The box came with this information card detailing the items in the box.

vegan-cuts-snack-november-2016-apples

Sensible Foods Crunch Dried Fuji Apple (0.32 oz) – Value $0.80

These were low in calories and had the texture you’d expect from freeze dried apples. I like them. (I’ll be honest, though, I can’t tell the difference between one brand of freeze dried apples and the next.)

Life’s Nuts Sprouted Pizzalmonds (1.4 oz) – Value $3.99

I’ve had these before thanks to Rawbox (I think). It is weird, but they really do taste a lot like pizza. I have been trying to eat more fats lately and nuts are a big part of that, so these were appreciated.

Herbal Zap Digestive Cool and Calm (0.14 oz, 1 packet) – Value $0.81

I’m going to be honest, I don’t really believe in using herbal remedies.  I don’t know if it’s because I had that attitude going in, but I kind of don’t think this made a huge difference. But, to each his or her own.

vegan-cuts-snack-november-2016-bar

Orgain Organic Plant Based Protein Bar in Peanut Butter Flavor (1.41 oz) – Value $2.99

I eat a lot of protein bars. This one is somewhere in the middle of the road for me.  It has pretty good nutritional value and I like that there is a lot of fiber in it. The flavor is decent.  The texture is not my favorite, though. It’s a little too dry.

vegan-cuts-snack-november-2016-chocolate

Kutoa Chocolate Espresso Bean Bar (1.7 oz) – Value $2.08

I hate coffee (gasp). I gave this to my husband since he is a coffee drinker. He says he liked it but that I would not have enjoyed it.  These are pretty high in sugar since the first ingredient is date paste and there are several sweeteners as well.

Taza Chocolate Sea Salt and Almond (80% Dark, 2.5 oz) – Value $5

Now this, I loved. Probably my favorite thing in the whole box. Taza chocolate is stone ground and that gives it a somewhat gritty texture, but I happen to think the gritty texture is awesome.

Pacific Organic Oat Non-Dairy Beverage (8 fl oz) – Value $0.85

We’ve received this from Vegan Cuts before. But that is OK. I make smoothies in the morning with almond milk but sometimes I don’t plan very well and run out before the week is over and I can get to the grocery store, so this is currently my emergency backup.

Namaste Foods Gluten Free Broccoli & Cheddar Flavored Non-Dairy Soup (1.4 oz) – Value $3.19

I tried this. I really did. But I had to give up partway through. It had a super weird smell so even though it didn’t taste bad (it didn’t taste at all like cheese), I just had a hard time getting past the smell. Also, the broccoli was mostly just the teeny little bits from the ends of the florets (the green parts that are about the size of sesame seeds) and the fill line was high so this ended up being quite watery.

The Neat Egg Natural Vegan Egg Substitute (4.5 oz) – Value $6.69

This is an egg substitute made from chickpea flour and chia that is meant to be used as a binder in baked goods and the like. (You can’t use this in place of scrambled eggs.) We tried it in some cranberry pecan bread last weekend and it worked pretty well and didn’t affect the flavor in a negative way. If you are a vegan and you like to bake, this is worth trying.

vegan-cuts-snack-november-2016-tea

Manitoba Harvest Hemp Pro 70 Chocolate Protein Powder (15 g) – Value $0.65

This went into one of my morning smoothies. It is nice to get something from this brand other than Hemp Hearts. (Not that I don’t like those, but they offer so many more products!)

Teapigs Liquorice and Peppermint (1 bag) – Value $1.25

I first tried this product from Birchbox. It is pretty spendy for tea, I have to say (unless you buy it in bulk, which takes the price down quite a lot). I am not so much of a fan of licorice in tea – while it is supposed to add sweetness, it has a strong flavor that I don’t care all that much for. I think it is an acquired taste. That being said, they have a lot of other interesting flavors on their website.

Carrington Farms Ready-to-Eat Organic Flax/Chia Paks (0.4 oz) – Value $0.67

I probably sound like a broken record but this is another item that went into a smoothie. I do typically add flax, chia, or hemp to get some healthful plant fats. (I buy ground flax by the pound, currently, but these are good for when you are on the go. Flax and chia also work well in oatmeal.)

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $29 for this month’s Vegan Cuts Snack Box. That is an excellent value for this box (food boxes are normally pretty low) and also a big improvement over last monthAlthough I did not love every single item, I appreciate getting lots of new things to try and of course being able to eat everything in the box without reading ingredients labels (I’m not vegan, but I am vegetarian). And the Taza chocolate was awesome.

What do you think of the November 2016 Vegan Cuts Snack Box?
