Vermont Homegrown Organic Catnip Mitten – Value $6?
It is kind of hard to find this brand’s toys online. I didn’t see this one, but I found a shop that sells some of the others, so I’ve assigned it a value based on similar items. Meowbox is doing quite well in recent months finding toys from smaller producers. If that is something you’re really interested in, this box could be a good fit.
Housecat Club Catnip Christmas Cookie – Value $6
Housecat Club toys show up fairly often in Meowbox. They are pretty cute, usually food-themed, and just the right size for my cats.
Le Sharma Trading Wool Candy Cane – Value $7.89?
These toys are made from wool; Le Sharma supports disadvantaged women and farmers which is cool (plus the toys are eco-friendly). We’ve received them in the past and they’ve been popular. This candy cane is exclusive to Meowbox so I have based the value on some of the smaller toys (strawberries) in their shop.
Sassycat Freeze Dried Turkey (1.25 oz) – Value $4.59
Sassycat is one of the more popular brands of freeze dried meat among my cats and this was a hit (see Sneaky munching it below). I hope someday to get Sassycat treats that Mr. Kitty can eat (they do make duck and I think also a rabbit and lamb one that he could have).
Holistic Select Feline Grain Free Turkey and Salmon Pate (3 oz) – Value $1.25
Madison is the turkey fan in this house so I will let him have this one day for a treat. (I have not opened it yet – the day I took photos for this box, the kitties had just eaten an entire 3-4 ounces of another food sample. Those are the hazards of getting multiple cat subscription boxes, I suppose.) I don’t think my cats have had this brand before and I like that it’s grain free.
Apollo Peak “White Kittendel” Cat Wine (1.8 fl oz) – Value $2.91
Meowbox has sent Apollo Peak cat “wine” before (it’s non-alcoholic and has catnip extract in it) and my cats thought it was great. Unfortunately, this leaked in the box a little, which meant it had a broken seal, and there was brown gunk growing in it, so I did not give it to my cats. (Monkey was sad about this. He licked the box where this had spilled and dried.)
Gratuitous cat photos ahead…
Madison inspects some toys from the box. I love the photo with his tooth in it!
Monkey got very excited and ran up on the armchair to get a sniff of this. It just totally doesn’t show in his face at all.
Sneaky bites things and guards toys!
Mr. Kitty had a good weekend. He showed interest in toys and he really wanted these treats (sadly, he can’t have them due to his IBD).
Verdict: I calculated a value of about $28.64 for the December Meowbox. Although slightly under the month-to-month cost of the subscription, that is one of the better values I can remember for Meowbox in recent months. The toys and treats were hits. I’m a little sad about the cat wine leakage issue, of course. Overall, though, this was a pretty good month. And you can increase the value by using our ADDICTION coupon or signing up for a multi-month subscription.
For what it’s worth, Meowbox sends smaller toys (their box is small) and a fair number of Etsy and/or exclusive items, so it might be worthwhile if that is the type of subscription you’re in the market for.
What did you think of the December 2016 Meowbox? Do you subscribe to any cat boxes?
