If you aren’t familiar with Golden Tote, here’s a really quick intro: Every month you get to pick out 1-2 pieces, and they surprise you with the rest. (The surprise items are completely different from the pieces you pick from). For the $149 tote, you pick 2 items and get 3-4 more surprise items based on your style profile.

FYI – This is not a typical subscription, each month they release a new collection and you can decide whether or not you want to buy it.

Every month they design a new tote, too! This wolf design is so pretty.

Bajee V-Neck Sweater, Olive – Value $40

(45% Acrylic, 55% cotton; hand wash cold, hang dry)

I love this sweater! It’s a really nice basic and is just my style. It’s warm and fits well, too.

Le Lis Colorblock Top – Value $40

(61.1% polyester, 32.9% rayon, 6% spandex; hand wash cold, lay flat to dry)

I wasn’t sure how I felt about the color blocking when I pulled this out of my tote, but once I had it on, I realized that I love it! It’s not something I’d normally pick out for myself but the silhouette is comfortable and flattering. The color blocking doesn’t go all the way around, though – it’s just the light pink on top and the gray on the bottom.

Favorite Fringe Cardigan in Navy – Value $80

(65% acrylic, 24% viscose, 10% spandex; hand wash cold, lay flat to dry)

This is one of my chosen items this month, and I’m obsessed. The colors are gorgeous and perfect for Fall/Winter, and it’s crazy comfortable.

Here it is open! I love the way it drapes. I’ve worn this so many times since getting my tote this month!

Esley Long Sleeve Floral Print Midi Dress – Value $40

(self: 100% polyester, lining: 100% rayon; hand wash cold, hang dry)

So, I really dislike this dress, but I can see where my stylist chose it for the floral pattern/midi length, both of which I emphasize in my style profile. This fits well, but the empire waist and the color/pattern are much more boho than my taste, which is generally classic/feminine.

I emailed customer service about it and they sent me a new surprise item right away, and I’ll just send this back when I get it. When this has happened to me before, I’ve always liked the replacements and have always been really happy with the customer service from their team.

Embracing Basic Skirt in Black – Value $40

(94% Rayon, 6% Spandex; hand wash cold, dry clean recommended)

This was my other chosen item this month. I am loving this skirt! I love the length and it’s really comfortable. It’s definitely versatile, too. I can pair it with tights and booties, or heels to dress it up, or flats, too. I nice black skirt is a staple I don’t have in my wardrobe yet so I had to snag this one.

Verdict: I loved this Golden Tote, aside from the one miss dress (which has a replacement on the way anyway). I’ve already worn everything else at least once! For value, I got $240 worth of boutique clothing items for $149, which I’m happy with! I’m especially happy this month because of my great customer service experience.

What do you think about Golden Tote? What items did you pick this month?

  1. Love the clothes you got this month although I can see that the dress is a print not everyone is going to like. Too things like the cardigan don’t get made in plus sizes.

  2. I’m sorry but your face in the floral dress picture is priceless. You tried.

  3. Love love love the color block top on you!! Beautiful! But then, you look good in everything you wear 🙂

  4. Love that fringe cardigan! I hated the surprise items they sent me and one had a large tear in the seam. Had to take pictures AND send back before they replaced it. The replacement was a swimsuit cover up. Do not wear swimsuits so that was a fail:( This was a few months ago so I do hope policy has changed.

  5. I wore that fringe cardigan yesterday and I am in love! I wish I would have also gotten the other color they had too.

  6. How long does it usually take for customer service to respond? I’ve emailed twice, written on their FB wall, and forwarded my issue to Sarah B when she suggested I do so, and haven’t gotten a response in nine days.

I usually love GT, but their sizing was really off this month.

  7. That color block top is stunning on you. I’m really tempted to sub right now, but I’m so over my clothing budget.

  8. I got the fringe cardigan in charcoal and I wear it almost everyday. I get so many compliments about it.

  9. Fail -Haley, not Heather! I am so sorry!

  10. Heather- I am actually in love with the floral dress! I tried to find it on their site but couldn’t 🙁

Also how tall are you/what size did you order? I am tall myself so I am interested in how the fit is.

    • Marta, I’m 5’11” and I call myself a “largium.” I’m a medium but my chest/hips usually bump me up to a large. If something runs large or is designed to be a looser fit I go medium.

Also, you won’t find the floral dress on their site because it’s a surprise item. Every month they release a little collection and you can pick 1 or 2 items from those as your chosens in your totes, and all of those items are in their boutique so you can purchase them separately or add them onto your tote order. The surprise items (sent in tote orders only) are from their “secret inventory” that they pull from according to your style profile. Those surprise items aren’t listed in their boutique for purchase but you can request them in your style profile notes and hope they have them on hand in your size. Hope that helps!

      • Ah ! That makes sense about the dress because I couldn’t find it for the life of me, thank you!

And I thought so! I am glad to hear you rocking being tall as well! Good to know that you can get away with mediums even, makes me more inclined to try goldentote out…. Sometimes large sizes will just not work for me b/c of the length. 🙁

  11. I had no idea Golden Tote would exchange the surprise items.

    • Heather, I think it’s pretty new!

      • That’s good to know. I stopped ordering totes because I’ve completely hated the surprise items that they sent me. Maybe I’ll give them another shot.

        • Mandy, three or four months ago I got a mass email from their stylist team saying to let them know how I liked my items and if I had any issues. Well I mentioned one of my chosens didn’t fit well or something and they replaced it with a different one I asked for. They’ve been good about that, but I know they definitely used to be less flexible with that. They’re also much more flexible with their returns too.
