Scent Trunk is a fragrance subscription box with a twist! They gather your opinion on the scents that they send out, and then will send you a new (or the same one you love!) perfume each month that fits your profile.

Scent Trunk has changed their subscription a bit - they now send new subscribers a free at-home Fit Kit where you experience a full palette of scents and you give your feedback. Based on your feedback, they'll choose a fragrance to send the next month. In the future, they intend to have text reviews in place, but for now, you will email the company your preferences.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

This review is of the Fit Kit, which first month is free + $4.95 shipping as a new subscriber.

Here are the 6 scents that were sent to me. Scent Trunk included a short description of each scent. I tried each of them on my skin, which is the only way to determine if a scent will work for me after the initial notes fade. You provide Scent Trunk feedback by rating each scent with Love, Like or Nope.

All of the scents came in teeny little roller balls! This made for a really nice experience instead of a frustrating one with trying to get lids off of perfume samples and not spilling everywhere! The packaging on this Fit Kit is first class.

Scent Number One

Scent Number One is described as "The freshest scents, the lightest zingy revivers. This will liven you up, refresh you, and give you a burst of sun-ripened, juicy awesomeness."

I liked this scent but I didn't fall in love with it. It was very fresh, though, which made it very wearable. I would probably use this perfume, but it wouldn't be my daily go-to!

Scent Number Two

Scent Number Two is described as "Ah, the great outdoors. An axe splitting logs for your late-night fire. Even the evocative smell of sharpening a Virginian cedar wood pencil."

I really disliked this scent. It smells very woodsy, which (for me) would be nice in a light-smelling candle but not on my skin all day.

Scent Number Three

Scent Number Three is described as "The herbal scent of hot days and warm, fragrant nights. Leaves fill the air with their aroma. You touch one, and then keep walking on."

I loved this scent. If I were a better perfume tester, I would probably be able to tell you exactly what is in it but I don't know! I do smell a bit of cinnamon and a teeny bit of something light and powdery. I just know it smells awesome!

Scent Number Four

Scent Number Four is described as "A fragrant stroll through a wonderful garden, where the air is perfumed with a mass of aromas blended to perfection."

I liked this scent. It's very fresh and green (if that makes any sense at all). I would probably wear this in the spring and summer time.

Scent Number Five

Scent Number Five is described as "The influence of the East. A deep, sensual resin creates a rich, seductive aroma - slightly sweet, spicy, and warm. It beckons."

I liked this scent. Something in it smells a bit like my go-to perfume (Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel) but there are enough different notes that it isn't an exact match. I don't know if I could wear this one regularly since something gave me a bit of a headache when I wore it but it would be a nice evening scent.

Scent Number Six

Scent Number Six is described as "The mysteries of the forest, bottled. Ancient lands. Nature's majestic beauty. Dark woods, soft moss, and patches of fruit and wildflowers."

I really disliked this scent on my skin but in the bottle, it smells ok. Weird how that works, right?

I also received an additional card that provides suggestions on how to reuse your Fit Kit.

Verdict: For value, you really can't beat free, especially when it is packaged so beautifully. The price of the new subscription ($11.99) is pretty good too, in my opinion, for a 5 ml bottle of artisan perfume that you can't usually find sold in stores. I also love that they customize the box to your preferences from the Fit Kit and that you can stick with the same scent each month, or switch it up.

As far as the Fit Kit goes, I enjoyed my scent testing and am happy that I found one perfume I love, and three that I liked. I only disliked two, which is pretty good for me! The only bummer is that you don't know what scents they are, so if you absolutely love one, you can't easily purchase it. Hopefully, they let you know what scent is being shipped to you with the monthly subscription, so we'll see!

Bekki first discovered subscription boxes in 2014 and they quickly took over her life! (Not quite, but pretty close.) She started with POPSUGAR Must Have, then moved to Little Lace Box, Birchbox, Hamptons Lane...the rest was history. Her favorite product find is Beekman 1802 Fudge (so, so good) and her favorite boxes are Birchbox and Hamptons Lane...but she's always looking for a new subscription to try!

I’m glad I didn’t read this before ordering, as I probably would not have ordered the scent kit. I ordered mine, and it did take a little longer to get than I thought it would, but not too bad.

I don’t think I put as much thought into the scent sniffing process as some others may have; I just put the scents on different parts of my body, and then placed them in order from ‘love it’ to ‘eww, gross’.

I did have some issues at first. While waiting for the scent I had “created”, I noticed that I had been charged, and was about 2 weeks away from another charge… but had nothing to be charged for yet!

I contacted Scent Trunk, and they apologized for this. They said they had just moved and made a bunch of changes, but that they would refund the first charge and waive the second charge. Ok, I’m good now, but still waiting.

Well, it finally showed up today, and I have to say that they nailed it! As soon as I sprayed it, I immediately loved it, and there was something about it that took me back (not sure where, but it did!).

I absolutely LOVE my scent! However, I was wondering why I would need to get a new one every month or every 2 weeks, but I figured that out quickly when I saw the size of the container. I do wish it was a little bigger, but I also really like the portability factor.

Overall, for the price, I’m happy. If the price were to go up, I may have to reconsider, but I guess I’ll know better once I see how long this lasts me. I also wish that there was an option to buy a larger size.

I really wanted to sign up, but it does not seem like they have their act together just yet. I the site is not informative, and they charge you right away. So, the trial is not free. Also, the website does not inform you about the size of the perfume that you will receive once you are subscribed. It sounds interesting, but I will wait until they get their act together.

Liz,
Have you heard anything from this box offer?

P.S. You’ve got a great thing going on here. It’s a real help for us!!!
Keep up the great work, please.

Has anyone received their box yet?

yes, but honestly i did not have a great experience with scent trunk. the fragrances were really unappealing and i’m not that picky, but they were so bad, but the customer service is amazing, and they kept on sending me free fragrances until i found one i liked, but i really recommend scent bird because you know what you’re getting and you can try new fragrances that are tested and well made. this just isn’t a good subscription box but the customer service and everyone i worked with is great but the products just aren’t

I signed up for the Scent Trunk trial but never received any kind of confirmation email. And when I try to go to their website, the only one that works is the one to sign up for the free trial. There is no way for me to sign in to check that my order went through. Anyone else experiencing this?

I did this too and I don’t know what I did but I received an email today saying that yes I did sign up but right now they don’t have any way for us to check our accounts. Sorry I don’t remember what I did. I’ll go back and see if I can figure it out and get back to you.

Great review, thanks. I love that you provided such detail for the process. Such a great change for them. I unsubscribed from this box because I didn’t feel it was worth it to get 3 perfumes that didn’t work for me every month. They only asked for 1 favorite scent and then sent something with every scent I just couldn’t tolerate in a perfume. This should make the choices sent each month closer to something I’d actually wear. I have found another perfume sub, but this will definitely make me reconsider once it’s up. Bravo Scent Trunk! It seems that they do listen to suggestions and want to satisfy customers 🙂

Interesting way to sample. I think I will wait until next month to see what you get before I actually join.

I think I may give this new format a chance. I just wasn’t sold on 3 tiny samples for $15 or $18, but a 5 ml sample for $12 may be a good deal if it helps me discover scents I love.
