WooBamboo Sprout Toothbrushes 2-pk – Value $7.77
These brushes are made with bamboo and are economically made. The bristles are soft and the handle size and shape works for parents who are helping kids brush as well as toddler hands trying to do it themselves. I love when subscription boxes send me kid’s toothbrushes because they’re something I just don’t tend to think to buy myself.
Wrap-N-Mat Mini Pouch – Value $6
This is smart. It’s a little fold-up food pouch that opens completely flat to be a placemat and clean easily. This means you don’t have to always use plastic baggies or have crummy corners left in other reusable snack pouches. It’s not airtight so I can’t store everything in it, but it would be good for sandwiches, chips, etc. It would also be handy at restaurants as a little placemat for finger food. I’m not a fan of the print but I can see how this would be useful.
Orange House Liquid Laundry Detergent – sample, Value $1?
This detergent is a new find for me. I just used it on some toddler laundry and it works great to remove odors and worked well for stains (with a pre-treatment). It works well.
Orange House Dish Soap – sample, Value $1?
This is great dish soap! Not only does it do a good job of cutting through grease and cleaning dishes, but it’s also gentle enough to be used as a fruit and vegetable wash/rinse. It’s USDA certified biobased, biodegradable, and non-toxic. Love it!
Bella B No-Rinse Baby Wash – 8 oz, Value $8.99
This is a no-rinse wash that mixes with the oil on skin to gently rinse away dirt. It has chamomile, vitamins A & E, and aloe vera to also moisturize. It also has no parabens and is hypoallergenic. To use this, you just use a cotton ball and pat/wipe your child’s skin to “freshen.”
At first, this seemed like an odd product to me… almost like a dry shampoo for baby skin, if you know what I mean? Something that sorta cleanses that just puts off bathing your kid. But then I started thinking about using this differently – like to get dirt off legs after going on a summer walk, or spaghetti face, or sandbox hands. Now I kind of think of it as an “all-purpose baby cleaner,” haha. Something to have on hand to help when you’re already wiping your kids off from having something on them. It may also be good for small clean-ups during the newborn phase or before their cord falls off.
Like I said, I wouldn’t use this in place of a bath, but it might be handy for smaller clean-ups. Especially for my son, who screams the second he goes into the bath to the second you finish re-dressing him... And it may even be handy for second and third babies when you just may not be able to fit in a whole bath and lotion as right when you’d like to with other kids and toddlers running around!
Kala Coconut Oil – 6.8 oz, Value $20
Okay, this does seem like an odd product to me, too. It’s literally coconut oil in a tube. I see where they’re looking for a more convenient or glamorous way to incorporate coconut oil into your hair, skin, and beauty routines, but it’s solid at room temperature so this tube is just hard. They say to massage and roll the tube a little before use but when coconut oil melts it’s not creamy, it’s really fluid and runny, which means you have to be careful with squeezing too much out if it is melted. This all, to me, just takes the convenience factor out of the tube idea? I’d rather just open a big jar and scoop some out. Cheaper that way, too. I don’t know, maybe that’s just me. What do you think?
As far as quality goes, this sounds like really nice coconut oil. It’s raw, organic, unrefined, cold-pressed, non-GMO, fair trade, and kosher.
American Provenance Cardamom Lip Balm – Value $3
This lip balm is made from mango butter, shea butter, almond oil, beeswax, and essential oils. This balm feels so smooth and nice on my lips and definitely does a good job moisturizing! I love that it has wholesome ingredients, too, especially with something I put on my lips.
DermaE Microdermabrasion Scrub - 0.5 oz, Value $8.13
This is my favorite facial scrub ever; I actually just bought the full size a couple months ago! DermaE has 100% vegan, cruelty-free formulas without parabens, sulfates, mineral oil, petrolatum, gluten, soy, GMOS, or artificial colors. The exfoliants in this are a crystal blend of Dead Sea Salt and volcanic sand. It has natural astringents of lime and lemon peel plus grapeseed oil and vitamin E as anti-oxidants and healing agents.
This scrub feels so good on my skin and also smells incredible. It leaves my face feeling smooth and soft and I’ve noticed a difference in my skin since using this a couple times a week (I keep my tub of this in my shower). I also like to leave it on for a couple minutes to let the ingredients and crystal blend react chemically with my skin… the lime, lemon, sea salt, and volcanic sand are all good for impurities and work great for my mild acne. This is also supposed to help reduce the look from minor scarring (like from acne) with long-term use.
One thing I just learned on their website and didn’t know before is that this product is “a large molecular structure and is therefore not bio-available to the body, so there’s no possibility of absorption through the skin.” I love the science side of skincare, so I found that interesting. Sorry that this blurb is so wordy, but I just love this product.
Verdict: The December Ecocentric Mom box was a little bit of a mixed bag for me. I found some products I’m really happy to have and try, get some more of one of my holy-grail skincare products, but was also underwhelmed with some of the other products, namely the coconut oil and the snack bag. As far as value goes, this box all adds up to $55.89, which I’m happy with for a $24.99 box.
