November’s theme is “New American.”

The booklet also provides recipes and cooking tips.

I received a card promoting the add-on items for this box, too.

hamptons-november-2016-rack

Prepara Silicone Roasting Rack - Value $14.99

I’ve been in the market for a roasting rack recently, so I’m really excited that there’s one in this month’s box!

hamptons-november-2016-rack-detail1

It’s silicone, bendable, heat safe up to 500 degrees, microwavable, and even dishwasher safe. (Hooray!)

hamptons-november-2016-rack-detail2

It’s about an inch tall, and it works like a charm. I used it underneath a chicken, and it did a great job of keeping the bird off the bottom of the roasting pan.

hamptons-november-2016-microplane

Microplane Classic Zester - Value $10.69

Microplane’s Classic Zester is a classic kitchen tool, and I think it’s something that no kitchen should be without.

It’s great for garnishing drinks with grated spices (like whole nutmeg), grating hard cheeses, and zesting citrus.

I already have a microplane (so this isn’t the most exciting item for me personally), but I’m happy to add a second one to my collection.

hamptons-november-2016-mustard

Dry Spice Tin Mustard - Value $8

This dry mustard blend “combines the traditional mustard powder with cracked yellow and brown mustard seeds and a unique spice blend of additional spices that includes turmeric and coriander and sea salt from California.” It can be used to season vegetables, chicken wings, stews, and as a rub for roasted chicken. I tried it on roasted chicken, and I thought it was great. (Read on to see how my chicken turned out!)

hamptons-november-2016-chutney

hamptons-november-2016-chutney-detail

Blake Hill Cranberry & Orange Chutney - Value $6.49

Cranberries, oranges, heirloom apples, raisins, cinnamon, and cloves are slowly simmered together to make this chutney. It’s tart, a little sweet, tangy, and really delicious. I served this on a cheese board with brie, and it was a crowd pleaser.

hamptons-november-2016-duck

Epic Duck Fat - Value $10.99

I’m a big fan of duck fat fries, so I decided to try using this on roasted potatoes. I tossed red potatoes with rosemary and fleur de sel and roasted them in the oven until brown and crispy. Wow. The duck fat added a marked richness and a great depth of flavor. What a treat!

Hamptons Lane always comes out with a collection of recipes to accompany each box, and it’s one of my favorite things about the subscription. The recipes are always well written and easy to follow, and they’re almost always excellent. Every month, I look forward to picking out at least one of them to try! This month, I decided to make Roasted Chicken with Tin Dry Mustard rub. (Full disclosure: Hamptons Lane recommended using  Cornish Hens for this recipe, but I used chicken instead.)

I placed the raw chicken in a roasting dish on top of the silicone rack and then rubbed it down with duck fat, dry mustard, salt, and pepper.

It roasted in the oven until the internal temperature was 165, and then I took it out to cool. First of all, how pretty is the mustard rub:

The chicken looked delicious, and it smelled great!

The rub was a little spicy and definitely had a mustardy taste, but the mustard flavor was fairly mild. The rub got a little crunchy during the cooking process, which added a nice texture. I really enjoyed this recipe, and I think I’ll definitely make it again soon. I may even go a bit heavier on the rub, so it turns out more like a crust!

Verdict: The combined retail value of the items in this box comes to $51.61, which comes in above the cost of the box. (The last couple of Hamptons Lane boxes have been pretty low in value, so I’m happy to see that this one is a bit higher.) I think this month’s theme is perfect for November, and (as always) I’m impressed with Hamptons Lane’s recipes.

I want the roasting rack and the microplane. They are $25 in total… The other contents on the box do not entice me.

I always love HL box reviews, but for me this box is like Mantry: the cost of the items is almost same cost of the box and the items are easy to get. Boxwalla on the other hand present with more unique itrms. I’m trying to include that one in next year budget.

I used to be a Hamptons Lane box subscriber but found the low value of the boxes in addition to having a few miss items in each box a deal breaker for me. I also found their customer service to be inflexible and so I’m out. I love seeing your reviews but have no fear of missing out.

Same here. I was very disappointed in the customer service – nice but not taking the extra step to do the right thing. Bummer because I really liked their boxes. But they didn’t seemed too concerned to lose a customer.

Looks like an awesome month for Hampton’s Lane. It’s one of my favorite boxes to read reviews for (would sub myself but since we’re a fish-free household, many months there is at least one item we can’t eat).

Love your nail polish!

If this box would have had an additional (inexpensive)
gadget, it would have been a winner for me. I ended my Hampton Lane subscription after the great wok fiasco and think I ended it at the right time. Used to love their boxes, but lately it’s been more miss than hit.
I am going to order one of those silicone roasters!

I have had one of those roasters for a few years now. They are incredible as they form to fit any size pan. We use the green laurel by the same company. We were looking for a rack to fit in our Le Cruset roaster and found the laurel.

I agree with your comment about the curation going downhill since the wok month. We have only picked up one box since.

I will look at the tools and if I like it purchase it myself as I don’t need any more jars of chutneys, jellies and sauces I’ll probably never use.

As for the zester… if you don’t have one get one! I use mine 3-4 times a week. Yesterday it was used for garlic and ginger and today for nutmeg.

I LOVE all your reviews on the different food subs & the Robb Vices sub Lindsey!! From the beautiful photos to the tips and tricks – You always make me want to buy each and every box and I’m not allowed as I live in Canada and they don’t ship them here, hahaha. Still love to sit down with a cup of coffee and read all your reviews. They’re always fantastic – thank you 🙂

That looks really yummy! And I would never have thought about a silicone roaster. That would take up way less room in the cabinet! Do you think it would work for a turkey or would you need to use two?

Elizabeth

We used the silicone roaster on our (13-lb) fresh turkey at Thanksgiving! It worked amazingly well! (We do a Martha Stewart maple one that is always a big hit, and this year, it was a lot easier to clean up!) This was definitely one of my favorite items in a box ever, and I’ve subbed a LOT over the past 4ish years. Also, the duck fat leaked all over my box and I emailed HL to just let the know (everything was cleanable, and our cat went ballistic over the food-scented box…she kept licking it!) and they sent a replacement right away. A+ service!
