Doki-Doki-January-2017-Booklet-Inside

Each month comes with a booklet filled with artwork and literature. January's theme is New Year's Resolutions.

Doki-Doki-January-2017-Hoppe-Chan

Mt. Fuji Hoppe Chan - Value $3?

This month's Hoppe-Chan wears a Mt. Fuji and a mini Hoppe-Chan atop her head. The red Hoppe-Chan is supposed to represent the red sun going over the horizon.

Doki-Doki-January-2017-Headband

Nekomimi Headband - Value $7?

This is a cat ear headband made of super soft fleece. It can be worn for fun or for function. I will use this for face masking!

Doki-Doki-January-2017-Headband-Closeup

The band itself is thick and stretchy, which allows for a very comfortable fit. Unlike some other headbands, this one doesn't give me a headache if worn for a long time.

Doki-Doki-January-2017-Cookie-Pen

Doki-Doki-January-2017-Cookie-Pen-Opened

Doki-Doki-January-2017-Cookie-Pen-Closeup

Biscuit Pen - Value $2?

This is a chubby pen in the shape of a sandwich cookie. The ballpoint tip writes decently well, but I have a hard time getting a comfortable grip. It's adorable as a novelty pen, but it's not the most practical of writing utensils.

Doki-Doki-January-2017-Panda-Hand-Rest

Relax Panda Hand Rest - Value $5?

This is a foam panda that acts as a hand or wrist rest. The panda looks so adorably silly!

Doki-Doki-January-2017-Panda-Hand-Rest-Demonstration

I don't have computer-related wrist pain yet, but I know plenty of people who would appreciate a wrist support. I love that this is both a unique and practical item!

Doki-Doki-January-2017-Macaron-Case

Doki-Doki-January-2017-Macaron-Case-Closeup

Macaron Case - Value $5?

This is plastic macaron that pops open into a storage case. It is slightly bigger than the size of my palm. I like that it is big enough to store bracelets and necklaces but also compact enough to fit in drawers or on vanity tables.

Doki-Doki-January-2017-Julie-Plush

Doki-Doki-January-2017-Julie-Plush-Closeup

Julie: Shogatsu Edition - Value $8?

Julie is a cat from Doki Doki's toy line. This month she is dressed as a Daruma, a traditional Japanese wish-granting doll, to celebrate the new year. The plush is very soft, as are most Doki Doki plushes. She stands up on her own as well.

Doki-Doki-January-2017-Booklet-Insert

Doki Doki mentioned that this month the Higemanju Gamaguchi Coin Purse was held back by an in-depth U.S. Customs inspection. Because it was missing from the box, three candies were included as a replacement and an apology.

Doki-Doki-January-2017-Fortune-Candy

Fortune Candy

These are candy-coated strawberry chocolate candies. Each chocolate represents an area of your life, such as "health" or "future" or "friends," and symbols written on the inner side of the foil for each candy tell you your fortune in the new year. Everything was written in Japanese so I had a hard time distinguishing the words. However, I did have fun participating in a bit of Japanese new year activities.

Doki-Doki-January-2017-Yogurt-Candies

Doki-Doki-January-2017-Yogurt-Candies-Closeup

Yogurt Candy

These are strawberry-flavored hard candies that contain probiotic yogurt to aid digestion. I totally like them for the flavor but it's great knowing they keep my stomach healthy too.

Doki-Doki-January-2017-Genji-Pie-Cookies

Genji Pie Cookies

These are palmiers, or elephant ear cookies, that taste delicious on their own or with hot tea or cocoa. They are covered in sugar crystals, which brings out the perfect amount of sweetness for me.

Verdict: I really like the variety of items this month. The headband is adorable, and the hand/wrist rest is such a unique and thoughtful item! My estimated total value is $30, and this is not counting the candies or the missing coin purse. Another way to look at it is like paying $5 per item (not including candy). Value wise it's a low month for me-- I can see myself paying $5 for maybe three or four items but not all six. I think the coin purse would definitely have increased the value, and I'm hoping that Doki Doki includes it in a future box. That said, I do appreciate that they included the snacks as a replacement.

I just got mine today (Jan 27) and there was a dollar store Christmas stocking, soup of some kind, some meat food thing, a pack of green cookies, some sort of water eye mask, tape, and a hair scrunchie. No booklet to explain anything. I am not happy at all. This worjs out to well over $50 CDN and there is maybe $10 worth of items. Nothing kawaii about it and it was for my 6 year old girl who was so excited. Not so thrilled with soup. :/

I just heard back from Doki Doki and this was a bonus box sent out from Christmas at no charge! Yay! My regular subscription box still hasn’t arrived. So relieved and happy! 🙂

The description you have for this box is: 8-10 licensed, authentic kawaii items plus a licensed/exclusive shirt

Is that accurate? I would be very disappointed if I was expecting to receive that and I received this box instead. This does not seem to be $35 worth of stuff.

January was horrible. And I actually did find all of the items in the box online for under $2. Except the monthly charm. I think they have a false advertisement because none of the items above are licensed. But I am looking forward to see what they have for Feb.

Thanks for pointing that out. No, that is an outdated description. It should be 5-7 items including a monthly wearable. I will let the team know to update it.

I think this is the worst box. Only Mt. Fuji Hoppe Chan is Japanese product. All the other items in the box have Japan Crate package. It’s easy to find similar things on ebay for $1-2 per items as they didn’t design their own products.

I think finding more products from Japan and having easier time getting them to us is why they are moving to Japan. I don’t have the time to search the web for kawaii products. That’s why I get Doki Doki, they search and find for me. Can’t wait to see what comes next month after the whole operation is in Japan!

I love Doki Doki and I am so excited for next month cause they moved to Tokyo and items right from Japan will be easier for them to get and still no shipping charge! The Kitty head band this month went great with the kitty gloves from last month!

Nancy Su

I didn’t even think about the kitty gloves! Thanks for pointing it out Christine.
