Bulu Box is a monthly fitness and weight loss subscription. The original Bulu Box is focused more on fitness and general health supplements, and they also offer a Weight Loss box that focuses more on diet products.

They have done away with the traditional information card and instead included this card with some discounts and promos on it. You also get some product literature and/or coupons most months.

Pro-Fi Plus Sample Pack (2 packets, 14 grams each) – Value $10?

I think this is a one-day supply. I totally don’t support doing cleanses; there is no science behind them and the only weight you lose is water weight and glycogen from your muscles that will come right back when you come off the cleanse. That being said, this is a different type of “cleanse,” which basically consists of probiotics and fiber – things you should be getting every day anyway for general health. (Ignore the language on the product page about “toxins” – that’s what your liver and kidneys are for.) I think this product has good contents but makes use of a lot of gimmicky, non-scientific language. You can get 44 packets of Metamucil and a 30-day supply of a good probiotic supplement on Amazon for about $15 less than the cost of a 5-day supply of this product.

Frownies pH Balancing Complexion Wash (0.25 oz?) – Value $0.87?

This was good for two uses or so, used sparingly. I do appreciate that it was not in a foil packet. I think Bulu Box must have some kind of deal going on with Frownies because we got another Frownies product last month. Anyway, this was a decent enough face wash but I feel like I need to use a skincare product for a few weeks to learn anything other than that it doesn’t give me a rash! (This bottle didn’t have a size on it, so I’m estimating.)

Thayers Dry and Itchy Skin Relief with Apple Cider Vinegar (0.25 fl oz) – Value $0.25

We’ve recently had a warm, rainy few weeks in Georgia (minus a day or two), so my skin is not dry and itchy right now. However, I’m saving this for when it gets cold again because my skin does horribly in cold, dry weather.

Rebloom Natural Sleep Drink (2.5 fl oz) – Value $2.86

This has magnesium, valerian, chamomile, l-theanine, and melatonin. I definitely need to get better sleep although it is best to try such things for the first time on a night (like a weekend) when sleep is not critical. Because melatonin can cause vivid dreams in some people (I learned this the hard way). This is a new brand for me, though, and it’s supposed to be non-habit-forming, which is great.

Kai Meal Replacement Shake in Cookies and Cream (71 g) – Value $4.17

I don’t do meal replacement shakes (I don’t need to lose any more weight – after 45 pounds, I’m done!). But, I do like whey protein to add to smoothies as I feel it tastes better and blends better than other types of protein (it is not vegan, though, if that is of concern to you). This flavor went nicely with my other smoothie ingredients. (This has a LONG ingredients list so be sure and read it in case you have allergies. There is soy and there are some tree nuts.)

Verdict: I calculated a value of $18.15 for the December Bulu Box Weight Loss version.  That is considerably above what I paid for the box (I got it for $5 with our previous coupon. The current offer is $5.99 a box for life with code MYSUB599) and is especially nice considering the low value of last month’s box. Don’t forget that you can review the items in your box for points to be used towards merchandise in the Bulu Box shop, which can increase the value of the box a bit if you would regularly buy items from their shop anyway (they have Quest Bars and PB2).

For what it’s worth, I have no idea how most of these items relate to weight loss. If you are going to subscribe to Bulu Box, I’d recommend just picking the regular or weight loss version and not going for both, since there seems to be significant product overlap. I’d also strongly suggest using our MYSUB599 coupon code to bring down the cost of the box.

Call me jaded, but I am shocked that your honest review is actually… well… Honest! Thank you for that! There are way too many reviews online that are actually just advertisements. You’ve restored my faith.

Everytime I open a box, I wonder what Bulubox is thinking when they throw it together.
I only paid $5 per box for a year, but I still feel short changed on it.

I really appreciate your honest opinion on these products. I also think cleanses are a huge waste of money. A friend of mine spent roughly $600 on various “supplements” and drinks to do some sort of weight loss cleanse that she ultimately couldn’t do because she got pregnant. If you can’t take these sorts of things while pregnant, I wouldn’t think they’d be very safe to begin with.

Thanks. I see my coworkers falling for stuff like this all the time. I’m like, “which one of us has actually lost weight this year? (and while eating real food and without suffering through unpleasant and expensive drinks).”

There are some things that are not good for a developing fetus (or that simply aren’t tested in pregnant women) that are OK for adults but I don’t have a list. Since I don’t have kids (and don’t plan to), I often skip the pregnancy warnings on products.
