bag. I liked the texture but I am used to (very) high fiber foods. But here’s the thing – 15 grams of fiber is the equivalent of 2.5 single-serve packets of psyllium fiber. And I ate these the morning after one packet of fiber, dried fruit, a KIND bar, and a smoothie with a lot of frozen fruit and flax  And that was really too much fiber, even for me (like more than one full day’s worth in about three hours) – and I have been on a low fat, high fiber diet for over a year. So pay attention to what else you are eating at the same time and maybe don’t eat the whole package at once. And drink a LOT of fluids.

Maple Carrot Crisp Smart Crackers (5 oz) – Value $3.99

I have had this brand before, but this flavor is new to me. These are a sweeter type of cracker so I wouldn’t eat them with cheese, but they are good with various random packets of flavored nut butters I had around the house.

love-with-food-january-2017-daves1

love-with-food-january-2017-daves2

Dave’s Sweet Tooth Toffee (mystery flavor and size, maybe 2 oz) – Value $1.83

Dave’s Sweet Tooth Toffee (peanut butter crunch, maybe 2 oz) – Value $1.83

I get a little miffed when I receive a snack with so little information on the package. (There was nothing on the back – no ad spiel, no ingredients list, no nutrition information. I emailed this company and gave them a week to respond and they did not.) I’m not even sure what flavor the “milk” one was or what “milk” means in this context. Is it an allergy warning? This tasted good (these did seem to be vegetarian after I visited the company’s website) but in this day and age of dietary restrictions and severe food allergies, it is just really important to have full and complete and accurate label information.

love-with-food-january-2017-sweetener

Aloha Daily Good Greens Chocolate Blend (0.4 oz) – Value $2.50

I make smoothies in the morning with greens powder and cacao so this was immediately put to good use.

Truvia (7 packets) – Value $0.42

Truvia Nectar (4 servings) – Value $1.10

I’m not quite on the stevia bandwagon yet. I know it is a plant extract, so that is great if you want to avoid artificial sweeteners, but I prefer aspartame and xylitol for flavor and dental protection issues, respectively. Anyway, this will get used in Crio Bru eventually.

love-with-food-january-2017-waffle

Honey Stinger Kids’ Organic Waffle (chocolate, 0.5 oz) – Value $1.06

I love these. Wish it had been bigger. This was the first thing to go. They taste so sweet and the texture is great, too.

Crème de Pirouline Cream Filled Wafers (dark chocolate, 0.88 oz) – Value $0.71

This is another one I ate right away. Pretty much what you would expect from a rolled-up, cream-filled wafer.

Red Plate Foods “Free From” Vegan Granola (1.9 oz) – Value $1.50

A lot of granola has honey so it is nice there are alternatives for people with dietary restrictions. (However, Love with Food is not a good choice for vegans – there were tons of dairy and honey in the other items in this month’s box.) I thought this was a nice change from the protein granola I receive in fitness subscription boxes!

Verdict: I calculated a value of $23.88 for the January 2017 Love with Food Deluxe Box. That is one of the best values I’ve ever seen from this subscription, and the box really did feel like it was packed full of stuff this month. While not every item was a hit, I appreciate the variety and I did make some new discoveries of items I’d like to purchase again.

I’ve received Saves Sweet Tooth toffee twice from Mitten Crate and I love it so much that I have ordered a few packs from them directly. My guess is that the “milk” means milk chocolate toffee. Their dark chocolate toffee is my favorite, followed by the peanut butter crunch toffee. 🙂 I agree they really should have had a professional label on there, but since I already know and love the brand myself, I know if be thrilled to get them in any sub 😀 plus their normal packaging has proper labels, including the ones I have received in Mitten Crate.

I signed up a few days ago and got my deluxe box yesterday. The items I received are totally different, which I thought was odd. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still pleased with the box, but if I wasn’t getting the same items, Love w/ Food should have given me a heads up.

You might have gotten the bonus box for subscribing. They were doing a promotion where a bonus box would be sent out with any new subscription. If you only signed up a few days ago, your regular subscription box should be the Feb Box. I got this Jan’s box but haven’t gotten my bonus box yet….
