Wine Awesomeness is a monthly wine subscription that specializes in rare and unusual wines. They seek out “the coolest, craveworthiest wines” and send “vino you don't see everyday, but will want to drink everyday.”

Their curatorial team is led by a Food & Wine Sommelier of the Year!

Wine Awesomeness offers 3 different subscription options: all red, all white (with a chance of rosé or bubbly), or a mix (with a chance of rosé or bubbly). I signed up for the all white box.

Typically, Wine Awesomeness ships wine in their signature blue box, but this month’s shipment arrived in a standard brown box.

Wine Awesomeness always includes instructions for a fun, wine-related game or DIY activity, and this month they’ve provided instructions on how to turn your old wine bottles into an herb garden!

Boxes also often include small product samples. (This month’s box contained a sample of gluten-free crackers.)

Now, on to the wines!

2012 Carrier Broad Arrow Chardonnay - Value $18

This label looks familiar! A couple of months ago, Wine Awesomeness included a bottle of 2014 Carrier Beach Comber Albariño, and I was a big fan. Carrier’s Chardonnay is great, too. (That’s a pretty big compliment coming from me, since I rarely love Chardonnay!) Wine Awesomeness picks out flavors of “tart golden apple, lemon meringue, toasted brioche, marshmallow, and buttercream.” I definitely taste the tart apple flavor in this wine, and I love that it has a zippy acidity. It’s lip-smackingly good.

2016 Balance Chenin Blanc

This next bottle is a South African Chenin Blanc that ticks all the boxes. Adorable packaging? Check. Delicious wine? Check. This wine is definitely a winner! Wine Awesomeness describes the aroma as “white plumerias after a rain shower,” which perfectly describes the floral, clean smell of this wine. The taste is fruity, dry, and fresh. It’s refreshing and super tasty, and there’s something about this wine that seems beachy. I doubt I’ll be heading to the beach anytime soon, though, so I may take Wine Awesomeness’ advice to pair it with Shredded Brussels Sprouts with Pomegranate Seeds, Walnuts, and Manchego. That sounds like a delicious match!

2014 Tokaji Furmint Evolúció - Value $9.99

The last wine in this month’s box is a Hungarian Furmint, a dry white from the Tokaj-Hegyalja wine region. I think this is my first time trying Hungarian wine, and I’m really impressed! It’s crisp with a nice acidity, and the flavor is unlike anything I’ve ever had before. It’s rich with lots of fruity flavors and some floral ones, too. It’s delicious and interesting at the same time. I’m a fan!

Verdict: I really enjoyed this month’s Wine Awesomeness wines! They were all delicious, and I really don’t think I can pick a favorite bottle. They were all fantastic. I appreciate that Wine Awesomeness seeks out rare and unusual wines and that they include a good amount of information about them in the provided booklet. It’s also wonderful that they send out a recipe pairing for every bottle; that’s a big plus in my book. The per bottle cost breaks down to $15 per bottle. I wasn’t able to find pricing info for all of the wines in this month’s box, but I’m happy with the value of what I received. I think the curation was excellent, and the wines were great!
